Evgenia Medvedeva has retired from competitive skating.

PJ Hallam (singles, Great Britain) announces his retirement from competitive skating in this video, with a sweet lookback on his career.

ETA: (And I now see that @La Rhumba had posted the news in the Great Britain thread🙌)
That is really sad, I felt I didn´t get to enjoy his skating for long after I discovered him. Best luck to him with what comes next!

He’s quite lovely. I wish he had been able to raise more money for training.

He is also 26. Although I think that’s a young age, it is an age when many skaters realize they want to experience more of the outside world. Judging only from the vid, I do not think finances were the driving factor.

Best of luck PJ in your future endeavors!

Kanysheva and Pylin were ice dancers.

Kanysheva was a singles skater as a Junior, as recently as 2018? Then switched to dance. But this is from records, since I didn’t follow her or remember her myself.
I liked her. She was a promising junior until she got injured. She then switched to ice dance.

@Balloon in the Canadian thread just let us know that Brasseur/Daleman were no longer skating... Brasseur needed surgery. Daleman would have retired... apparently it's been a while but it's the first time I hear of it... anybody else knew ? (Canadian pairs team that caught our attention since they are beautiful to watch and of course, have wolrd/olympic medals in their family)

I think finances may have been a huge factor in PJs decision. During a recent TV interview he spoke about the struggle to finance his skating due to a complete lack of funding. I think he said the sport was 90% struggle, which is so sad when something that he so obviously loves and is so talented at is made so hard. I also remember a few years ago reading or watching something which reported the huge financial burden that was placed on his family. It stuck with me because it was mentioned that they sometimes struggled to eat properly and often resorted to beans on toast.
Perhaps when he talked about an enormous weight been lifted from his shoulders he was referring to the extra pressure that an athlete must put upon themselves when they know the sacrifices that those around them make.

It is so sad that U.K. sport cannot help athletes such as PJ and if they keep to their current funding strategy it will be no different after the upcoming Olympics.

He also talked about now having a normal life; well I hope that will include building lots of new dreams and memories that he hopefully now will be able to afford.

I am also sure that he will pass on his enthusiasm, character, positivity and love of the sport to all of his pupils. It will be great for the sport to see lots of little PJs coming through the ranks.

I was so hoping he would get some sponsors or even fans contributing to his funding link🥲

That's really too bad. I thought they had a lot of promise. This explains why I didn't see them at regionals or Challenge this year.

Many countries, even the big ones, don't fund their skaters. It often means those with the most cash get father, even with lesser skills, Sad bit true

Julia Wagret and Pierre Souquet-Basiege (French ice dance team) have split.
They both intend to continue, and hope to find new partners. Both posted messages on their respective Instagram pages thanking and sending best wishes to each other, so it appears to have been an amicable split.
