Aliona and Anna are worlds apart in personality and temperament though.

I don't think all is lost for Aliona yet but Anna has a special kind of tenacity that can't really be extrapolated to other people.
I think they both can deliver better skates in competition, than they do in practice, in general. Aliona also was known for having that quality, but of course she lost some of her confidence. And agree, Anna’s character is something special. She’s a very fierce competitor.

F‘n Anna.

In a sport of numbers, decimals, tenths, etc, you have no way to measure heart and guts and a champion mentality.

Even if you could, that instrument would melt down way before it was able to calculate those for Anna anyway.

Anna is watching what is going on with her teammates and that competitive fire is raging.
I do agree that Anna's greatest advantage over her training mates is the ability to keep her composure under stress and difficult situations and to deliver when needed the most. I actually witnessed this at her very first senior event (Lombardia Trophy), when she splattered all over the ice doing her quads on the warmup and then delivered a very good program with no mistake and the first ever women quad lutz. That's why I wasn't particularly worried for her yesterday, I knew that deep inside she has what it takes to turn the events in her favour.

This incessant PR-campaign for promoting Tuktamysheva to the Olympics is starting to annoy me.

Now Orser is in touch: "Liza gives hope to all the skaters of the planet. She must be on the Olympic team in Beijing-2022" Everything is outrageous here - and "all the skaters of the planet", and "must"

(Yes, I understand that the scoundrels-journalists from sportsru, who enthusiastically participate in this PR-campaign, have strengthened the actions of Orser's words, taking them out of context, but still)

Liza gives hope to all the skaters of the planet. Because she continues to improve, despite the fact that she is no longer a young girl, but a young woman. How could I forget her? Write that I like her the most, that she is the best!

Her work with Alexey Mishin is incredible, I sincerely wish her to get to the Olympics in Beijing. She must to be on the Olympic team in Beijing. I really hope to see her there, it would be great for the whole world of figure skating

The goal of this PR-campaign is obvious - that Liza would have a soft pillow in the form of a "unanimous public opinion". So that the judges at the Russian championship know that it is necessary to judge Liza in a special way. So that the federation that will determine the third ticket to the Olympics by the internal council knows that "Liza deserved it!"

This is outrageous.

I like one of the popular comments under this note: "Liza in the Olympic team gives hope to figure skaters from other countries for bronze". Indeed

There is no problem with the title. It is the core message of his words. Your outrage over that is ridiculous
Firstly, I am outraged by whole this PR company, Orser's words are only part of this. Secondly, even in this format, Orser should not have said so. Especially considering that he is the official coach of the main contender for bronze.

I'm talking about your attack on the journalists. Hence why i quoted only the very specific part of your post

It's ironic, how people in Western countries were OK with Serena Williams winning everything (or almost everything) during many years. And now some other people in Western countries are not happy with Russian skaters winning everything. One can easily see it on this board. My biggest concern is about introducing measures that have nothing to do with fair play: ban the quads, increase the senior age to 20 years, introduce "artistic" programs, keep Russian skaters off competitions, etc.
I think raising the age limit to 20 is irrational. There is no sport that has an age limit of 20 for seniors, except the biathlon (22). The next highest for winter sports is hockey (18).

For Daria it will be really important to get very good scores with every international opportunity. She also should not focus on Olympics, but just focus on next season, precisely on gaining 3A or a quad. After NHK, if I were her, I would beg Eteri to jump as much as I can.
If she doesn’t gain those jumps until the end of the season, Russia can easily take her out of GP events next year in favor of new seniors those who do have those jumps.
Yes, the competition for GP assignments will be brutal next year. Right now there are 12 Russian women in the SB Top 24, there are only room for 9 at the GPs. So 3 Russian women will be left out.

Getting GP assignments is very important for your career. This is the way Liza has stayed relevant for over 10 years now. She has NEVER lost her GP assignments. For Tarusina and Gubanova, who both were left out a couple of years ago, it turned out differently. Their careers ended.

I think it was a knee what ended Tarusina's career.

Not a Serena fn. I preferred Venus. But Serena earned everything and won everythng. Much respect

Hey I'm from one of those Western countries and guess what you're right!. Wait till Sofia A joins KV on the tour in a year or two and if she's as good as we think she's going to be there will be another great one coming. Then there will be SA KV Anna Sasha AK Maya and Dasha. I hope people wont still be complaining about the TT or Russian lady greatness then. ;)

If Valieva wins olympic gold at 15 scoring say 250 plus points and people go wow like the comments on youtube are will the sport really be better without the next KV in 4 years?

