the judges had no choice... their score was entirely deserved ... and this is the best feeling in sport : when you earn something instead of having it given to you. they earned it and deserved it so much. THANK YOU Piper and Paul. PS Carol Lane : you rock!

With this, the streak of Canadian dance champions being World medalists that started with Bourne/Kraatz in 1993 (well, 1996 for the World medal) is continued for at least a while -- excepting Vanessa Crone, but Crone/Poirier weren't really the Canadian #1, that was just that Tessa & Scott couldn't go to nationals in 2011.

I was down on the Canada team after Osmond and Chan retired, but it looks like we may actually finally have a strong team again...and we didn't actually have to wait that long, if only Messing was younger...oh well...at least we may have found a new girl that could possibly contend in the future earlier than expected...

In a word, BREATHTAKING! Piper & Paul finally rewarded for their brilliance on the ice, and for creating a moment! They won the small silver in the Free folks, and were so close to a gold medal performance. This should make 2022, that much more interesting. Paul mentioned in the press conference, that they already have programs picked out. Talk about pre OG's focused. The world of ice dance is unfolding as it should.

Congratulations to you Canadians! Really building up again since 2018 OG. A young woman with prospects if not top 10 yet, 2 good pairs who both delivered (and the 6th place for MT/M was excellently done), Keegan, Keegan, Keegan (I was so impressed by him this afternoon) and I love Keegan's friendship with Nam, his devotion to his wife as well as to his soon to be child, and Piper/Paul (also three times) for having a great, great moment and medalling into the bargain. Should have been second, but a bronze is not to be sneered at. And the other ID couples had a satisfactory result too. Yay!

A great day for team canada!! Keegan proved every doubter wrong, and probably put out the best skates of his career today??? My highlight of the men's event! I also couldn't get over the freaking size of the flag he was waving for Piper & Paul in the FD - it was ginormous, are you telling me he packed that in his suitcase???

And Piper & Paul - no words, only tears (of joy). Beautiful!! And finally, finally, rewarded for their brilliance! It was great to hear Mark Hanretty wax lyrical over them in both the RD but especially the FD. They really created a moment, and I actually think they should have sneaked ahead and get the silver. Also great to see some of the dominance of IAM disrupted (not that I don't like them, I love many of their skaters, but I just like to see diversity across the different schools). Well done Carol Lane!

Thirdly, Lajoie/Lagha's FD costumes are stunning and genuinely up there are some of my favourites!

Looking ahead to the Grand Prix (assuming we have anything like a regular Grand Prix, which admittedly is still a slight question mark), our top man, pair and dance team all made the seeding this year, which is an improvement on the last Worlds results. It's especially useful in pairs, since the top Russian and Chinese pairs are all also seeded, so only one of them will be at either of KMT & Michael's events.

There's a real wildcard in the ice dance in that Papadakis & Cizeron are unseeded, and I would guess will be at France and NHK (home event and the event where the organizers don't have a dog in the fight and just want the starriest cast of characters), making both of those assignments less attractive than they otherwise might be (particularly for the second-tier of seeding, where instead of a silver medal you're possibly looking at a bronze). Both Piper & Paul and Hubbell & Donohue may get one of those assignments apiece, along with their home events.

Just occurred to me, are we talking about an Olympic year where Gilles/Pourier are REAL MEDAL CONTENDERS and not just faraway hopes that will inevitably come 5th or 6th again ... I mean with Papadakis/Cizeron back next season, it's going to be hard, but at the same time....it seems they are an upward trajectory...and they never skated better...no better time than now...

It's good that Piper and Paul don't have to face off S/K until the GPF - I think it's been quite unfortunate that they've had to do that at 3 of their last 4 GPs

I'm incredibly proud of the entire Canadian team from worlds. Maddie Schizas exceeded my expectations by placing an astonishing 9th in the SP and 13th overall. I was just hoping for a lady to make the FS. Now she's on the judges' radar too. So impressed. I was pulling for Roman to get the men's spot to worlds, but Keegan Messing did a stellar job here, easily earning back two spots for the men. Moore-Towers/Marinaro came back fighting to finish 6th. And, of course, my delight knows no bounds over Piper and Paul finally getting the recognition they deserve in the form of a world medal. I thought they should have been second overall, but I'll take it. This really does put them legitimately in the conversation for an Olympic medal next season. It at least somewhat lightens my cynacism with the way Sinitsina/Katsalapov vaulted into gold medal contention from middling at best. Not like those of us who've watched this sport for a while didn't see that political manoeuvring coming a mile off.... But back to the Canadians. Piper and Paul were absolute magic. I couldn't help but be a little sad for them that they didn't get to have that skate in front of a home crowd in Montreal instead of a mostly empty arena in Stockholm, but I can't wait to see what they come up with for next season. In spite of the incredible adversity of the pandemic the Canadian skaters really came through in the clutch.

Kinda amazing considering they have been around forever, so ... people assumed that it would never happen including most Canadians, I'm not sure if they really got THAT MUCH BETTER or did the judges finally "wake up"...probably a little bit of both...

they did get better cleaner, smoother... and they also managed to remain ingenious in a way that is appealing to the judges who now say " wow... this is unique" instead of "wow... this is quirky!"
