The spring Stars on Ice Tour has been announced.

link to schedule. Unfortunately no dates near me.

Cast announced so far: Patrick, Elvis, Keegan, Satoko, Loena, Maddie, P&P, Deanna & Max
I was looking at that earlier on.... I could trek to Laval... Really not that far away. Maybe to see Chiddy. It's a major improvement that they are doing something in Quebec this year. I think that last time was in 2018.

I see. My bad :) This is something I would never ever think about doing, especially in the winter :)
I wouldn't either. In good weather, Calgary is a day's drive from here. But I thought of driving there for Nationals, and then rejected the thought. The problem with going to Calgary for skating is that the events are held at the Olympic Park, which is way out on the western edge of town, with nothing nearby. I hate the thought of renting a car.

I wonder how long it would take from Toronto for Roman ;) Can you imagine an athlete being sitting down in bus/car for days before a skating competition?

My husband and kids used to do it in the summer (Toronto to Calgary). I flew. When people questioned that, my reply was that my time was more limited than theirs and that they would pay any amount of money to avoid spending several days in a car with me. I am NOT a good traveler.

The quickest and best driving route is through Windsor, Detroit, Chicago :palmf::palmf: , etc, crossing back into Canada in Saskatchewan.

He just can't catch a break.

I was just thinking about Romsky and was thinking I’d check in here to confirm that he has arrived successfully to Golden Spin along with his skates, and of course now I see that he won’t even make it. I was hoping he would arrive a day earlier to play it safe. I don’t understand why he didn’t do this. Is it a budget issue where SC only pays for hotels for a certain amount of nights and he doesn’t want to put any of his own money? Is the cost of one extra hotel night really worth not spending when you spend way more money on ice rink time, equipment, coaching, etc?
The goal is to compete right. Why leave everything to the last day. Also, don’t you want to arrive a day early to get used to the ice rink? Make sure you skates arrive and if they don’t, you have time to sort out. If you had bad luck on your first international event, don’t you want to take a safer approach to make sure you get to compete at your next and only other event?

I’m not sure if this is bad luck or just an athlete who doesn’t think ahead or even learn from his mistakes. I have talked to tennis athletes who compete at 20+ competitions in ATP Tour and they arrive a day earlier to most of the tennis locations, and in most cases pay for the first night themselves. It is considered mitigating risks cost. The extra day allows them to execute a plan B if original plan doesn’t work out when it comes to travel. Also, they use the extra day before they are expected to compete, to adjust to the new environment and to get used to the different court surface. They don’t miss tournaments cause they need to earn as many points to get ahead in rankings from your competition. You need to plan ahead. Check weather forecast, etc. These athletes don’t have issues with WD cause they plan ahead.

I just have to laugh at this now. There is an element of bad luck. But, that is for the first instance. The second time, it’s on you for failing to take the necessary steps to prevent bad luck. I hate to say it, bad luck can be a result of lack or organization or foresight.

Honestly, at this point, he doesn’t deserve to even be considered or in discussion for a 4CC spot. His last performance at Nationals was horrific. You are given two opportunities and at the end of the day, it is up to you to deliver. Two WD’s tells me everything I need to know about this athlete. He officially has three WD’s cause ONT Sectionals, he withdrew from free skate.

So,
ONT Sectionals WD
Warsaw WD
Golden Spin WD

How do you expect SC to consider you for international competitions when you’ve posted these kind of results? He doesn’t deserve a spot to 4CC. 4CC should be Stephen, Wesley and Conrad.
Roman, now has to focus on Nationals. If he places in the top 2 (will be tough), then he gets to go to Worlds. If he doesn’t, well, no international tournament for Roman this season. He has put all his eggs in one basket: Nationals

I apologize for my rant. He is my favourite Canadian skater. It is really so hard to be a fan of Romsky. Maybe, with a nights rest, I will feel better.

Well, that means that Kaiya is not going to 4CC and perhaps confirms also that she may be going to Junior Worlds. So Madeline, Sara-Maude and.... ? Justine ? Like last year? Or will they give it to Fiona ? Based on what we saw this weekend, it's a tough call.
Sigh. Justine… how boring? The same three cause those are the only athletes sent out to competitions??? She did so bad at Challenge. But, almost tied Fiona. Therefore, I would send Justine over Fiona. This is funny: send the #6 and #9-#11 from Challenge event to 4CC.

Almost the same is happening in Korea ;)

Skate Canada has really dug itself a hold with not sending out our skaters to enough competitions. When our skaters are not skating well, ie Justine they don't have a lot of options. And at the Challenge we had a result that some of us have been suggesting could happen - that someone would surprise and place ahead of the fav ones.
Not sure I would send both Wesley and Aleksa to Jr Worlds, especially with it being their last year for JRs. That would mean we would be sending out 'new' skaters next year. And with the way that SC doesn't send out our skaters it wouldn't be fare to throw them into JR worlds without some other big event 1st. Send either Wesley or Aleksa and someone who might get sent next year so they can get the experience with out the weight of expectations of placing well.

The new skaters have gone to JGP though and will go next year again... Sending both Wesley last year, helped to secure the top spots AND the JGP spots for this season. Right now, the best junior skater (who is not competing senior) is probably Edward Vasii. He went to junior worlds last year as a national junior champion but it didn't work out for him, then he got injured so he has not been skating this season. He will most likely be back next year and have the experience needed as well. With juniors, so much can happen so quickly, I think it's best to send your better skaters and earn the opportunities for JGP and worlds.

Just checked the entry list for Golden Spin and it is interesting that the USA skaters can get there but Roman can't.

At the same time, Justine tends to do one good event, then one bad event... then one good LOL... So that could be a good one for her :)
Also, when it comes to international success, though it was skated in her backyard, Justine did at least win a medal at a challenger event this year ;)

Looks like it's official. No word if he was released from Canada or if he's playing the long waiting game. Seems like he deleted his post about CanSkateFund. I wonder what happens with that money? Are they required to pay it back if they received it so recently?

Corey competed at 4CC in the last five seasons which means his release will take time. He is signed up for Italian Nationals already. However, we will not see him compete internationally for quite a while.
At the same time, it is not like he was seeing lots of competitive ice since he turned senior. It seems like we have developed fan attachment for him because we saw him in juniors in both dance and singles... But how often did he compete recently? COVID, injuries and lack of opportunities.
