Maybe the heavy rains? I actually once saw something similar in a rink in another country. The guys there were training for their Nationals and they had cones and buckets on the ice because the roof was leaking after a storm.

Those cones would so put me off. Half my brain would be occupied with remembering to try to avoid them, and then there wouldn't be enough left for anything other than a disaster skate!

I´m shocked they actually allow them to skate with those safety cones on ice. Of course skaters will make the best to avoid the corner, but it´s figure skating and high risk of falls and gliding on the ice, this could really create a ugly situation if this happens and they collide with those. Isn´t it very risky legally? I can´t believe the organizers would risk that, do you think this would have happen in the US? I think the competition would have been cancelled.

Since they decided to hold it, having my fingers crossed everyone stays safe. And i´m hoping Adam is not planning to do a black flip in that corner...

I couldn't skate. It's like when I'm driving and trying to avoid a pothole and I hit it every time.

It's an Olympic sized rink and the cones are rather close to the edge. I don't see an issue really. Skaters can handle competitions at the smaller NHL rinks, they should be able to navigate this as well.

France is always full of surprises...speaking of i'm really surprised that rats from the Seine didn't move to Nice and started ice skating

Well skaters practice and compete at different size of rinks. Sometimes Europeans have problems in North America because of smaller rinks. But I wonder how it is with whole ice. Those have been there already at the morning and they have not been able to repair it. As I wrote, yesterday quite many falls also happened just at that corner.

I don´t really think that is the same though as small sized rink, they have bords as protection. I thought there were clear rules that the ice must be clear, skaters can get deduction of they lose chunks of their costumes on the ice...
