I just finished watching ONT Sectionals. The Junior Girls was some good competition. The top four all have triple triples. The three medalists are all from the same club: The Canadian Ice Academy. I hope this competition raises their level over the next few years. Hetty Shi was upset, after leading after the SP. She scored similarly to what she did at Junior GP at 140+; The winner was Lulu Lin, who just scored just over 150, followed by Megan Woodley at 149. I thought Lulu deserved it. These two girls, I can see in the Junior GP circuit, next year 😀👏
Lulu has a wonderful 3T 3T 2T opening combo; she landed 5 triples; but, has the most potential, as she landed her 3Lz, 3F and 3Lo; she just doesn’t get much GOE
Megan has a lovely 3T 3T, she also seems to have mastered the 3S (landed 2 of them) and a 3Lo; 5 triples; she fell on the 3F and at the end of her 3S 2T 2Lo; that fall cost her the gold medal

I’m looking forward to the Senior Ladies competition tonight. Amanda versus Katherine battle for gold.
Madeline Schizas, Gabrielle Daleman, Fiona Bombardier and Lia Perriera were all exempt from competing for qualification. No Alison. She is from Ontario right? Did Alison retire? She must have 🥹

Here's how the Canadian women did in the JGP this season; each did one event:

Those are all Andrew Evans students (Lulu, especially, shows up in his Instagram stories a lot).

I was assuming the Georgian pair was going to run away with Grand Prix de France, but the short program suggests it's a lot more wide open than that. We'll see tomorrow.
 
The Ladies ONT Sectionals just ended. It wasn’t a close competition. Amanda Tobin was way too good for the rest of the competition. She started impeccable. Her first five jumping elements all consisted of a triple jump and I think all had positive GOE. Her 2A 3T was gorgeous. But, five clean triples seems like always the max for these Canadian ladies. She doubled her next jump and then singled her axel and left out her three jump combination, which makes me mad, cause she could have eulered into at least a double salchow. She won with 155 points by about 13 points over her closest rival Katherine. Not much else to say. Now, I go to watch GP France 🇫🇷 next…… hoping that the fact the Georgian team didn’t do well, means good things for Deanne 😝

Wow, seeing it like this just shows how insane POL1 was.

Yes. I was happy for Deanna and Maxime. She seemed disappointed with her program. Do you know if the second jump 2S is supposed to be 3S? This is the second time they’ve gone for double jumps and I’m not sure if it is on purpose.

It was a bad day for Mens Singles skating though… poor Wesley.
 
Also, I watched Quebec Sectionals. I had two screens on at the same time to watch Junior Ladies and Senior Ladies SP (they were live, at the same time), while watching Russian Cup and GP France on TV, not live, at the same time back to back. I’m exhausted from going back and forth between three screens. But, I know this is just temporarily and I enjoy all these competitions.

For Senior Ladies, I think Justine is exempt for winning Juniors last year and Sara-Maude is also exempt. They are both competing at Challenge Cup too. So, that might be the other reason. Anyways, Marie-Maude was the class of the field and the only one who executed a triple triple (3T 3T). The lady in second was my fave, Nour-Houda, as she had the best skating skills. These were the only two scoring just over 50. So many ladies just going for 3S and 3T jumps and mostly failing… I felt bad for the ice, at one point from all the falls and scrapes…. I can only imagine how many falls I’ll see tmrw, due to the seven jumping passes requirement.

In the Juniors field, I noticed that the mandatory 3Lo requirement forces many ladies to double their loops. If the requirement changes to flip or lutz next year, I expect many more doubles as the required jump. One thing that I like about this requirement, is that it forces the girls to practice the loops. Which, forces the level to go up higher than what I saw in the Seniors field, where the ladies mostly stuck to 3T and 3S jumps. I saw many triple loop attempts and even though they were unsuccessful, many were close. Rose Theroux was the favourite. She is the only one that attempted a triple triple. But, she fell at the end of that combo, and she also fell on the triple loop. I was surprised to see her in second place. But, the rest of her program is quite good. The winner of the short program, only one 50+, was Alexa Volkova… she has the best spins of the entire field. She is my new favourite and I thought she had the best skating skills, despite only going for a 3T 2T. So, I’m rooting for her tmrw for an upset win.

pretty sure they played it safe... with the 2s... i have seen them do the 3s...

well.. @lariko will be happy to hear about Volkova.

You are correct Justine and Sara-Maude are exempt because of international competitions. Marie-Maude can jump...sometimes she is great... sometimes, it depends.. Rose is good. I like her a lot.

oh... i didn't mean in it in that way ... meant romantically suits them. They have decent speed too for newbies in pairs... I wasn't expecting them to look that great from their first event... there is something in this pair... Nic looks quite happy.
 
Glad to hear Volkova is continuing to compete. She was lucky because nobody really had any reason whatsoever to stop her. Lol, she is probably shocked a woman can lead with a triple-double in the short… I am most invested into Shiryaeva though. Liked her in competitions and I favour her school, because of their specific mission statement to be privately sponsored, not state sponsored.
