Yes, indeed. Charlotte did compete senior last season and placed 11th. A number of junior women from last season have moved up to senior this year -- Of the top ten juniors at Cdns last year - just three are staying junior.

With the new 'elimination' process of all seniors going to a Canadian challenge and the top 14 moving on to Cdns plus Joannie, Mira, Lesley and Cynthia = 18 - the push will be on to make those prize slots and there will be a lot of really good talent left drying their blades in Mississauga rather than heating up the ice in Vancouver as they should be if the old qualifying round was still in place.

With a JGP score of 102.46 at Sheffield, Charlotte Belair would have finished 17th in senior at last year's Canadians...which would have left her home last year under the new system.....

Skate Canada says it will make the senior events at Canadians "more marketable" read profitable by filling up the seats. Dream on.....

Are Velenosi/Fernandez and Jeremy Ten remaining in junior, or ar they moving up? Same question for Joanna Lenko/Mitchell Islam (jr dance siver from last yr, silver in lake placid, bronze in tallin on JGP this year). I know that MacCuish/Evans and Crone/Poirier, last yrs pairs and dance champions are making the jump up. If Lenko/Islam and Velenosi/Fernandez stay in Jr's, they'll likley take the titles. If not, I agree that Lawrence/Swigers and Jones/Jackson have a shot at it. I also like Ralph/Hill (last yr's novice dance champions) to be on the podium. I know that they've just moved up, but the got 2 JGP's this season and were 4th in lake placid. They're awsome.

Jeremy Ten is skating senior at nationals this year. He will have to qualify at the senior challenge this year for one of 11 spots. The 6 men on the senior GP as well as Sandhu ( since he medalled last Canadians) all have direct byes to nationals.

Amanda VELENOSI / Mark FERNANDEZ are skating senior as well at nationals. They competed senior at the Quebec summer competition. Because they made the JGP final, they get to go straight to Canadians.

Lenko/Islam I think are skating senior as well at Canadians and they too get a direct bye to nationals since they made the JGPF final as do Crone/Poirier.

My predictions for juniors.

Pairs

1. Olivia Jones/ Don Jackson
2. Paige Lawrence/ Rudi Swiegers

Men

Both Ian Martinez and Ten are skating senior this year. So my prediction is

1. Balde
2. Ferland
3. Lum

Ladies

1. Rika Inoda
2. Kirsten Moore-Towers

Dance

Asher/Hill are certain to medal but I think that Karen ROUTHIER / Eric SAUCKE-LACELLE will finish first due to Asher/Hill's struggles with the compulsory dance. Both these couples should be ahead of the rest of the field.

Thanks for the info. I'm happy that all of these skates are going senior. It will just increase the depth of the Sr cometition that much more. Some of these kids have the potential to be challengers in Sr's right away. I was also wondering why Lenko/Islam and Crone/Poirier weren't of the COS sectionals entry list, but I guess that explains it. I agree that Ralph/Hill will be up there, but the CD could be a problem for them. I hope they take the title, though. Three in a row would be amazing.

Keep em coming, this is great info :D

Alas yes alot of the juniors are moving up senior so we might just have to wait on the sectional results, except for those of us that know the skaters who might want to keep the community informed :agree:

Out of curiosity, does anyone think that Vanessa Crone and Puls Poiriercan factor into the medal mix and their singles events? I assume that they would get a bye to nationals since the JGPF is the same week as their challenge event, but I've never seen them skate singles before.

Paul Poirer could factor in the metals in singles if he competes Jr. or lower. I think he won the Novice title last year, but it might have been the year before. He has a nice 3T-3T and a nice 3Lz. His other triples are also solid, although I don't know if he has a 3A. His ice coverage and basic skating are also good, as would be expected with his ice dance training. If he has a 3A I think he could be competative as a Sr. I havn't seen Vanessa Crone skate singles, so I don't know if she could contend. Although with the women's feild being what it is in Canada...

No Poirier finished 3rd in novice mens last year and is competing junior nationally this year. He definitely is in the running for a medal although the junior men's field will be very tight with several men with a legitimate chance at the medals. He could find himself on the JGP next year for men and the senior GP in dance next season. He does not have a 3A. In the central Ontario section he scored 159.21 beating Andrei Rogozine ( who got 2 JGP assignments this year) by around 25 points. Andrei scored 124.13.

Crone is unlikely to medal. Even though she won the central Ontario competition with a total score of 105.29 ( beating the next best skater by about 10 points) , she did not even attempt a triple in either the short or long program. She does garner good PCS scores but the jumps simply aren't there.

Thanks for the great information everyone. I didn't know that Poirier had so many triples, and that Crone didn't attempt any. I was just curious. Regardless, they make a fantastic dance team together, so I'll be rooting for them at the JGP final and @ Sr. nats this year.
