UGH bittersweet, seeing Nathan take Yuzuru's spot in the podium seats.

The Japanese skaters were all so very polite when they were clapping for Chen before his scores were announced. They represent their country well.

Disappointing last group aside from Jason and Junhwan when it comes to performance. I love Shoma, but he didn't perform that well today. I found Yuma excellent in the short program but not convincing this time around. Morisi was less interesting than any program I can remember from him. And Nathan Chen? Ugh. Poor choreography. Did he just finish the program after the music? Because I think he did.

Anyway. I hope you all don't have too many emotional scars or tears from the event.

Some of my overall takeaways from the whole event (I didn't see each program, mind you):

*Yuzuru's actual skating and connection to the music in the short were better for me than many of his other performances. I also appreciated his long program more than I had expected.
*Yuma can be really charming, and we know he has great jumps.
*Matteo Rizzo's short program was a classic for me.
*Junhwan is a delight to watch.
*How interesting that Jason was but one rotation from 4th place. I gasped when he doubled the triple of his combo.
*Brendan Kerry should be proud of his efforts. I only caught the long program, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Just ..have to ..say... who else became the Olympic champion ...while studying to be a doctor at Yale? I mean.... Nathan is stellar in whatever way you decide to define him and deserves the best. FWIW: he's stated he can hardly wait to get back to the library at Yale. Plus plays classical piano. In case you're concerned about anyone being solo / one / dimensional . Speaking as a late bloomer getting my BA years after others - it ain't easy.

Congrats to Nathan for his great skating accomplishments. But Tara and Johnny are getting really grating.

I didn't hear any commentary on Peacock, just had to figure out what was going on myself.

Well while it was not quite as stellar as the short program, it was still a magical night of skating. And it was a genuine pleasure to share it with the people on this board. Twas a real treat for me, since most of my family and friends are the epitome of Beyond Casual Skating Fans. Wayyyyyyy beyond.

I think I saw Nathan performed much better before, but that was still pretty exciting performance and I m very glad that he changed his costume.
Yuma was just a joy to watch, Sholero was messy,
Jun was so beautiful except that hard fall on the toe and the step out. Like I thought that Jurandot was boring, but that was just dreamy. Though I think the cameramen could have filmed the ina bauer better.

All in all it was like I expected it, the opposite of the short program. Who would have thought after the short program that only 2 men will score over 300? A lot of pressure there. Hanyu could have won bronze with a smart program choice, but well. Most important is that the Olympic champion is undisputed and totally deserved it after being almost undefeated in 4 years. Now he has achieved what he always wanted, but I hope that he will find the motivation to go for another 4 years. An amazing athlete with incredible nerves and great discipline. First time that I stayed awake until 7 am. But I felt more pressure in front of the tv than Nathan there.

Does anyone know what Jasons plans are?

He said he's not decided yet. Said he could go two more seasons based on his physical state. He also said he doesn't want to retire before landing some quads some time ago. Until now, he's landed only one ratified. But he said he doesn't know yet if he'll retire after this season leaving the possibility of retirement open. But who knows.
