Wow, what a competition!!! I was so busy liking and retweeting and watching everything Shoma-related last night, I haven't even posted here. Congratulations Shoma and team for a well-fought first Grand Prix Final title!

Can I just say, more than the GPF gold, I'm super excited to see Shoma continuing to polish his programs! Gravity is finally skated clean, and now Aria has been adjusted to pace the elements better. The new details in the Choreo Sequence and Step Sequence!!! When he moved to that kneeling position, I swooned. And when I thought the use of his arms and hands and the connection between upper body and lower body is already challenged enough with the Step Sequence... they added more details!!! And there are still things to work on too, beyond adding that pesky third combination to the FS, the jumps in the Mea Tormenta part of the FS can be better integrated. It's so crazy, it's not like he skated badly- he skated well, the best he skated both programs this season, but the programs themselves still have higher ceilings he can reach in.

I'm just so, so proud of Shoma. He really has become such an incredible skater, competitor and person. This whole thread from his post-win press conference is great, but I love how thoughtful he is about his fellow competitors especially from Japan, who will have a short turnaround time before Nationals. Hopefully they all can have great skates and finish the year without injuries!

I was trying to find the Planned Program Content, because I was thinking the intention was to do a 4T-3T in the short ONLY, and in the free it was supposed to be 4T-2T. I don't know though.

I thought I was seeing things when he went down on one knee in the free, and I absolutely LOVED it. But I guess I didn't have Sho hallucinations. Here it is. What do y'all think?

Great photo by Verit. The Dream Team strikes again. And this time, even Manager-san is there. I love it!

Great to see them side by side. I like the original better! It is my favorite part of program and one of my favorites from any skater ever! It’s up there for me with my favorite parts of Mikhail’s White Crow. Bach’s Air is my favorite music of all time and I just felt like Shoma becomes the bow on the strings. It’s just breathtaking. Hard to say what we respond to, but I guess I liked the held positions of the original. This music is all about holding notes. Anyway, I showed the comp it to my husband (ok, made him watch it), and I couldn’t tell why it didn’t move me as much. I usually gasp at that part.

So my irrelevant opinion aside, why did he change it? Was it to add more complexity? Was it to get higher value? Was it for him to explore and grow artistically? All very valid and I love the artist he has become. If anything, there could be more done with the transition to the second piece of music.

When he was a junior, he had a similar move in his Don Juan de Marco program. Then after that, I never saw that again. I always liked it! We'll see what he does at Nationals...I'm not sure what happened to the cool ballet (?) jump that he was doing as the move leading into the second piece.

To adjust with the technical content! Some of the jumps have been re-arranged, so the program evolves to facilitate that without losing complexity. I think the changes are new (they only worked on it after NHK Trophy) so I think as time passes hopefully the movements become more integrated to the program.

I can't complain with the change, it brought me this photo- courtesy of the brilliant Joosep Martinson :love2:

that’s one of the most beautiful photos of shoma in existence. It just became my laptop background 😍

I'm so grateful and overjoyed; that was magnificent. He is so special. I'm so happy for Shoma and his team for this well deserved victory! And for us, and the rest of the world, to be gifted with this extraordinary piece of art. The 18th century had Mozart and Bach, the 19th Monet and Hokusai, the 20th Picasso and Debussy, and now, we have Shoma Uno.

Ah, basking in the glow of victory with the Dream Team! They all work hard, but the rewards are great too! Sho looks pretty wiped out, but I know he'll give it his all at the gala. Hopefully the lucky fans will be treated to Padam Padam...On the sad side, little Pam has left the Uno household. I'm sure she will miss the warm, active environment. “We did everything we could so that Pam can be happy. Make sure you’re definitely happy, okay?” Waaaa! :console: :ghug:

Interesting that you mention Hokusai; I added a silly drawing and some commentary to this obviously Hokusai-inspired card which was a gift for Shoma at Skate Canada. From left to right, it reads "Wave of Success," "Shoma Uno," and "Have a Good Season!"

Sadly, I'm not quite willing to use such superlatives to describe Shoma yet until he gets that third combo in and does the triple toe...😅 I love him very much, but there's definitely room for improvement...

Riding the wave of success is a good start, though. 😉

Watching Shoma Uno at the final, I didn’t focus at all on what he was or wasn’t doing. I was just mesmerized. i Am very happy he won for the first time, this is a huge victory, no matter what people are saying about his mistakes. He is not superhuman, and is giving his all, just like everyone else.
This is how I've always felt. He is not a machine. He just goes out and gives 120%. That's all he can do. It's one of the things that makes me like his skating even more -- he's not mechanical.

His skating is everything but mechanical: is art, music, beauty, fluidity. Shoma tells a story every time he steps on the ice. Even at the gala, even with a shaky lending and no points to score, his exhibition was overwhelming.

Now that I know how does it feel to see him live, it's like an addiction: I want more 🤩
