Yep, but you broached the topic of U.S. pairs. And overlap does happen, because it's inevitable when discussing skaters and their results. Plus, nothing exists in a vacuum.

Regarding your over-generalized comments about U.S. pairs, I don't know what 'facts' you are speaking of. Most of what we are discussing is based on our individual perceptions and opinions of skaters and happenings in the skating world. I know of no survey or authoritative study regarding partner splits specifically being endemic to only one country. U.S. athletes often get targeted and blamed for everything under the sun, just because.

I tend to look at facts when I make such comments. Kirsten and Michael are a result of a split... but they have been together since Sochi... that's close to 8 years....a sign of longevity and dedication to each other and their team.... and when looking at recent 4 continents events, where they medal and were playing in the same field as the Chinese in terms of points, it's not hard to understand why I still believe they are ahead than any of the American pairs...

In my opinion, KMT/MM coming so close to Sui/Han at 4CCs is partly due to S/H's lack of competition that season and issues with overall fitness; KMT/MM's increased status once Duhamel/Radford retired; SC political clout and perceived pairs legacy; a traditionally reduced international field at 4CCs; KMT/MM's good performance and competitive value backed by excellent choreographer and coaching team, despite not having the highest quality of element weapons; and quite a bit of luck coming their way in getting to attend Worlds as alternates at a fortunate time for them to gain experience and exposure in front of the judges, leading to the building up of some political rep.

FYI: there are U.S. teams still together who paired around the same time as KMT/MM. Splitting with other partners and eventually coming together with a different partner and staying dedicated to that partner with longevity is not exclusive to KMT/MM nor to any particular country's athletes. As I already pointed out in an earlier post, I'm not certain why you would go down the road of claiming one country and only one country has frequent pairs splits more than another. There's nothing 'factual' about such a claim.

So true - what ever Maddie does now is a bonus. She made the top 10 in the short program at her 1st worlds. This is not something that a lot of CAN ladies have done. But with a couple top names behind her she is bound to drop a few places.

too bad for maddie but at the same time, first senior worlds... pretty much her first senior competition other than a challenger... i think she can hold her head up and be very proud. She managed an amazing SP. Her total score is improved as well. The entire skating planet has noticed her, and it looks good for the future.

Maddie did fine. Not her best free skate, obviously, but considering she had no real international experience prior to this Worlds, what she already demonstrated here was very promising.

The chance of keeping the second spot was really slim coming in, Maddie did really well in the short and still good in the free, but she doesn't have the tech content of many of the other skaters vying for top 10 spots so it was still going to be difficult to keep that spot even if she was clean. Regardless, she did very well and has improved tons since last season so I'm excited to see how she continues to improve. She definitely has a very very good shot for the ladies spot for the Olympics as well!

no idea but 6th in pairs, 13th in ladies, potentially good results in men and dance... if Canada doesn't qualify, I wonder who else but the USA, RUssia and Japan....

Skate Canada did Madeline no favors sending her to Worlds with a skater who probably wasn't going to make the free skate. She shouldn't have had to finish in the top 10 to keep 2 spots if Skate Canada sent someone who could have at least made the FS. How bad was Daleman looking that they decided not to send her? You would figure a semi clean Daleman could still make the FS then perhaps Madeline wouldn't have felt like she had all of the pressure on her shoulders and she could have skated more relaxed.

Daleman has not had a decent short program in two years.

Honestly. I don’t think anyone expected either lady to qualify for the free and if they did certainly not 9th.

I also don’t think they should have sent Emily especially since Alison has proven herself to be reliable under pressure at the past two world juniors.
It’s even more frustrating as I think they wanted to make sure the person who went had a 3-3, which in the end wasn’t needed to make the FS

I was secretly thinking that exact same thing but did not want to say it out loud for two reasons. 1) emily, though i am not a fan, is young and deserves to get experience as well. 2) i did not want to rub it in for gabby and her fans , including myself. Hehe. I feel alison may also have done better. Emily is just not there in terms of basic skating skills.

To end this with a positive : joannie finished 17th at her first worlds. Maddie has a bright future. I am sure.
