2022 Olympics Team Event Day1: Pairs Short Program

Yes, but if USA places third which is likely then it’s a dead heat.
That's a thought...what if they end up with two teams on the the same score at the end? Figure skating doesn't really do ties, so I guess they'd look at scores or something?

Well, it is turning out to be a bit of a battle for Russia for gold. I didn’t expect USA to win the ice dance portion over the Russians. The Americans are locking it down now for at least a silver medal. Still 95% chance of Russia winning gold. But, no longer a lock. It will be interesting to see RUS versus China in this SP pairs event. The two best teams go head to head. I love both teams and I’m not sure who to root for in the individual even. If CHN goes for quad twist, I might root for them for taking in that risk.

Japan is all by itself for bronze medal. I’m surprised Italy is ahead of them so far. But, with pairs and ladies to go, Japan should distance and separate itself from the rest of the pack. This pairs event is critical for them though. CHN is looking like their biggest threat.

The defending champions, Canada is having a bad event so far. I thought the worse they could be at this point is 7th and that is exactly where they are at. No Keegan and the ice dance result was disappointing. They moved up from 8th to 7th though. Canada is going to have to beat Georgia and not get passed by CZE in this pairs event to move to 6th place. It is critical for them to also beat Italy in this event and close the gap of 4 points to 1 or 2, at least, so by the time they get to the ladies event, they have a chance to surpass ITA for 5th place to squeak it into the free skate portion, which, should be their goal at this point.

I had to move to Swedish Eurosport with Willberg & Hogner. I love Eurosport Chris, but that woman's voice was piercing my ears...

Just woke up. I'm glad to have missed the apparently overscored skates of the men and G/P being scored so low.

If USA places 3rd here and Russia is only 2nd, then USA is 100% in it for the Team Gold and absolutely should be slotting Nathan Chen into Long Program if they have any sense of responsibility and sportsmanship whatsoever.

Winning both segments of Men's and Dance means USA would win the tiebreaker over Russia.

The interesting thing is, what will Russia do if it stays that close. They can´t afford to sub in Davis/Smolkin. And I don´t know if Nikita´s back is fit enough to do 4 skates in Beijing.

Well, That federation has made its (awful) choices, So good luck!
I'm sure they'll be fine though, unless they have a disaster in pairs or something
