Anastasiia Gubanova

It was so great to see her at Olympics (although PCS were a complete joke, I couldn't believe they put her behind Mariah and Alyssa).
It's the story of her career going back five years with her PCS scores with all her Artistry and musicality and beautiful presentation she gets crap PCS scores. Although everyone keeps telling me that Nastyas PCS scores will rise next season. I will believe it when I see it. And giving Alysa higher PCS marks than Nastya at the Olympics is very confusing. Higher technical mark for Alysa okay but higher PCS than Nastyas? No.

Anastasia did very well at the Olympics and deserved higher than 11th Place. But the competition between 5 and 15 wasl incredible and so many skaters did well it was great to see. I also thought Nastya did a little better than Mariah combining both programs but it was close and Mariah has been around for five or six years or so I'm not surprised she got the edge in PCS and overall score. Bell's free skate is a beauty and I loved seeing her and Nastya go back to back with awesome free skates.

I just keep rewatching her Olympic free skate over and over again 🤓
I really wish Nastyas three fabulous skates at the Olympics were on YouTube or someplace I could watch it. All Things Considered I think she did the best she possibly could at the Olympics. Representing Georgia has saved this girl's career. She has proven to the world that she is a world-class figure skater. Now we just have to see how much better she can get in the next year or two. But she will need some help with fair scoring from the judges. So far they pinch her on everything.

Thanks. Its an amazing free skate. This is close to her R & J level. I hope Nastya keeps this free skate for next season. The music the skating and the dress are really beautiful. And Nastya did two 3 - 3's in this free skate. Not all the top ladies do that.

Will she go to worlds representing Georgia? I hope so if her mind is right Nastya may be upset the Russians are banned from this worlds.

She is on the official entry list for worlds so I think (hope) we will see her there.
I hope so too but she lives and trains in Russia and I don't know if that's going to be a problem getting out of the country and going to France for worlds. I am hoping that having a passport from the Republic of Georgia helps her get to Worlds. Nastya has some real momentum for the first time in her career. I would like to see that continue and carry into next season where the judges would show her some more respect.

Olympics really brought her to forefront like never before. Her skating is exquisite and I admire her tenacity, her faith in herself, her dignity and quiet strength and demeanor..
If Nastya read your beautiful post it would probably bring her to tears. So well said elbkup. I never knew Nastya had such tenacity and faith and quiet strength. But I do know she is an exquisite skater and thrilled she got the show that at the Olympics. She struggles to score 200 points and she cannot score 240 to 260 points like Anna does but I bet Nastyas wonderful skates at the Olympics mean just as much to her as olympic champion Anna's wonderful skates mean to her. :)

Nastya has said she quit skating 3 times in recent years. Now look at her. Nastya is a world class skater and talent for sure. I hope she goes to worlds and skates well but I don't know what to expect or you can even get out of Russia to travel to France and represent Georgia.

She is wonderful.. I followed long before I posted any comment in these pages because she is the sort of skater that drew me as a fan.. much of what I wrote about her personality is a guess but she seems to certainly have the strength of her convictions. I am looking forward to seeing her at Worlds; she seems to be blossoming in Georgia… and she seems determined to carve out a satisfying career.. who could fail to respect that 🙃

I think Nastya is kind of an old-school type of Lady figure skater. A beautiful gentle and elegant skater. I kind of hope she keeps these two really good programs for next season. I would certainly love to see her keep the free skate. Nastya does two 3 - 3s in her free skate and not all the ladies do that so I would like to see her get rewarded more technically for that.

She certainly has saved her career this year and she's only 19. Sure thats old in Russian ladies figure skating but look at what skaters like Bradie and Mariah and Liza have done in their 20s. Hopefully Anastasia can follow the same path.

Actually I think she should have placed above Mariah at Olympics tho I love both skaters. She is old school .. probably why I like her and I agree about the programs .. love them both. She probably will do something very different in future ..

Mariah got the respect even though she did not do a 3 - 3 in her free skate and nastya did two and was ahead of her after the short skate. But Mariah's PCS scores were clearly higher than Nastyas small advantage in TES. I definitely think they're PCS score should be about the same and Nastya has a slight Advantage technically especially with the two three threes. Figure skating is not necessarily Fair. That's said Mariah's free skate is wonderful and so is Nastyas.

To me to see Mariah's super beautiful free skate followed by Nastyas super beautiful free skate was every bit as thrilling for me as seeing Sasha with the most incredible Olympic free skate ever for a lady followed by Anna with the greatest free skate ever for a lady at the Olympics. The quality of the skating was sensational in the last two groups and with all they've had to put up with wearing a mask and living in a bubble and dealing with coronavirus and missed competitions and mssed practices for the last two years it's just incredible that they went out and absolutely killed it when it counted most.

Anastasia may do something different program wise in the future but if she keeps these two programs for next season and makes some small changes hopefully her scores will go up when she skates clean. But she also skates for a small federation now and most judges probably see her as Russian and not Georgian. That said the weakest of nastyas skating skills and most ladies is the transitions her transition scores are usually in the sevens and when they are consistently in that range that won't bump the other skating skills scores like composition presentation skating skills and performance. If she can improve her transition score by up to half a point that should bump up all her other skating skills scores. Then she will be even more competitive with the top ladies than she already is.

