Dutch Figure Skating 2024-2025

No @FlossieH, it's the way we call it in Dutch. It is real or actual ice, but artificially made. It's not the temperature outside which brings it into being, but machines. Ice made by low temperatures is called 'natural ice' which is 'naturally made' because of the outside weather conditions! So, in winter time you sometimes have so-called 'natural ice' on the lakes and Canals which for many Dutch men/women is 'the real thing'. Ice skating sports mostly take place on 'artificial ice', be it speed skating (long track, short track, marathon) or the more aesthetic variants (figure skating or 'clean or beautiful' skating). Marathon skating usually takes place on 'artificial'ice but marathon riders (very popular in The Nederlands) prefer the natural ice if at all possible.

For good order: the Dutch words 'Artificial ice' refer to how it is made, not to the ice itself.

Thank you for that explanation. I was wondering that as well when I read the article! I always learn things here -- and not just about figure skating! LOL

Daria and Michel are scheduled to compete at the Tayside Trophy (UK) this weekend. They have also managed to get some extra funding by way of collaborating with the Foundation Joan Haanappel founded to promote Figure Skating. Mostly for singles, Daria and Michel are the first pair.

Niki managed to get her minimums to take part in the EC at the Budapest Trophy. Still a lot to grow with some falls but still, a wonderful achievement so early in the Season!

Daria and Michel did not have their best outing at Tayside Trophy. They ended fourth with 2 falls in their SP.

On home ice (national results) Chelsea and Sherim finished just before Hanna and Alessio: 139.86 vs 138.34 points. It seems the close rivalry continues!

Nice to see Niki again. Look forward to Daria and Michel in Canada this season.

It is with joy and pride that I can say that Niki did well at Ondrey Nepela: she ended in 4th place even if there were app. 20 points difference between placement 3 and 4. Hurrah for Niki!!! :points::cheer:

At Mezzalunacup Hanna and Alessio were in 5th. A pity they could not hold on to 3rd (where they were placed after the RD), but still well done as well! :cheer::cheer:

Daria and Michel took 7th place at SCI, not their best outing ever, but not their worst either. They kept 'The Chain' for their FS, and that has made me very happy.
Enjoyed the FP so much and they seem to enjoy pairs skating generally.. no angst; just positive energy 🧡. Glad they kept the free music too!

Two Dutch women will be competing at Volvo Open Cup in Riga, Latvia. In Seniors Roos van de Pas, in Juniors Jolanda Vos. I wish them to have good outings! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

Niki seems to be on a roll: she will be competing again this weekend, now at the Tirnavia Cup in Slovakia (which of course means she can stay in the country, since the competition last weekend also took place there). Wishing her luck! :hap10::hap10::hap10:

In the Junior women Lucca Dijkhuizen, Pheline Wisse and Kahlan Gooijer will be in Trnava as well.

At Volvo Open Jolanda Vos is in 20th place after the SP in JR women (out of 22 women) and Roos van der Pas is in 14th place (last) after the SP in Senior Women. Let's hope their FS improve their standings!

Things might't have gone well for Roos, but they went very well for her sister. Floor van der Pas is in 3rd position (out of 20) after this morning's Advanced Novice 2008-2011 Ladies SP.

Hopefully a bit of sibling rivalry will kick in and it will drive Roos onwards and upwards in her FS. ;)

At Volvo Open Jolanda Vos eventually was 17th. She was15th in the FS, so managed to rise a few places. Well done Jolanda! :cheer::cheer:

Roos van der Pas was 12th (seniors) at Volvo Open. She has improved her standing compared to the SP only when she was in 14th place. Well done Roos! :laugh3::laugh3:

Niki Wories is in 5th place after the SP at Tirnavia Cup, Lucca Dijkhuizen (junior) in 13th, Kahlan Gooijer in 20th and Pheline Wisse in 37th after the SP I wish them all luck in the Free although I presume each will have diffrent goals for themselves. :hap10::hap10::hap10:

Hurrah! Niki was 2nd in the FS at Tirnavia Cup, making her jump some places and get the bronze medal! Well done Niki!!!🥉:points::cheer::cheer:

The Jumior results: Lucca Dijkhuizen was 10th (7th in the FS), so she jumped quite a few places, Kahlan Gooijer was 21st (her FS was only 23rd), and Pheline Wisse was 38th. Maybe not as spectacular as Niki's result, but still: well done! :cheer::cheer:

I had a feeling she would. We know she is capable of better than last.

And just to add a further update on how Floor got on in Advanced Novice 2008-2011. She finished 3rd in both segments, and won the 🥉 Bronze Medal.

I was looking at Roos' website (which hasn't had any new posts since 2022) the other day, and found out something interesting about the sisters. Floor actually had an influence on the start of Roos' journey in figure skating. Roos had her first taste of the ice in May 2011, and instantly fell in love with it. But, she had to wait a while to start lessons, because the baby was due to arrive imminently. Floor was born on 6th May 2011.

We don't actually get to see them together often, but here is a cute photo of them from March 2015:

Well done to both of them on their results in Riga.
