2021 Cup of Warsaw: Pairs Free Skate

That was a bad fall. I'm glad they are not repeating views of it like the camera operators used to do. And when the helpers finally went out on the ice to assist, the camera moved away, as it should. The video of what happened will still be visible. I'm not sure whether it was a balance issue or what. Chelsea didn't seem into the performance with all those mistakes. I hope both of them are alright. Chelsea may need observation for a concussion though. And Danny looked as if there was a cut or a knot on his head.

These two are such a great pair together, and they have lovely programs this season. This is sad. Wishing them both a full recovery. I hope it's not too serious, but Chelsea didn't look good as they were helping her off the ice. Prayers and thoughts for Chelsea & Danny. 👼

you could hear them screaming, it was terrifying
You mean the audience was screaming. If the skaters made sounds of surprise, I'm sure the audience was louder. The fall did not look like an immediate bounce back type of fall. I'm not sure why it takes so long for the officials and rescue crew to react. Pairs skating is always dangerous. This is a reminder. The skaters make what's dangerous and difficult look easy.

Earlier, there was a team with a lift that came down with a fall (but not serious), and then Zandron fell off his skate edge during the death spiral, for which he and Barquero received no points, but at least no accident they have to recover from. The ice certainly can't be in great condition if they are just using buckets to smooth over ruts. SMH

they should have, honestly, but they left with their feet so maybe it wasn't that bad as it looked from here?
I guess? Although you can never tell and if you move someone the consequences can be terrible. :( that's why I thought there was a rule? Most of the time it's fine but always better to be safe than sorry :(

But you're right it looks like they're OK spinalwise.

Get well soon Chelsea and Danny!

i thought i heard a male and a female voice screaming, maybe i'm still in shock anyway i won't rewind to make sure of it, i don't want to see it again

Is the final group taking the ice at nearly midnight local time? I don't think this should be allowed at an ISU competition, especially not pair skating which is especially dangerous. Sr Bs/Challenger events sometimes have a surplus of entries because all the skaters who don't have Grand Prix assignments go to Sr Bs instead, and the event organizer needs to plan accordingly. If you can't finish the competition by 10 or 11PM, you should have to extend your event by another day.

i love this discipline, it's my second favourite, but it's also so scary

With buckets? No Zamboni available? This looks utterly unprofessional/dangerous.
It is standard practice to go out with buckets to fill the divots before the Zamboni goes over everything. I remember being very impressed during my first visit to Oberstdorf when a big crew of young ladies went out with buckets of ice and spatulas before the Zamboni came out.

totally agree, or at least start earlier

Obviously, I don't know. But I would guess it was people in the audience witnessing the fall who screamed. Chelsea and Danny may have reacted audibly, but I think this kind of thing happens so quickly when you are an athlete that you don't have time to actually scream. If anything, maybe yell out briefly or grunt on impact. Not sure.

Absolutely and when Roman Sadovsky’s blood was all over the ice at Skate Canada recently, this is just what they did—stopped the comp, and went out with buckets to clean it up and repair the ice before resuming. So I would guess there was blood involved here.
