Senior Ladies SP

:clap:Yea Mirai!!!:party2: When I read what happened with her SP I let out a scream, good thing noone was around, Im sure they probably heard me around the world:rofl: Now the tough thing is not telling my family and boyfriend how the results ended up so we can all watch it on tv together and "watch it as it takes place";)

My boyfriend has been saying from the start that Mirai would win this thing, and Ive been telling him, next year would be her year to shine as this year they'd hold her down for Kimmie, Emily & Caroline who've had more exposure. Guess I was wrong(thankfully) but I know I'll have to hear about that for awhile:p:laugh:

My family will be through the roof for Mirai. She is such a wonderful skater and wonderfully sweet girl. My boyfriend & I were at her good luck party/fundraiser @ the Pasadena rink a few weeks ago, which was fun, and she was looking spot on then as she skated for everone. I hope she does as well in the LP which I just adore:love: and Ive been reading several comments about her smile, and yes you are right it can light up a room:biggrin: You go girl!!

I am also thrilled for Rachel & Ashley. Way to go girls:agree:

Now onto sadder moments....I am soooooo bummed for Caroline:cry: Poor thing. I was really hoping she wouldnt let all of the press and expectations get to her. How devestating. I figured she'd be the top SP if not top 2. What a shame I really hope she can pull up in the LP because she really is a wonderful skater, she has sooo many stunning moments, like Sasha Cohen for me. Come on Caroline you can do it!!

Bebe and Alissa....I dont know what to say............I hope they can pull something from somewhere and do well in the LP. I am huge fans of thiers and it breaks my heart  thankfully Bebe is in the top 6 and Alissa is in the top 10, hopefully they can forget about the pressure and skate cleanly and move up the ranks

I do think the skate order makes a difference in the PCS scores. I am happy for Mirai. she did rock the house. But, 70+ is ridiculous. YuNa's highest score was 71, Mao in the 60+. there is no way that Mirai can match their PCS scores. Sorry I love Mirai but she can't be at their level yet.

Mao received a 72.92 in the short program at the Japanese Nationals. National scores are always inflated.

I predict Mirai's pcs will rise a lot more quickly than Caroline's. She's not going to need more than two senior events to pay her due, just like Mao and Yu-na. Unlike Caroline, Mirai does not lack anything compared to likes of Mao and Yu-na. For Caroline, I'd say her speed, which is probably the only thing she lacks, is killing her pcs. I can totally see Mirai beating Yu-na next year, and this is coming from a huge Yu-na fan.

Maybe, it's possible. But Mirai has a tendency to underrotate her jumps when she's tired. In contrast, Yu-na has never been called for an underrotated jump. Maybe Mirai's problem is fixable, but that's a hudge advantage Yu-na Kim has over everyone else.

But I do think that Mirai especially if she can clean up those jumps, will be better received internationally than Caroline... They have been giving Mirai huge PC scores in juniors, and it's richly deserved she has wonderful basics.

Since Mirai had her first 3-3 attempt ratified, I wouldn't worry about that. I would rather worry about the further growth left to do. It didn't affect Yu-na at all, so I'm hoping it wouldn't affect Mirai as well.

Yes but it's normally towards the end of the program when Mirai gets her jumps downgraded. I guess she gets tired and underrotates. There has only been one occassion where Mirai hasn't had a downgraded jump and that was at Junior Worlds last year. And she had several downgraded in several programs this year. (4 out of 5 of her competitions she had more than one jump downgraded in the long) So it is an issue with Mirai, and it's something that needs to be corrected.

All I'm saying is that Yu-na's jumps are much more solid. As the commentators at the GPF were saying about Yu-na. There's no issue with Yu-na about edge calls and underrotated jumps.

wow, did things turn out really strange in this one or what. I don't even know what to think for tomorrow's FS now.

I almost don't know whether to be excited or bored that there is such a big gap between the top 3 and the others. Does the rest of the pack have a chance at a comeback?

Well, Caroline's meltdown is disappointing, Meissner's failure to get back into shape is as well. Who is Katrina Hacker and how come no one has hyped her up yet?

i will say that I really hope that Marai can keep this good thig going and land another 3/3 in the free and win the title. She certainly is able, she just can't let the nerves sneak in now that all eyes are on her. my predictions for the LP are:

1.marai(with the skate of a lifetime)
2.ashley(another clean skate... very happy)
3.kimmie (overmarked again)
4.racheal (a downgraded 3/3)
5.Caroline(lands the 3/3 beautiful but has a fall on the final lutz)
6.alissa (moves up with PC)
7.bebe?

I do think that if Mirai can fix her underrotation issues than she can surprass Yu-na and if Mirai gets another combo double axel-triple toe or triple/triple.

Well, I look at it this way, Mirai can be the ice goddess inside the 50 United States, and Caroline can be the ice goddess everywhere else.

I recognize that name...I think Joesitz has mentioned her in the past but I could be wrong. But I still don't know who she is, per se

Perhaps, don't see that happening. Caroline did beat Mirai last year at Junior worlds when both were clean but Mirai was a completely unknown then.

Since then though Mirai has been getting huge PCS, and I don't see that changing. What's been holding Caroline back is things like speed, stroking etc. Mirai does not have these weaknesses. I remember GoldenSkate in their review of Junior worlds, praised Mirai's fast skating with quiet blades. Mirai's presentation maybe still a bit juniorish, but her basic skating isn't.

Well, Caroline's meltdown is disappointing, Meissner's failure to get back into shape is as well.

With this being Zhang's first senior nats, and the spotlight being on her more than the other up-and-comers, I can understand why she was feeling the heat. As for Meissner, hopefully that was just a slip up and she'll fight for the win. But one thing I think this event is doing so far is clearing up any suspicion that US skating is in bad shape and all these doom-and-gloom stories about how we're going downhill. We do seem to have many hopefuls that should make a mark out there when they get older.

I hate to say it but it may be time for KM to step aside if she doesn't rebound in the Free. I mean how the HECK did some of these younger ones place so far ahead of her??

Katrina Hacker won Eastern Sectionals. IIRC, she doesn't have all the jumps, but she's been posting huge scores.

Red Dog, you are right to notice that Kimmie is on a downward spiral! It also couldn't have come at a worst time, since it would really behoove her to skate at her best when so many young ladies are trying to unthrone her!

i do not know if this is just an "off" year for her, or perhaps she has past her prime. I have learned not to count this girl out though, and won't really say until next year.

Caroline needs to pull a Mao Asada, perhaps even including the tears of joy. ;)

It was mentioned that Katrina Hacker is planning on adding a 3Lz to her FS compared to her qualifying programs, which only included the 3Lo, 3S, and 3T. She may not have the difficulty of Ashley Wagner, but she has been equally consistent and skates with more maturity.

ETA: Not that I'm overlooking Kimmie's chances to win, which IMO are still good.