You are right Sam if American or Japanese ladies were dominating the sport like the TT Russians are this would not be an issue.

If ISU wanted a more exciting sport and season let countries that dominate the GP season in the olympic season get an extra spot for olympics and worlds that season. Russia could get 6 girls for GPF. 5 at least. Russian pairs could have what 4 teams in GPF? Those that dominate should be rewarded more than they are.

I think it was a knee what ended Tarusina's career.
It was. But who knows how her motivation had been if she had gotten her senior GP assignments. Her last season she was forced to stay in juniors even though she was senior eligible, she finished 2nd in her two JGPs and STILL didn't qualify for JGPF. She won a Challenger event and was in the SB Top 24. She was forced to be in juniors yet another season, and when her injury showed up again, she just quit.

A comment like must be on the olympic team is an embarrassment coming from a top coach and a former olympian! Liza should be embarrassed by such comments. Support is fine but this is over the top. Must be on the Russian olympic team ahead of KV Anna Sasha Maya Aliona and Dasha? How about we see what happens in GPF and Rusnats then the fed will figure it out. If the fed plays games and puts her on the team over a more deserving skater they will do irreperable damage to themselves and annoy alot of their skaters. If Liza earns her way on great. If she just misses out as I expect now that Anya is coming on and Sasha is getting healthy so be it. Liza is special but she cant score with Kamila Anna and Sasha at their bests or near their bests. Liza can hold off Maya dasha and Aliona. But KV Anna and Sasha hold their olympic team position in their hands. Does anyone really think if it comes down to Anna or Liza they take Liza?

Sasha needs to start scoring 240 plus points. if she does watch out. But I dont dicount Liza adding a quad by Rusnats. She may have to if Sasha is scoring over 240 as I expect she will.

This olympic season should be fun and heartbreaking.

Hey Brian have Canada give up their ladies spot in the olympcs so Russia can send 4. Then we would certainly have Liza on the team. Unless Maya gets 3 quads and a 3A by Rusnats! ;)

I'm watching ATP Paris Masters and it's a full house. Unvaccinated players are also playing. The atmosphere has come back to pre Covid levels. I fail to see why France couldn't do the same to a figure skating tournament. I guess the government there have no incentive because they consider figure skating as a fringe sport. It's a shame really.
What unvaccinated players? Novak? Did they have to quarantine? Recent Moscow mens and womens event had 30% capacity I think.

Sadly you are right figure skating as much as we love it is treated like a fringe sport. Mens tennis players go to Paris and officals say all is good bruh! LOL.

Dang thats worse than what Nastya went through. So unfair and unlucky.

Anna looks as soft as a kitten but is as tough as nails. Unreal. I am not worried about her anymore Anna is finding her way and will be one of the favorites for the Russian olympic team. And being the current world #1, current world champion and current 3 time national champion will give her the tiebreaker edge over others for the olympic team if it comes down to that.

If the KaMissile or Sasha had Annas mental toughness they would be unbeatable!

Mishin is always able to get them challengers, which kept their WS scores high enough to be in top24 and maybe earn a better SB. Sometimes Liza did 3 challengers per year to stay there. I think SPb federation is always good with this, they are able to send their skaters to challengers quite often.
I remember Konstantinova also tried that strategy, she went to 3 challengers one season, was able to get 2 GP assignments the following season, but had very bad results on her GP assignments.
I also recall that on one of the challengers Sakhanovich was able to break 200, which helped her get Skate Canada get assignment.

Moscow federation doesn’t seem to be as good at this. Gubanova is the example, many other strong skaters could’ve been given several challengers to at least have a chance of earning good SB and WS score. But then Moscow skaters already represent the majority of the national team, so I guess the idea is that no additional effort from their side is required.

That’s good. I can’t be the only one advocating for Liza at the Olympics. Keep writing those articles.

Can we also increase the incessant level by a factor of 10 or 100? Do your job press. Ignore the anti Liza people completely.

And obviously find a way to ban those comments like the last one about bronze. Now is no time for freedom of speech. Haha

Having the press do it also takes a little of the workload off of me. Haha
