Exactly, fields in dance were always strong before. It isnt now. What is to like about that.

Well, I just like the fact the the Russian and European ice dancers will be a thing of the past with the U.S. and the Canadian ice dancers paving their top of the sport

I still think some teams are able to rise above all the restrictions imposed by the CoP (everyone is going for the exact same high level elements).

I like the way that Virtue/Moir skate...hip to hip...always looking at each other...with a lot of difficulty and originality in the lifts and spins.

I like the way that Belbin/Agosto capture the country flair of their dance. It had the most authentic theme of all the "folk" dances and it was beautifully executed.

More recent past

And compared to the more recent past, well, these teams ain't quite as awful as some would portray. How would Tatiana Navka & Roman Kostomarov stack up? How about Lobacheva & Averbukh? Or Galit Chait & Sergei Sakhnovsky?

Granted, this isn't the hay day of ice dancing, but you gotta give them at least a tiny bit of credit. The sport is demanding and the funding is weak.

:agree: Belbin/Agosto and Cotton Eye Joe
Nice speed thru both seq., and they interpreted their choreography well. Nice back on the curved lift, but that definitely was ripped from Del/Scho (B/A uses different entrance though).

ALLEZ! yay....clean but that spin is killing me...yay! weak circ step though...but....YAY!:rock:

Why haven't they changed their spin?????
Were Del/Sch behind the music thru that circular step?

Dom/Sha & V/M had miscues on the twizzles. Thought the former had overbloated PCS -- Russians were sloooooow.

Can you do better?

No offense to the teams of the past, but all they were able to do (the top teams) were use their faces to emote the music. Grischuk and Platov were better in 1994 than they were in 1998, because in 1994 they actually danced--in 1998, they made facial expressions to the music. That's what I like about most of the top teams in this era (with the exception of Dominatrix and Shabalin) they actually dance, and don't need to contort their faces, or make wild arm movements that have nothing to do with the music.

So all you about is nationality!! I dont care about nationality, I care about quality. Currently there are 2 NA and 2 Europeans making up the group of hopeless contenders, 1 of those Russian, so for the record there is some of both anyway. However that doesnt matter to me, what matters is what those four are putting out is so weak and drab compared to what the top 3-5 of the 80s and 90s put out. Heck even the 2002 field which I thought at the time was weak was better then the current top 4 easily.

Actually all the current top teams are able to do is be very slow, sloppy, show flawed unision, and a complete lack of emotion, chemistry, or magic in anything they do. As for Gritschuk/Platov, they were never my favorites but they could beat any of the current teams on one leg in their prime.

temperboy, I respect your viewpoint and your passion, but you must have posted in haste before, because you seriously misspelled the names of most of your favorites. It is always good to check the names before posting, if there is time. ;)

I was browsing through the daum program and I saw a little picture of Del/Shoe (it was what they were showing at the time...). It worked... May be, try to find a picture of one of the men (they´re showing the warm up now)

They DO show emotion, AND chemistry, AND magic....it is required by the COP. It forces these dancer to do all that stuff, otherwise they be getting diddly for PCS, and i have to say that Tanith and Ben show alot of emotion

Thanks a lot! am watching it right now...it stops at times but better than nothing...thanks to all guys!

  to the bolded part.

As for the PCS, if everyone is weak and those 4 teams are the best of a weak field of course they will get PCS. They have to give them to someone right.

:clap: Bravo!!!!! You have made you point. Now leave this thread alone for people who actually like Ice Dancing

Can be a critic

Methinks that it's ok for a viewer to be a critic without actually being able to do better themselves. So, for whomever put forward the argument "Can you do better?", well, thumbs down.

OTOH, I think we tend to romantize a bit. Grishok and Platov were pretty good, but there were plenty of critics of them, too, during their time. So, it's always easy to say things were better in the good ole days.

I don't think that the CoP is taking it's toll. I think it's funding. At one time, the Soviets had this amazing system for finding and cultivating the best of the best... and they funded them.

But, hey, there's some great things about modern technology. For example, would some of these partnerships even have formed if it weren't for the Internet?

Well I don't know about anyone else but it's nice to see Tanith and Ben in first place.

oh please somebody could please tell me how Olivier and Isabel did? It sounds like their spins and circular steps weren't too hot, but hey they're ranked second! and did Belbin and Agosto really change their final lift to something similar to D/S's?

I liked the olden days of ice skating too, but I'm quite bothered by the negativity of the tempered boy. He should quit being so negative!!! For sure Delobel and Schoenfelder are not quite like Anissina and Peizirat, but that doesn't prevent me from loving them all the same!

when i was watching it, i was so nervous for his twizzles....haha
but they were perfect...but not as fast
their spin is still the same but i believe it has 5 rotations per position now...i guess thats a level 3 now? maybe 4
their circular step is...boring...not enough intricacy...some say a bit off with music...but maybe its the GREAT espn connection

ALLLEZ!

as for the lift..yes similar to first part of the cyclone lift...
as for past and present juxataposition...stop it...haha move on
