2020-21 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

My point is that almost every female skater in the world struggles with puberty. I find it ridiculous that some pretend that it’s not the case for everyone and only Tutberidze skaters happen to experience troubles when going through that period.

Let’s say, everyone’s different. Some manage to do relatively okay with it (esp. if they don’t grow as much), some do not, some manage to not only overcome it, but actually improve on top of it. One might struggle more, one will struggle less. I think with this, people should manage their expectations with regards to these girls’ performances.
I swear to god, every other female skater is allowed to have a strugglebus period, aside from these ladies. Kaori has a disastrous season - no one bats an eye. Rika struggles with underrotations, bombs a program - she must be injured. Tutberidze girl makes 1-2 mistakes in a really difficult program - “she’s done, it’s over for her”.

I hear you, and as I said, if Anna comes back next year stronger I'll be relieved. If Aliona comes back next season stronger, I'll be doubly relieved. Struggling for a year while puberty changes your body is totally normal. Struggling for a year then ending your career because you no longer have the physical strength to go on is another matter.

Now that the competition is over.....Anna herself said she had her same conditioning as before despite training less for RusNats so it went ok. That all makes sense. It seems like she has been unable to train properly since then. But what should we think about it taking 4 months to recover from pneumonia? Do we know for sure she hasn't recovered yet? Has she recovered but her conditioning isn't ideal? Anna's case wasn't severe.

A nice full recovery will be a great Birthday present.

But Kaori and Rika were never super consistent Anna was. Kaori has always been a super inconsistent skater, she's had pretty good seasons (18/19 especially) but she's had several competitions where she's bombed in junior and senior. Anna, on the other hand, has had one. Rika, too, used to be a huge question mark as a junior. She gained a lot of consistency as a senior, especially last season, but even in 18/19 she wasn't always consistent. Tutberidze girls are known (except for Sasha I guess) for being super consistent and I guess it makes sense that when someone who used to have a 100% success rate goes down to say, 60% (which isn't what's happening but still), it's more significant than someone who went from 70% to 60%.

True..but Kaori did NOT have a disastrous season..

I like how they conveniently ignored that except for the JGPF, Anna was on the podium too. I also like how they ignored that Anna had (at the time) never lost a FS in her senior career.

I couldn't be happier for Liza and Anna, and great comeback from Sasha.
I do think that judgeing was fair-ish.
They ignored some of Anna's mistakes but even if they wouldn't, she was many points clear.

Same time I don't know if I like the way figure skating is going these days, i remember watching WC in 2019 nd Olimpics, everyone going clean, one after another.

This seems more like a jump fest.

And perhaps you remember 2018 because they was not clean..

She deserves her national and world title. However the points gap is what’s an issue to me

You don't think Sasha and Liza were also overscored?? Their scores made sense - comparatively to each other. It's in comparison to the Japanese girls that they made no sense. (The American girls also benefited from gifts.)

Only her Japanese Nationals skate was really truly disastrous. And she never had a clean performance the year before or really ever. She's just inconsistent..(that makes it not a single-handedly disastrous year.)

Her PCS are always all over the place too. Same with Rika's for that matter.

She had a rough performance on her challenger too if I remember correctly, scoring only around 50 for her SP. Got a carrot cake at one of her GPs, don’t remember how the other one went, I think she popped a few times. 4CC was also an upsetting performance from her. Overall, she seemed to be improving the previous season and it looked to me like she took a big dive the season after.

My prediction for girls which i voiced for my girlfriends: (Unfortunately, I rode the metro and the bus while they jump in pool, but I could watch all this online in HD quality (yes, we have very cheap internet, about 35 megabits / second for $ 7 a month, unlimited, 4G for the phone). I told my friend that if Kihira goes to the bank, then she might start to fall and take second or third place. But Kihira, alas, spoiled the program a lot. As a Russian, it would be more interesting for me if the Japanese made competition, and I really hoped for that. Of course, I am pleased to see how my girls win medals, but I expected a fight from the Japanese, and I am very sorry that they did not. Very sorry. Yes, we have all the medals in women, but Japan dominate in men. I hope Japane it will be more interesting in the future. Japan I hope that you will make a grate competition in the future!!! Very!!!

Except that Aliona is the most beautiful skater in the world with the best technique. No? If she finds her form again watch out!
I expect the best triple axel in the world to return next season too. Aliona will be a factor.

I love Aliona and I think she's a stunning skater. But I don't think she has the overall best technique. She also tends to have edge issues on her lutz.

None of those were really outliers. And she didn't have a single clean skate the entire season before.

In my opinion most popular sports in russia is 1) Football 2) Hockey 3) Figure skating
Just for you know is in the any city (10000 or bigger people) of Russia had a two or more ice pools.

In 2019 in free skate 10 first skaters, 8 were clean. 2 feel once (and didn't podium). So yeah they were clean.

Indeed 2018 a splash fest lead by Zagitova. However 2016 and 2017 clean again

Alyona had edge issues at TT as well, also she would prerotate the Lutz a lot sometimes.
Anyway still the most consistent and well rounded senior skater we have seen so far.

Yes, I think we are in a period (for the ladies) where we have these difficult elements, (quads, 3As, etc.) and a few skaters who can do them. These skaters who can do them well; they are able to pull ahead and win, and everyone else is left in the dust. These elements are performed by enough skaters to occupy the podium, but they are so difficult that not nearly enough people can do them to the point that they have become a standard. (Like all triples except 3A)

What I fear is that this "period" will last forever now.
