A much better outing for Lolo and Nik in the free: first in the segment, third overall.

Too bad I hate Ave Maria, though theirs was a slightly different version from the one I absolutely can't stand.

their ave maria is from the musical NDP... nothing to do with the one you probably hate...
i like that they picked different songs from the usual ones

Brooke and Ben's LP. not very good... at the same time, judges were quite harsh with the negative GOE on some of these elements. Sure, they are not ready but still. I don't like this version of SOS d'un terrien en détresse. It shouldn't be sung by a woman. The whole point of the song is to have contrast between chest and head voice... Anyway... i love their costumes. I still see the immense potential to stand out with those long and elegant lines. They need to get some more mileage with this... but as of now, I wouldn't place them higher than any of our top pairs (they are behind Emma and Nic as well as Kelly Ann and Loucas)

They said that they had a minor injury and started the season a little later. It showed here, but better to have the issues now than later. There's definitely potential with this program and the short looked cute, I'm looking forward to seeing how they do it at Skate Canada.

I’d be fine with that. Would love Emma and Nic to slot into the third place.

I thought Brooke looked great in that costume. Some elements well done- the first throw really stood out for me.

There did not seem to be any connection to the music and perhaps it’s not the best choice for this team.

It’s too bad that their coach wasn’t there with them.

Any news on Daleman this season? Usually Skate Canada sends he out to a fall comp when and if the is still competing.

I'm on the fence about this program. It's not an instant hit for me and I'm a bit worried it won't make them stand out enough to move up like they aspire to. I need to watch it a few more times.

I see lots of good things in it... The one foot step sequence, the lifts, the choreo rhythmic steps, the dance spin, etc.

The one element that didn't work for me on first viewing was the step sequence.

I think the music is very well crafted too...the music cuts work out very well. There are a lot of highlights matching the bell rings. etc.

I prefer this FD to LaLa's : though they skate beautifully, their music is zzzzzz

She is competing next weekend in Ontario pre-sectionals.

I saw that but I guess I find it interesting that all she has now is sectionals and then nationals. Has Skate Canada given up on her? Or are they maybe waiting to see how she does at Sectionals.

I don't think they've given up on her. There's more completion and depth now in the women. They're the ones who won the most medals so far in the Challengers for Canada. I didn't have that in my predictions (or the men not being the ones with invalid elements in their programs, good job men!). They're making a great case that there should've been a TBD skate off for SCI and that Canada should have two spots at Worlds.

If she shows a stronger free here, I think they'll send her out. She has the short TES minimums and needs the free. But now there is more depth and a limited amount of opportunities from Skate Canada. She has to compete for those opportunities.

At her last competition, she appeared to show pain in her right lower leg midway through the FS. Finished the program but left the ice with a bit of a limp. Perhaps this is one factor in her doing only these domestic comps.

I'm the opposite, lol. I loved LaLa's FD at first sight; this not so much.

I really want to love it, though, since I am rooting for this team, and you're right, there are good elements. Sometimes dances do take a while to grow, or just grow on me. Examples would include Virtue and Moir's Moulin Rouge and Papadakis/Cizeron's Olympic winning FD. These are now two of my favourites of all time.

I have my fingers, toes and everything else crossed that Piper and Paul have two kickass programs again this season.

She has 5 domestic events, if she qualifies.

She had the qualifying August event. Which, she won

She has the qualifying event in October.
She has Sectionals in November.

If she qualifies, she has the Challenger event in December

If she qualifies, she has Nationals in January.

Also, Justine M. isn’t in the National Team, but, at her Quebec event, she scored around 170, above the Skate Canada criteria, which, allowed her to be selected to Autumn Classic, where she won the bronze medal.

I think that is what the October event this week, is all about. If athletes exceed the domestic score threshold, they get a Challenger event. So, she might get a sixth event, if she skates well in October or November. Five/Six events is a lot for Daleman.

Plus, if she medals at Nationals, she could secure a 4CC spot (7th event). 😜

Fair but I think we are hoping to see Gabby at international events :) she deserves it... any other Olympic champion and world medalist would have retired after all she's been through... yet she still trains and perseveres. I wish her some happy competition where she is proud of herself and gets a good result, so it can relieve her from some of the bad juju ...

She must still feel she is capable of doing good programs. I agree she just needs one good competition with a good short and free and she just might get her mogo back! I remember how excited she looked after her short last year at SCI. But I think that threw her and she expected too much of herself in the free.
Yes there are some other good lady skaters coming up now in Canada but I feel if Gabby can get back in shape she would even be CAN champ again. And internationally she has the best chance to place well with a good skate - as we saw at SCI last year. She just needs to lay down a few good skates to get her competition legs back.

The mention of 4CC got me curious as to how Skate Canada will handle it this season. Nationals is January 8-14. 4CC entries are due January 9, so they'll have to have the entries/substitutes before they have a senior podium.

They haven't put out any selection criteria yet, but I don't think the Cup of China entries are a coincidence since those skaters will very likely be on the podium and will now have a visa for China.
