did anybody watch the 1 hour SOI special on ABC this afternoon? I missed most of it... i caught todd's jester number and sasha's anytime anywhere. I have to say that I like her older version of this number better (she skated to this beautiful song in 2000/2001 fo SOI). Maybe it is just the dress. (pic below)

beauiful skating as always but somting seems off. Did they show her "imagine" program? who else did they show?

Sasha's first number was pretty cool. She was a dancer (in ballet slippers, not skates), and she posed and did various flexibility tricks while being lifted and carried over the ice by Patrice Lauzon, John Zimmerman, and Michael Weiss.

I liked Ilia Kulik's skate the best, of what they showed. They also showed Ina and Zimmerman, Shen and Zhou, and Weiss, besides Todd, plus little snippets of many others. Actually, the whole program was a big infomercial for, "come and see the show live."

I knew that Sasha was flexible but the flexiblity she showed in her first number was incredible. I thought the number was edgy and very well done.
S/Z skated to a very sexy, jazzy number something different for them and a nice change. Kulik was fantastic as usual. More talking than skating and the telecast was only 1 hour.

Yes I watched. Sasha hosted it. They showed quite a few numbers from this years show. I thought it was well done. I went to opening night in Lake Placid, but seeing this just reminded me of how good it was. I can't wait to see it again!!:clap:

I really enjoyed the telecast, and it succeeded in making me want to go see the show "live and in color."

Liked Todd's Look on the Bright Side of Life number, and both Sasha's programs (the sort-of Cirque-like flexibility # and her final #), Ilia's, Ina and Zimmerman, and Shen and Zhao (guess that was pretty much everybody shown -- I even liked Weiss's program).

I thought I was watching The Sasha Cohen Show with guests from Stars on Ice.
She's been around now for a long time and it shows in her performances which are very stabile(sp). I found the number standing on a drum doing those acrobatic tricks from the Balance Beam in Gymnastics kind of fun. She hasn't forgotten them.

Ilia Kulic could have been better but maybe that Johnny Weir type of music is not for him. Why all the chenee turns? I was hoping he would repeat the Too Darn Hot number which was priceless.

Was I in the kitchen broiling steaks and missed so many others. Were there any group numbers other than the Sasha Trio? What made SOI more interesting than COI was their group numbers. Didn't see any.

One question for the Ladies: Is John Zimmerman still the best looking guy in figue skating?

I/Z, S/Z, and Weiss were all on early in the broadcast, by the 20-minute mark, I'd guess. They didn't show any group numbers except for HYPING this year's group number with a snippet.

I thought Sasha's delivery varied wildly in the little intro and "here's what's coming up" soundbytes. In some she sounded good, in others very amateurish with poor enunciation. Does make me wonder how she fared with her acting part in the horse film.

Oh, and as for John Z? You betcha, or at least still in the top 3!

I'm just exasperated. All that talk and little skating. And only one hour. I liked all the numbers, what few there were. I'm surprised no one else has complained about all the time taken up by the talking. Actually, I am kind of angry!!!

I think it was not really supposed to be a show, just a lttle tease to try to get you to come and see the real show live. IIRC the only advertisements were for SOI itself and for Smuckers (the SOI tour sponsor).

I think it was one of those deals where the producer of the show buys the time directly from the TV network and uses it to advertise their product.

in the more recent years SOI has gone from 2 hours prime time to 1 hour 'infomercial' style in the middle of the day or way late at night

it's a way for them to drum up interest without giving much if anything away so that people don't stay home because they've seen it from the comfort of their living room...

considering pro skating/show skating seems to be back where it was when ice capades was dying and COI wasn't all that hot it's a good idea IMHO

it just sucks that show skating is dying...

***Sure it seemed that way, but Sasha is the headliner or this years show.

****They did show bits of a Rock Band group # that closes the first half of the show...great costumes in that number..lot's of 80's rock music too.

***     Why yes he is as a matter of fact!!!!! :chorus:

EXACTLY-
The entire SOI is probably about 1-1/2 hrs. We probably saw about 20 minutes of actual performances. I loved Shen & Zhao, Todd's comedy routine, and believe that Kyoko & John are better now than when they competed as amateurs. Their opening routine reminded me of Brasseur & Eisler, "head-banger" and all! Commercials are a fact-of-life, but the infomercials, in order to promite the tour, took too much precious time away from the skating performances. For this reason, put me in the "disappointed" column.

I forgot that it was on yesterday. I just wanted to Shen/Zhao's new program though so hopefully I can find it on You Tube. I'll wait and see the rest live. :)

Grgranny, I was elated with the hour show. It was 200% better than in the last few years when Scott Hamilton talked, and talked and talked. At least they showed several of the performances, which they didn't in the last few years.

I think Sasha is such a good addition to the SOI cast. Loved her numbers!!!

I'm just sad they are not coming to my home state.

I feel that they should show at least one of the fun group numbers. I've always felt that the interaction on the ice by the skaters is a big draw for buying a ticket. If they don't show it on TV how is the general public (who go for the entertainment factor rather than because they are faithful fans) going to know that this show is more than just skaters performing their numbers (ala COI)?

That throw John Zimmerman did was incredible! How did they ever pull off such a thing?

Sasha Cohen is so flexible. Her gymnastic training still shows. And she can move like a dolphin! ;)

I just watched Shen and Zhao's number.:love: It's a departure for them and I love it! They look gorgeous and they're having such a good time out there. I can't wait to see it live! (and of course, in color ;) )

ITA agree with those that complain that this was little more than a shlock infomercial. Blah, blah, blah, too much blabbering. I don't particularly enjoy show skating anyway, but was looking forward to watching SOI with an open mind. Sheesh- just goes to show how desperate things have become when they are trying to pass this off as "live and in color" entertainment.
