If Gracie were to win, it would be a very poorly skated event and/or a lot of top skaters withdrawn. If that happened, you'd have several skaters with international scores over 200 who would be picked for the team.So does this mean Gracie could win US Nats and probably wouldn't make it to olympics.
Is Mariah injured? Why is she not competing?
Mariah changed both of her programs after the season started. She went to a new short program and is recycling Hallelujah. The assumption is that she's spent the early fall season preparing her new/old programs, which is why she didn't enter any Challengers. Is Mariah injured? Why is she not competing?
I would never say never. But…from what I can see, the odds are one in a million. Perhaps, as the clock ticks, even less…judging from last year she’s been unable to get back to her prime…and even if she eventually did…would that be enough any more?I love Gracie as much as anyone. So much. But Gracie will not win Nationals.
Gracie had a good Olympics two quads ago and that was that. Oh and there was that Worlds she should have won where Ashley got the silver. She has the goods, still, to do well enough in her next comp and maybe make it to Nats. At best, if she makes it, penultimate group in FS if she does well in her short. Top ten would get her a GP for next year. Right? But if all of that fails to occur and even if it does occur I cannot imagine her continuing on much longer. I don't see her as a coach. An actress? Well perhaps. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I, like so many many others, want what's best for her.I know there is a lot of contemplating but really we just have to let it all play out. I just can't help but feel Bradie might find it hard coming back and missing the GP. I honestly sadly don't have any confidence Gracie can make the team as others have pointed out her body of work recently is lacking. Assuming she made US nats this could be her farewell.
... So if she had a good result at US Nationals, backed up by good results next summer, she might get something like a Skate America host pick. She’s got a long hard slog still ahead of her.
And you’re right - she’s not even in the ISP.
... Top ten would get her a GP for next year. Right? ...

Look, anyone who has followed the US Ladies this season has to know that Gracie, though I love her, is not the skater she was in 2016. I have seen her land a 3Luzt-3Toe in a practice video but, I haven't seen her do one in Competition in years. With Alysa, Lindsay, and hopefully a healthy Bradie by Nationals. She'd have no chance to medal at Nationals. When you add Mariah and Amber, that's a lot of skaters who would need to have the worst event of their careers for Gracie to make the team. If the committee gets involved, I'm sure they'd send Karen who is responsible along with Bradie for the US having that 3rd spot. When Worlds rolls around, if we're going to hold on to those spots we need to send skaters with a higher base value than Gracie is currently capable of executing. If Gracie were to win, it would be a very poorly skated event and/or a lot of top skaters withdrawn. If that happened, you'd have several skaters with international scores over 200 who would be picked for the team.
Dave Lease? He made some sexists and racist comments about skaters in the past. Mainly, I just listen to Jonathan and Polina from this and that lesson. I don't aware of Jonathan and other guests (Polina) make the same kind of nasty comments like Dave Lease does. Jonathan did mention weakness about Alysa which I agree - ice coverage is still not enough. Other than that, Alysa make huge improvements especially artistry, gliding and skating speed. I just hope people stop from insulting her and keep saying Alysa skates like a junior with "slow" skating speed. I'm also tired of listening people from comparing Amber's practice to other skater's real competition. That's about it. Let's move on to the next subject.[
To this I can just say ok.. but please work on your reading comprehension because I didn't say those things about Alysa and I don't like people ascribing things to me that I never said. Alysa is an amazing skater with strengths and weaknesses like any other.
By the way, I had real friends who attended SC why would I listen to the opinion of man who has made sexists, racist, and horrible comments about skaters? Whose sidekick joked about sexual abuse that was occurring in Russia? I'm not going to give such a person any views on YouTube. If he has good things to say about Alysa now, great. But, watch out because tomorrow they will say terrible things if she falters
When discussing Alysa's medalling prospects in Japan, it is important to look at the season and how scores have progressed. Although Alysa's chances are slim, it is definitely doable. However, one of the main concerns I have is the downward trend of Alysa's total score whereas their rivals' scores have been on an upward trend.
Alysa L.
- CS Lombardia Trophy: 74.31 + 144.93 = 219.24
- CS Nebelhorn Trophy: 70.86 + 136.54 = 207.40
- Skate Canada International: 73.63 + 132.90 = 206.53
Avg. Total Score: 211.05
Now, let's take a look at the other front-runners:
Daria U.
- 76.71 + 140.60 = 217.31
Young Y.
- 70.73 + 146.24 = 216.97
- 60.66 + 119.59 = 180.25
Avg. Total Score: 198.61
Kaori S.
- 71.16 + 144.77 = 215.93
- 76.60 + 125.58 = 202.28
Avg. Total Score: 209.10
Compared to their rivals, Alysa remains the most consistent and level-headed competitor. However, unlike Kaori or Daria, Alysa is prone to under-rotating and if the technical panel is strict, Alysa's score will definitely be detrimentally affected. On the other hand, Kaori and Young are not the most consistent skaters and if they have an off day, Alysa can definitely best them. Daria remains Alysa's biggest threat as even on an off day, she scores north of 140.
Other dark horses include Mana, Rino, and Seo-yeong. Although Mana can be inconsistent, Rino and Seo-yeong are natural competitors who can rival Alysa's consistency and neither of them suffer from under-rotation calls (although Seo-yeong's edges might get called). Finally, Amber should not be counted out either; although she has been inconsistent, with Karen's less than spectacular showing at Skate Canada, Amber has a great opportunity to improve and show that she is a leading contender.
I looked at PCS domestically because that's all we have data on for the last year (at least until Mariah competes at her first GP) and because when I looked at their competition history internationally they haven't at the same competition since the 2016-2017 season (before the last Olympics) thus we'd be looking at different judging panels...
In spite of saying that I went ahead and pulled the 2019-2020 season which was the last full international season we have for both of them, I pulled both of their GP events and their Challenger event, Karen also did an event in Philadelphia that was a domestic event. Below is the PCS for both the SP and the FS in each event.
Mariah:
Karen:
- Nebelhorn: SP: 31.64; FS: 66.48
- IDF: SP: 32.55; FS: 69.25
- Rostelecom: SP: 33.36; FS: 69.76
- Autumn Classic: SP: 30.48; FS: 60.32
- Skate America: SP: 31.06; FS: 58.01
- NHK: SP: 31.77; FS: 61.13
She coaches already. Amber (+Alysa) - NHK/Japan - this weekWhen is Karen's next competition? And Amber's? Mariah's? I'm so anxious.
Alysa has done better than any other US Senior Lady this season. That's what I like to focus on. She hasn't lost to a US Lady this season and that's what matters. When she skates clean, she has the highest Base Value ( By Far ) of all the Senior Ladies and I'm sure she's being backed to the hilt by the FED. If she's not, IMO, she should be.Wrong information about Alysa, Alysa had 2 competitions BEFORE Lombardia:
Cranberry Cup result:
Alysa Liu USA - 205.74 (FS 134.32)
Silicon Valley open result:
Alysa Liu USA - 205.2 (FS 139.39)
Alysa is NOT in downward trend. She remains flat and consistent for this season so far.
Amber (+Alysa) - NHK/Japan - this week
Karen/Mariah - France - next week
Mariah - Russia - the following week

Whoa - Gracie might skate on after Beijing? I am curious about funding. But I guess if she really loves skating. Still it is hard to see a world contender fall into the category of not even a pretenderGracie had a good Olympics two quads ago and that was that.
