Thank you for helping an old man. MujiTV worked well for the Japan Open but I got some buffering here and there....the video quality seemed very high...I did a speed check and I am still about 10 megs.....I am gonna try and reduce the quality a tad before the 3 day trial ends....

Peacock, you're making a huge mistake by not having replays of this season's skating competitions. You need to reconsider - many of us have lives outside of skating & can't watch them as they are being livestreamed. Do the right thing, and restore the opportunities to watch them on demand!

Oh, I am sure they would love to stream.....but something is stopping them. This from FB Oly/NBC comments.

If this is indeed true ( I dont have my issue yet) then this is false advertising and it needs a retraction. And a apology. And an explaination.

False advertising for goods and services not delivered as stated has penalties. But there is of course civil cases that can be generated. Class action law suits are everywhere....how much is my emotional damage worth? Is there a lawyer out there who wants one third of my claim?

Although expected, this is still extremely disappointing. I never fully appreciated how spoiled we were with Ice Network and NBC Sports Gold being able to watch events in their entirety whenever and however we wanted. So much easier than the ABC/ESPN days when we programmed a VCR or DVR to watch just limited coverage that often excluded the short programs and even one or two of the four disciplines ... not to mention fast forwarding through the seemingly endless commercials! Can't believe this is what we must resort to again to be able to watch any figure skating at all.

Although Peacock offers far more than just figure skating, the live streaming only option will certainly not help their subscription numbers. Once they see how few people are actually streaming figure skating especially the overseas competitions that will occur when most of us are sleeping or working, I cannot imagine they will be compelled to focus much on the sport online. We will also never see full event coverage of lesser events from regionals to even the Grand Prixs on over the air TV - there was never a market for that even during skating's heyday.

Are other sports available for streaming on Peacock after the fact? For example, if I missed last week's NBC Sunday Night Football game, can I log into Peacock to watch it now? I ask because I am trying to gauge just how many other sports this is an issue for. Was figure skating an exception for being able to watch on demand or an exception now for no longer being able to?

I'm not sure we were spoiled. It was a product we paid for. The spoiled folk are the ones who can watch the ISU broadcasts for free.

I know the GPs were shown on ESPN, waay back when ABC had the rights. They were later shown on some subsidiary of NBC (I've lost track of how many there have been), probably not over the air, with the possible exception of Skate America. But they were definitely shown.

I don't know the answer to your question regarding other sports. I'll try to check it later.

Good one! On one hand, once an entity sells the broadcast rights without stipulations, they seem to not care. But what if they sold the rights WITH stipulations.....? I have rabbit ears and a DVR. I would love to purchase all those oddball channels I never watch to watch skating , for a week or a month or ?
Tomorrow I will purchase three days of Japanese TV for $3 and in December I will purchase a few weeks or a month and guess what? In both cases, I get 56 channels live and on demand for two weeks after the broadcast....what a concept. Watching TV when YOU want to see it.

I think this is seven pages of discussion based on a misunderstanding. Or ”fake news” ( God I hate that term). I just renewed my USFSA membership and this was the email I received, in part:

Our partnership with NBC Universal continues to be strong. This season, there will be 80-plus hours of figure skating on NBC and its family of networks. Television coverage will showcase the 2023 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, ISU World Championships, ISU Four Continents Championships, ISU European Championships and more. Live and on-demand streaming coverage of figure skating, synchronized skating and other competitions, will continue to be available on Peacock Premium and the U.S. Figure Skating Fan Zone.

This suggests that the events will be shown as in the past. Three other points:

1. That “text conversation” screenshotted on another site (not exactly the most reliable source for news) at the beginning of this thread is clearly a conversation with a bot, not a customer service rep. The bot was likely responding to a question about whether that specific Challenger figure skating event was going to be streamed. The bot is programmed to give only the most general responses. It is almost certain that no one was actually answering the texter’s actual questions.

2. Likewise, the tweet from USFSA appears to only be a response to the question about whether “last night’s programs” will be streamed, not, as interpreted, to mean that there would only be live events this season.

3. Copyright issues pertaining to music are almost certainly not a factor in any of this. Acquiring rights to music is a basic part of the entertainment/sports business. NBC has substantial experiences in dealing with copyright licenses and it would be a non-issue.

I totally wish you had been correct on this. Do you have other suggestions about what might be causing the lack of replays?

• there are likely different licensing agreements for a one-time stream of an event using xyz music in comparison to unlimited storage of the event to live on an app/website. My sister is an instructor with a fitness company that has an app and she's told me that they are only able to put on the newer routines of program because they don't have the licensing to stream the music that's on the older routines
• If they are looking to cut costs for cloud storage on their content having competitions that last hours which attract few viewers would be a solid place to start hitting the delete button on. The company I work for (not NBC, nor the size of NBC) goes through an annual review of our cloud storage of what needs to be kept and what can be deleted to keep our cloud storage at lower tier to save money.

I wish they would at least come to an agreement to get temporary replays allowed, like a competition being available for 1 week after competition date so that people that can't watch in real-time can watch.

Youtube TV is just a streaming service that replaces cable. There is a cloud based DVR with unlimited storage, the trick is it only lasts 7 months I think.

From what I can gather, no.

There are, however, ways to install a VPN onto a TV. For some TVs it can be complicated, others easier.

What kind of TV do you have and which VPN do you use?

If you use your laptop, you should be able to connect your laptop to your tv with an HDMI cable. We do that all the time because we don't have a smart TV, and not all of the streaming apps we use came loaded into our Blu-ray player.

It seems that you need advanced degrees in astrophysics to watch this sport in the US.

It’s like a second job. Turn this on, calibrate that, port this, wave the wire at a 42.4 degree angle.

NASA sent people to the moon with less effort.

The event at Perm did something smart for their YouTube feed. They turned the music way down on the stream. So you can barely hear it.

12 and a half hour stream and wasn’t taken down.
