I agree. When one door closes, another opens. There are always going to be new skaters and new partnerships to fill a void, which doesn't mean the love and the memories for faves who are no longer together, won't last.
For example, I had a soft place in my heart for Kat DelCamp/Ian Somerville, but I just saw the news in Retirements/Splits thread that Kat has formed a partnership with Billy Wilson French of Great Britain. They will represent Great Britain. I was very surprised to see that Kat and Ian have split. I truly wonder what's up? Kat and Ian have apparently been very close friends. Perhaps they are still friends, but their skating goals diverged? Certainly, the competition was getting stiff in junior ice dance with the new partnership of Flores/Tsarevski, and with several other teams improving, including the Browns, and with Wolfkostin/Chen well-established as federation faves.
It's also possible that Ian might be injured, or else he may simply have decided to pursue other endeavors. He will certainly be missed if he's no longer competing. He's been an absolute delight to watch over the years. Well, I can only wish Kat the best with her new partner, and also send warm thoughts and wishes to Ian. In terms of the citizenship issue, I wonder whether one of Kat's parents might have British ties?
I've never heard of Billy Wilson French, so I checked YouTube. He's apparently a dancer on and off the ice, and definitely a good fit for Kat. I think his dyed blond hair works well for him too, and is also a nice contrast to Kat's dark hair:

ETA:
A possible factor in the Kat/Ian split is that
Ian turned 21 on September 1st this year, thus he's aging out of juniors. Meanwhile, Katarina turned 17 this past June, so she has at least two more years of junior eligibility in ice dance. She appears to need more junior experience. IMO, she doesn't seem currently ready for seniors. So, that could also explain the Kat/Ian split. Wilson French turned 18 this summer (July 7), so he is close in age to Kat, and competing for Great Britain offers Kat better competitive opportunities. Possibly, Ian is also searching for a new partner, and aiming to switch countries too, if a good opportunity materializes.
