I actually completely agree with you at the macro level, but will nevertheless continue to complain about Lajoie/Lagha not getting to go to worlds last season, and Lauriault/LeGac most likely missing out this season, lol.

But also, part of an antidote to the frustration could be an increase in significant competitions like 4CC, Euros etc. where perhaps nations could send their great skaters who will miss worlds. Thus we would have more high level competitions.
There could be a simple system of "unused spots" reallocated to the next best team not exceeding 3 entries per country. In 2022, Spain earned two spots in dance. Used only one. In that case, Lajoie-Lagha could have participated :) There is always a way to make things happen :)

Georgia and Azerbaijan didn't use 3 (1+2) spots in women. Japan didn't use two spots in pairs. Etc

On the other hand, since these countries do not fill their spots, it gives an chance to the mid tier countries to earn them the following year.
Also, it pushes developing countries whenever they have a star and get 2 or 3 spots, to bring up more skaters eligible for worlds. Japan may have two pairs team this year. We will see ;)

I am not sure if there is a solution with adding more events or more skaters at Euros and 4CC... I feel that the top skaters will want to attend Euros anyway because of its prestige... and we all saw what not going to 4CC can do to a top dance team.... So at this point, I am not sure what kind of solution could be implemented... There could be a top 12 scores no matter the countries year-end event. However, I can already see the discussions around it... and it would compete with worlds in some ways. The ISU cannot afford dilution of their product.

Now that Espoo's spot has been filled (Liam K, no Conrad). Skate Canada must send Conrad to Golden Spin. Wesley and Gogo got two spots. If they believe in Conrad, they have to give him another outing before nationals.

Gogo did better in France than in SKAM.

It's not just about the opportunity but it's also about feeling that the FED wants you to improve and for that, you need to have a shot at improving...

Should Canada reduce the number of byes they give for nationals? Would having to earn the nationals spot give more competition experience, even if it's only domestic?

The skaters with byes can always compete at Challenge.

They need international experience to get higher "recognized" scores so they can earn GP spots and earn TES minimums

Most of the skaters with Nationals byes this season were assigned to SCI, which is a week before Ontario, Quebec and Alberta sectionals. I'd give them a break on that due to the turnaround time.

I wouldn't say take away byes, but encourage skaters to use Challenge if they do have a bye and want experience before Nationals. I think it would be a good idea for Conrad to do that if he doesn't get another international assignment before Nationals. If Sara-Maude competed there, I would be very happy since I am a fan of hers and I'd like to see her live :)

That's what I'd like to see, more encouragement to use the resources that are available. Taking away byes to force domestic competition seems like a way to take responsibility away from Skate Canada and put it on the individual skater. It should be Skate Canada doing their job to ensure the skaters are competitive internationally.

I just read that Roman will be the only Canadian skater at Warsaw Cup and also that it's his first outing this season. Good luck!
Roman competed last weekend at Ontario Sectionals. He did a 3s, a 2a and 3lutz-2t in the SP if i recall properly. No LP. We will see if he does indeed compete in Warsaw and how recovery is going on. I wish him the best but i am very careful with hoping for too much too soon.

I meant his first international outing. I agree I'd rather not see him if he hasn't recovered enough. Crossing my fingers!

I just find it interesting that Skate Canada goes to the bother to just send one skater to an event. Especially when there are so many others they can send. Why not send at least one lady and one dance team.
Presumably money. That tends to be the answer much of the time.

Skate Canada's Tweet about this

So blame them for the "kick off the 🌏 season" wording. Especially if you don't notice the world emoji. Their wording is a bit juvenile to me. They didn't have enough characters to write "international" or don't know how to spell it?

Not as bad as that. He did land a beautiful 4s in the SP. It looked like the 2a was planned. Let us hope he is able to try the 3a at Warsaw (successfully) and continues to recover. We need a healthy Roman back.

Having seen all of the rhythm dances now this season, I can confidently say that the three I enjoy the most are Piper and Paul (absolutely No. 1), Lajoie/Lagha and Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen, though I'd like to see FB/S somehow include more of Take My Breath Away.

The other two that I probably like best are Dupayage/Nabais and Zingas/Kolesnik.

Same for me for the RD. And I really like all their FD as well.

Piper and Paul's FD is my favourite of the season. Other free dances that are favourites are Chock/Bates, Lajoie/Lagha, Zingas/Kolesnik, Lauriault/LeGac and Green/Parsons.

I just realized that's three Canadian teams and three American teams, lol.

In the BC/YT Sectional Championships, Mia Sugino/Olivia Marr competed as a same-gender team in Pre-Novice Ice Dance. They will be advancing to Pre-Novice/Novice Challenge in February :)

Pattern Dance - about 11:40 in, with some music issues to start
Free Dance - about 12:30 in

They had an interview with Ted Barton during the ice resurfacing between Juvenile Men and Junior Women, but it wasn't kept when they archived the stream into parts.

Just dropped in on the BC/YT Sectionals in time to see the Pre-Novice Pairs freeskate, two pairs both from the Connaught Club and both coached by Kirsten Moore-Towers. I was very impressed by the winners, Ava Cheung and Stephen Lee. Just kids, but she's a tiny firecracker and he is a solid partner for her, more than a head taller and so careful in his role. Kirsten seems to be doing a good job with music selection and choreography to suit each pair's abilities, as well as teaching them the elements.:cheer::hap10:

I'm sorry I couldn't watch the Cup of China, but what happened to Gilles/Poirier???....How are they behind Lajoie/Lagha, on the scoreboard...it looks like that everything was higher than than Lajoie/Lagha, so...did they make it mistake or something??...is this a worrying sign for their gold medal campaign for Worlds???...I know Lajoie/Lagha is a Canadian team and I should be happy for them as a Canadian (which I am), but...I really want G/P to get the gold medal that they couldn't get last year after a dominating first half of the season and than a very unfortunate injury that completely derailed their season...we all know that they would have won gold had that not happened...I really want them to get the gold they deserve...ok...I'm rambling...sorry...
