2024-25 Canadian Figure Skating

Robert Brodie pre-SCI article:

Marjorie Lajoie had another concussion -
Majorie Lajoie got that spooky feeling in early September, just a week after Skate Canada’s high-performance camp, when she learned an accidental collision in practice had left her with a second concussion. And all the bad symptoms she’d endured at the beginning of this year began to surface again.

Mike Slipchuk talks about having more women with the CTES minimums -
ā€œI have a feeling that we have a nice group of younger skaters in the women coming up … over the next three or four years, you’re going to see a lot of depth coming out of there, which is good,ā€ said Slipchuk. ā€œRight now, (for worlds qualifying scores), we have Maddie, Sara-Maude and Uliana. Kaiya is just a bit short on it. We’ve got two more that got the Four Continents, with Breken and Fee-Ann last week. We’re getting more depth on that, too.ā€

(apparently Maddie is planning on competing at Ontario sectionals too)

Also the quote from Deanna about her citizenship exam from the deleted tweet earlier -
ā€œMy citizenship attorney told me to start studying for the exam and they’ll contact me in three to four months to take it,ā€ she said. ā€œSo I’m studying every day, because I have to pass on my first try. Otherwise, I get put back in the queue and then it could take months to take it again. So I have to pass it right away.ā€

Zachary is everyone's type I am afraid. I met him at worlds.... Even better in person.
I know. I love that he is so talented with the piano. He is that athlete that doesn’t stop until he is at the top. I love that intensity. They were my favourite team at Worlds last year.

Hehe I don't care for his piano playing. The rest is excellent though. I loved them at worlds too. I would have had piper and paul in first and lala in third.

2nd through 5th were all really close, it is good that she started off the Grand Prix by having two good programs. It's something she can build on and she's happy with how she did based on her mixed zone comments.

I do think Kaiya and Sara-Maude had better outings here than their Grand Prix debuts last season. They were both over 160 and Kaiya was able to pick up points for world standings and World Team Trophy qualification.

Robert Brodie recaps the Men SP and Rhythm Dance at SCI:

While Barkell said there had been ā€œsome issuesā€ in dealing with his back during the off-season, all is well for the moment and the decision was made to scale down his programs this week to protect his health (the short program will eventually have two quads. Gogolev has been landing quad loops in practice, and Barkell said either that or the quad toe will be added down the road in the combination. The long will be similarly watered down, with the plan to have three or four quads in it by season’s end).

ā€œIt’s been kind of on and off,ā€ Gogolev said of his back health. ā€œWe took it very carefully leading up to this competition.ā€

It was just announced that Roman has WD from the Free Skate due to injury.
Sounded to me like Chris was unsure of the reason Roman WD. Whatever it is, Roman really can't catch a break. :( His SP was not good, but what a shame to not be able to attempt his FS. I hope he can recover from whatever as quickly as possible. Wishing him all the best as, when he's on, his skating is so enjoyable.

EDIT: On the other stream, Ted used the words "nagging injury that he's been trying to get over, but he didn't feel ready to do a free program."

Robert Brodie recaps the Women and Pairs Free:

ā€œWe just started the season earlier and competed more often, and she’s more comfortable,ā€ explained Lemaire. ā€œAnd every time you go, it’s not perfect but you come back and then the next one’s better than the last one. It just helps build confidence. We’ve competed four times already. That helps, especially if you’re a nervous competitor at all.ā€

Although I never wish for anyone to fail…I am very pleased that Piper and Paul have the opening they need to pass Chock and Bates…C’MON…please be their year with no injuries…

Last Robert Brodie SCI recap for the Men and Ice Dance.

More about injuries :(

It was a somewhat painful weekend for Fabbri, who twisted an ankle last weekend at Skate America and had to grit out Sunday’s performance. She’s grateful for a break after three competitions in four weeks.

ā€œHe [Roman] tweaked his back on Monday before getting here,ā€ Skate Canada high performance director Mike Slipchuk revealed Sunday after the competition was done. ā€œIt’s nothing major long term, but he wasn’t able to rotate. That’s why you saw the first three days, he didn’t jump here on practice. He did no jumps. He got treatment while he was here. The day of the short was the first day he jumped. It wasn’t 100 per cent but there was some discomfort.ā€
Hopefully they'll both be healthy for Talinn Trophy

Just wondering? Preparing myself for next weekend…. šŸ˜
Is next weekend only AB and MB Sectionals?
Also, is there a sectional competition for the Maritime provinces?
I’m going to focus more on our domestic competitions than the GP events, as I prefer cheering on our domestic skaters

It's Alberta and Manitoba next weekend. Ontario, Quebec, BC and Saskatchewan are the weekend after.

For New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, I think they held their sectionals in the beginning of October. The results are here - http://skatecanada.ns.ca/2024/10/2024-fallskate-results/
