2022 Worlds Pre-Game Chat

@anonymoose_au … do you know why Brendan won’t be at Worlds? Is it about the number of AU spots? No kidding, I was really looking forward to seeing him. 😥
His skating has a very special quality that just makes you want to keep watching.
Well he did have an injury that made the 4CCs very difficult for him, not sure if it was better by the Olympics.

Either way I guess he chose to sit this Worlds out, he probably needs the break!

Although I'd have thought another Aussie man might want the opportunity, or are the minimums for 4CC less than the ones for Worlds? If so maybe none of them got the necessary scores.

It is sad though, I love watching Brendan too!

On the upside we have a pairs team who I really enjoyed seeing at one of the JGPs.

Brendan trains in Russia. Traveling out of there is a huge problem.

BTW, Brendan has the TES minimums for Worlds: he got them at both 4CC and Olympics

Brendan is, fortunately, back here in Australia :) he just hosted a skating clinic with his mother down in Adelaide.

I was wondering about James Min and the Dodds brothers in terms of minimums for Worlds. I'm kinda too lazy to look them up but I probably should to figure out the answer!

you're welcome, you can count on me for a good laugh, i'm stupid, everyone knows it
please. You up for a typo contest?

The typos that really kill me are the ones where you have an actual/real/correct word -- but NOT the word that belongs in the sentence. Your "eatable" is a perfect example, right? I learned the hard way that spell check is a fickle friend. There's no substitute for human eyes, preferably 2 pairs. And yeesh, don't get me started about autocorrect on my phone! 😵‍💫

OK, no more :ot: posts for me today...

I’m excited for Worlds! This is an opportunity for some breakthroughs.

I’m hoping Kaori can pull an Osmond with an Olympic bronze followed by a World Championship title. She went from a 4th place favourite to favourite to win the title. Also, this is a chance for others like Wakaba, Young, Alysa and Leona to make it to the podium. I hope they are practicing those 3A’s!

Also, for pairs, the field also got much weaker. I think it is the Japanese versus American teams for gold. Can Canada surprise?

My Coaching friend in San Fran says Alysa Is only skating there and working with Philip her Pole Harness coach. She is not going back to CS.

Alysa has a great time by playing bowling, hanging out with friends and going to Mitski concert in CA (instagram posts). She doesn't seem care about World at all. Retiring?

Is Jason next in line should Nathan decide not to go to Worlds. I'm still in the Nathan will be skipping Worlds and possibly retire and focus on finishing college camp. He is at the TOP of the Mountain and he should stay up there and enjoy the view.
Yes. Jason is first alternate, Camden is 2nd, Jimmy is 3rd

Why do the women zombies always have to wear shapeless shifts and house shoes?

Anyway, thanks, I really enjoyed the laugh :laugh2::laugh::dbana::dbana::dbana:

Hopefully, she's just taking some time to decompress after the Olympics. I can't imagine she'd retire at such a young age. IMO, she'll be leading the US ladies into the next quad

You guys are scaring me again. IF the controlled ISU or other entities let or not let the Worlds happen is still a big question mark, but the fact that Russia and China had a major conference after opening cerimonies tells me that China pulling may mean a number of things... or only two things. (China of course has pulled out of other skating events) One, solidarity with the Russia, which is their choice..fine.....and two, the "Chinese Taipei" Question.
I personally hope the comp goes forth. But as many have said many post down, there are bigger things afoot to worry about and they are not gonna go away in a week or a month nor many months, IMHO. And, again IMHO, years. Remember how we were all talking about ways of saving the covid worlds? The recent GPF? Seems trivial now, doesnt it? This is a whole new world....and in my lifetime, I have seen this world before and I dont like what I am seeing now.....
But I want very much to see some very good skating and if this worlds does happen, I think its gonna be lots of fun. And after (hopefully) covid and other events, we need it.

Hanging out with friends isn't mutually exclusive to training. This content isn't new either, Alysa has always posted pictures with friends. And Nathan has been all over the country doing interviews, game shows, press events, etc. and is still finding a way to go to Worlds. I wouldn't hop on the retirement train just from a few posts of a teenager being a teenager.

Ugh.. I hate speculation like this. Is an athlete supposed to be in the training ground 7 days a week ? Surely not, esp not when they just have the biggest stage on their live. The preparation, the stress, the pressure, the many argument with coaches and parents, the body changed after puberty, or even the injuries that we dont even know about. They would get burned out quickly if you dont let them having fun occasionally. Why do you think Yuna Kim for the longest time never touch the Ice after Sochi ? She was burned out, badly.

She is young, but I would not be surprised if she retires. She seems to be struggling since she has grown and I'm not really seeing a Gold Medalist at this point.
