US Olympic Team Announced

Worlds Team not named in this press release, maybe that is coming shortly.

Jr. Worlds Men and Womens singles will be selected after the Camp Jan 31-Feb 1.

Malinin should just go skate for Uzkekistan if this is how the US federation is going to treat him.
Well I don’t think he should sign his transfer papers just yet. Jason Brown spent four hours in a car ( unmasked I have a feeling ) with a woman who just tested positive positive for Covid

there is a good chance that one of those three will not be able to skate in Beijing and this young man will be on the team.

Personally I would’ve dropped Zhou because he has proved that when he gets really important he can totally bomb

They should all be ready. Omicron is still out there...

Tracy tested positive, so who knows about Jason in the next little while. Other skaters still have to navigate getting through the omicron wave as well.

I'm the definition of mixed feelings right now. Jason earned it with his consistency this season; Ilia is SO promising and I would have understood having him on the team too.

I hope Jason delivers what he's capable of with his top notch programs at the Olympics because if he does, he's very much in the fight for a top placement. And I hope this lights the biggest, brightest fire under Ilia to come out focused, confident, and guns blazing at every opportunity.

OMG... i just hallucinated a Tonya Harding moment but instead of a lead pipe, the weapon was a big sneeze (okay i am just kidding.. don't kill me)

Not happy. I understand the arguments both ways, but my god, I'm mad that someone with multiple quads was left off the team for someone who struggles with doing one and someone who struggles to rotate his quads. Not to mention, I don't like the optics of leaving off the skater who didn't fall of the top four.

It was the most logical decision. You're not gonna send someone who skated a clean 6 quad competition only once and only managed to be 12 points above someone like Jason with mistakes. Jason who also has scored more than them internationally all the damn season and beyond. Jason who has the GOE and PCS nationally and internationally and the reputation. Jason who beats cleanish quad jumpers time and time and time again internationally. Jason who has never had a placement lower than 10th in his life. Jason who gets over 250 internationally even when he messes triples and spins. It's obvious why they chose Jason and it was the correct decision strategically.

Thank you for posting this. USFSA never said they would take the top three from nationals - they set out their selection criteria and they used long histories of good skating to select the team.

Honestly, as a longtime viewer of gymnastics, this type of team selection is common and something I'm actually glad to see more of in skating as it rewards skaters who consistently put in good performances vs one great skate at Nationals.

some might argue that Malinin could have been sent with Chen and Brown...

Malinin should be preparing for Olympics because he earned his Olympic berth outright and should’ve been named to the team, not because of fears of someone who was named caught the virus. There was no valid reason, none to leave him off the team after how he performed in a high pressure situation. Hand wringing over “what-ifs” aren’t valid reasons.
