A doping test showing the presence of a banned substance was taken by Kamila Valieva in December. This was reported to "Championship" by a source familiar with the situation.

"Valieva's doping test showed the presence of a banned substance in the microdose. At the same time, it is proven that this substance does not improve athletic performance" the source told Championship.

This forum dedicated to figure skating - it is assumed that there are not random people here, but figure skating fans. If you are a figure skating fan and are adequate, you understand that Valieva did not need doping. Consequently, a reasonable, adequate fan will patiently wait for official explanation of this strange situation.

Maybe they took the risk because it isn't performance enhancing and that she's under 16.

I don't know if you guys follow much nordic skiing, but Therese Johaug, a gold medalist in Beijing, was tested positive some years ago. The reason was told to be lip balm. She was banned for competitions for 13 months.

In her case, the ingredients list for the balm (designed to help heal sunburned lips) on the packaging quite clearly showed it contained a substance banned by WADA and it was missed by both her and the team doctor who gave it to her. (IIRC, that team doctor was fired) There was also the case of a swimmer Fred Bousquet who ended up with a doping positive because he had just assumed the hemorrhoid cream he bought regularly in France had the same formula when he bought it in Italy when it did not.

IMO it's those kinds of doping cases where a punishment is merited because you always need to read the label and know what goes into your body but they should not cause the end of a career over that punishment.

PED is Performance Enhancing Drug. Meldonium was a heart medication used in the last decade because it increases the flow of blood to the heart. I'm sure the chemist have "new and improved" PEDs now.

Yes, there are tests taking place outside the competitions. Athletes receive announcements when they should be available for controls.
