Good! I really like Rino. I’m glad she is one of five Japanese ladies who gets two spots in the circuit.
I never understood the whole charade of leaving that spot open when it is so obvious that the JSF wants Rino to be in the Olympics. Maybe as a courtesy to more experienced skaters they passed over?

Can we be sure though? The season has barely started. In theory, if Satoko gets consistent and Rino somehow doesn't do well, especially at Nationals, then I can imagine JSF sending Satoko again. The chance of that happening is slim (and there are also other skaters like Wakaba who may skate lights out this season), but not nonexistent.

I think you misunderstood my statement. I was talking about the JSF leaving the NHK spot open when it was obvious it would go to Rino the whole time. The Olympic spot is a different issue because it will come down to performance at Nats, which is unpredictable this far out.

Japan has several women they could send if they get consistent.... Mai, Satoko, Rino and Wakaba are all in the conversation for the third spot.
Rika needs to get over her injury issues or she isn't a lock either. She hasn't looked good in a while. Its too far away with too many uncertainties to predict.

I thought the spot would go to Mana or Tomoe. I guess we will only see them at nationals now, which seems ages away!
Perhaps they were waiting to see whether they would send Kao to the JGP or not (for the NHK men's spot)? As they like to announce entries together...

I still think that Rika has the best tech content to challenge for podiums, hopefully her move to Orser will pay off for her.

I was referring to the NHK spot, not the Olympics.
Okay! But you did say "JSF wants Rino to be in the Olympics". So I said I think it will be Satoko not Rino, no matter to whom they gave the NHK spot. :)

At least two people misunderstood what you meant, so maybe it is not necessarily on them? I was reacting only to the part where you said it's obvious JSF wants Rino at the OG. It is not obvious to me, more like they're leaving the door open.

Oh, I'd love to see Tomoe again! But she's too far down the rankings and Nats results for international events to happen for her this season, I'm afraid -_-

Regardless which girls go to the Olympics, they need to perform to their abilities for a change. In the US forum they have no fear of the Japanese ladies at all, and actually think their stiffs are better skaters than the Japanese girls. That is the fault of the Japanese ladies for consistently underperforming in big competitions.

I think we should remember that there was a test competition to decide the TBA spot to NHK…so at best we could only make the reasoning that Rino possibly outperformed other potential candidates, including Yuhana, Tomoe, or Rin (Nitaya), assuming they were at the test competition.

As you would expect. Rino is better than all of them. My point was why go through that when they could have just assigned it to her originally. Why would they want to assign Rino only one spot in an Olympic year? They obviously think highly of her. Seems like needless pretense to me.

I would say that from what I have seen last season and from this year's assignments that JSF wants Kaori and Rino for sure. That doesn't guarantee they will go because it will almost certainly come down to top 3 at Nats. But it does mean that they will be scored generously, so to beat them the other skaters will have to be far superior, IMO.

If Rino does get an Olympic spot, it would mean at least one among Satoko, Wakaba and Kaori won’t get to go, which would be incredibly sad.

What about Rika?
Anyhow, I'd say the chances of Rino, Kaori (if she risks and adds the 3A she practices, or a quad), Satoko and Wakaba are fairly even, so whoever skates best at Nationals should be chosen (but GP results should also be considered).
