Dentist tomorrow

kandidy - as I said, they refused to take it out and said if I wanted it pulled I would have to go to an oral surgeon... so we went with the more expensive root canal

dentists don't come up with the cost of the crowns - they have to buy them from the labarotory that makes them. same goes for the braces, they are very expensive to make. So just because it is expensive, it doesn't make the dentist a shark who is all about the money.

no, but if they can do a cheaper procedure they should. Like in my case. If they would pull this tooth my wisdom tooth can come in and take the place of the molar. we did this with my top wisdom teeth (they broke one tooth, and another was a baby tooth that just would not come out lol) and no complaints there.

the xrays show this wisdom tooth is ready to pop out but they don't want me to lose a molar... it's very odd to me and he couldn't give me a reason he just kept saying we didn't want to lose the tooth - um, yeah, I do!

My dentist advised me to save the tooth if possible because if it was pulled I would have even a more expensive implant procedure ahead of me. Thank goodness I do have dental plans (through work and my husbands). I still had to pay $200.00 though as it was a redo. The dental surgeon did an excellent job.

The root canal will likely be successful and you do still have your tooth!

on my case I wouldn't be looking at an implant... and the wisdom tooth will cause me problems later now... so I'll still be shelling out even more money.

From what I was reading, root canal treatment and crown cover seems to be treatment of choice. Keeping the tooth is better than pulling it out in long term.
I have no idea how the dental coverage is in US, probably very expensive, but if the material of crwon is metal, it could be cover in the insurance?
In my country, we dental profession, was not that rich and probably did not get that high income like US.

it would be covered under insurance - at least partially - if I had it, which i don't...

Your inscription under your name just cracked me up....Serial Mouse Killer!!!!

Dee

Sorry , I didn't mean to frighten you. I used the serial mouse killer, since I am now doing PhD and I was doing many experiments on mouse. That's why I called myself serial mouse killer!:)

Just got a reminder card in the mail...my cleaning is May 7th...ugh....I'm already dreading it! Does anyone think it would be rude to listen to my ipod while she cleans my teeth? I just hate it when she tries to chat w/ me during a cleaning!

:rock:That is quite an idea!
I have some experiences when patient asked foot massgae during treatment or reading books. I told my patient that we are not doing spa ,sorry ooops)
It is better to listen to your doctor in case sometime he/she might said, ok please turn your head this way, or rinse your mouth.

I got stuck listening to Kenny G on the easy listening radio station... I love Kenny G's music but I SWEAR they played the same song three times in the 2 hours I was in that chair!
