The 1st of July has been the cut-off for longer than either of these girls has been alive.
Every time the age limit was moved, they simply changed the last eligible year, and they are doing the same now. It's not like the cut-off has been the 30th of July and they're now moving it forwards to the 1st of July so Kat won't be able to compete (even if RusFed themselves did something like that)

Other feds and skaters will also lose opportunities.
Japan lost Mao Shimada for 2026 olys. She will turn 17 too late in the olympic season and will be 21 by next olympics. Out of all big hopes, she has the worst luck.
That's a good point. I wonder if ISU really was aware of the fact that they condemned some skaters to be eligible for the Olympics at no earlier than 20.

So we have two Ave Maria, two Hit the Road Jack and two Elvis Presley programs by top Russian pairs. Can't wait for Nats.

They also didn't care that some pairs won't be able to compete in both categories.
This is nothing like Hit the Road Jack except in name only. I genuinely dislike the way the modern entertainment industry uses famous and successful names and titles of the past as cover to sell something entirely different.

They allowed the best junior in the world (by a big margin) miss out by 7 days. If it was a skater from another federation they would have made sure the best junior in the world doesn't lose 3 years for 7 days.