Scott12 sorry I forgot to hit reply duh!!
I agree .. lack of a 3-3 is a handicap in Mariah’s case.. she does pull out all the stops in pcs however but I think tes is so important for international competitions
My heart broke for Anna after her win seeing her all alone in the kiss & cry! So much dignity in one so young
But Sasha deserved so much more than she came away with .. those quads are thrilling and she works so hard. Adrenaline was extremely high after the competition and we will not even mention Kamila who is without a doubt the full package though not my absolute favorite. Who would have ever guessed the outcome! Unreal!! Too, I missed Kostornaia terribly but I understand fully why she was not there. She will always have my ❤️ 🙂

Who finished 10th at the Olympics was decided by PCS not TES. I think the judges had Mariah ahead by about 3 points in PCS in the short program even though she fell and then about 4 points ahead of Nastia in the free skate with PCS. It's just hard for Nastia to overcome that PCS deficit if she only has a slight advantage in TES. The good news is Nastia showed her skating skills to be close or equal to Mariah's at the Olympics and I think that could help Nastia next season. I mean when you skate a free skate like Anastasia did so beautifully with such excellent skating and performance and composition it's got to be disappointing to see PCS in the range of 65 instead of 69 or 70.

I'm like Anastasia I don't want other skaters to get their scores lowered I want Anastasias scores to rise all across-the-board when she deserves it. She is legitimately the only world class skater I have ever followed who has never been over scored.

Interesting you mention Sasha and Anna and Kamila because Nastia got to train with all 3 of them for 3 or 4 weeks for weeks in the training camp in Siberia and then when they got to the Olympics in Beijing. That must have been a great experience for her. I wish Sasha's experience was better she had the all time incredible Olympic frees skate for the ladies only top by Anna's greatest free skate ever for the ladies of the Olympics. We can debate who should have won the gold and it could have gone either way either would have been deserving. Poor KV was put through so much. That had to bother her and then Anna only being 2 points behind her after the SP had to be very worrisome too. Because Kamilla was usually 10 to 12 points ahead after the SP and it was basically over. I also Think skating last after Sasha kaori and Anna killed it may have had some negative effect on her. I mean if Alina had skated last instead of 2nd to last 4 years ago she might not be Olympic champion. The pressure is that great for who skates last.

I cut sasha some slack because she was left out of the team event and that had to annoy her and she's coming off a broken foot and landed 5 quads with hands over her head. The emotion just spilled out of her. It's unbelievable that 1 camp can have so many great skaters in one discipline I've never seen anything like it and I think that adds to the pressure. Anna was just being Anna so consistent on and off the ice. I call her captain clutch. She never makes a fuss or causes problems.

Hopefully Anastasia training with these Russian phenoms for about a month has made her a better skater and competitor. :)It must have been a very exciting month or so for NG.

Anastasia is training with the Georgia team in Italy preparing for worlds.

Worlds will be another golden opportunity for Nastia to to continue to establish herself as a world class figure skater and build on things for next season when hopefully she won't be skating in the 1st and 2nd group for the short program.

Hmmm, hopefully judges won't do much politicking... not that they already aren't...

When I saw her recent Insta posts from Italy it made me very ...very :yahoo: HAPPY :yahoo:
She was eating an ice cream cone in one picture. :) but I'm not sure she would be allowed to get away with that at a TT training camp. ;) It's so nice to see Nastya enjoying herself. She's a beautiful skater and she can bring joy to the troubled world in her own way on the ice.

On a serious note do you think Nastya should dye her hair blond so she gets more PCS respect like blondies Loena and Mariah receive? ;)

It's hard to say with the judges because it always seems like politics with anastasiia especially when she skatessvflawlesdy only to get pinched big time on her PCS scores in particular. No one is expecting Nastya to be getting Anna like PCS scores of 37 in the short program and 76 in the free state. But Nastyas PCS scores should certainly be higher then the 29 or 30 she usually receives in the SP and the 62 to 65 points she receives in the free skate for PCS.

Getting low-balled constantly on her PCS scores happened to Nastya in juniors and seniors representing Russia and now it's happening to her as a senior representing Georgia. Why is something no one has been able to figure out. It's not fair. People keep telling me her PCS scores will rise in the coming years as the judges learn to accept her as a world-class skater and that it takes time to build up your PCS scores. But if we're here a year from now and the same thing is still happening with her PCS scores then it will never change. Anastasiia is proving herself as a world-class skater. It's time for the judges to take notice.

So sorry to see Nastia in 14th place after the SP at her 1st worlds. This was very unexpected after she was so good at the Olympics. I do wonder if she's tired from all the traveling and practices and competitions. It might be wearing her down. She also only skated in one tournament last season last year and had not been out of Russia to compete in 3 years so she lost her world rankiing completely. Just another reason for me to hate the Rusfed.

I also wonder if the pressure to finish in the top 10 at worlds to get 2 spots for Georgia next season is affecting her.

I thought Nastia would be skating in the 2nd group for sure how in the world did she end up in the 1st group skating 3rd? PCS under 30 of course.. :( Worlds is a much weaker field than at the Olympics without Yelim Kim and 3 great Russinas. Did they have a draw or something?

Good luck to Anastasia in the free skate. She will need a high level free skate with no major mistakes in order just to get 195 points overall. That might not be good enough for her to make the top 10 and get 2 spots for Georgia. I hope she's not skating in the 1st group again that would doom her.
