For Zhang, No better model

She's so adorable:love: "Toffee Lutz"
Interesting comments from Kwan, hoply will give Caroline insight into maintaining her athletic abilities.
Thanks for the great article.

Is it me, or has Kwan quasi-join Zhang's training personnel as informal adviser?

I'm not 100% sure about this but I seem to remember reading that Michelle is mentoring Caroline through the usfsa mentor program which was recently started.

In much the same way that Brian Boitano is working with Ryan Bradley I believe.

Thank you for the cute article. It was a fun read. I really enjoy her skating.
I'm real anxious to see her skate at nationals:agree:

"But I tell her that when you do jumps, you have to really jump," Kwan said.
Good advice!

There was an interview with Caroline a year ago where she talked about the first time she met Michelle. She was training at Michelle's rink and Michelle came in and gave her some pointers.

Caroline said afterwards that she didn't hear a word Michelle said, because all she could think about was, "This is Michelle Kwan! She's talking to me!"

That was an interesting read, thanks!

That puppy used to be named just "Toffee", now it's "Toffee Lutz" -- guess that shows what she's thinking about these days (and a very good thing!).

The front page photo on icenetwork-com advertising US National's has a photo of Kimmie flanked by Caroline & Mirai, and the caption is that Kimmie's main challengers will be C & M -- failing to mention that this was in fact the photo Caroline & Mirai eagerly got from their idol last year along with an autograph.

Pretty impressive when the media turns around the next year and uses the same photo in this way, eh? ;)

thanks so much for posting this. Great article! wow! caroline is quite the student. I would be on coudl nine if she won nationals.

Michelle is right on about Caroline needing more strength on her jumps. There is a fitness center at Michelle's rink and I've heard that Caroline is (occasionally) doing strength training there with a personal trainer.

I'm still skeptical about weight training. However, if Caroline can add strength without adding mass like Yu-Na, there's little doubt about that improving her skating.

mass like Yu-Na?? I always thought that Yu-na looked very slim and willowy!

Huh? If anything Yu-na is too thin.

There are two ways to interpret comparisons like that, and it all depends on the comma.

1) If Caroline can add strength, without adding mass like Yu-Na....

2) If Caroline can add strength without adding mass, like Yu-Na....

Comma position will indicate that Yu-Na is, or is not, adding mass.

( Grammar lesson over. )

Ah, you didn't see Yu-Na on ESPN360 with a 4:3 video aspect ratio that was probably intended to be seen as 16:9 (widescreen). That scrunched the ladies up/made them look even thinner than usual. Kimmie looked thin, Caroline skinny, and Yu-Na disappeared altogether when she was facing sideways to the camera. ;)
