2024 Skate Canada Men's Free Skate

For me, Jason is one of the most beautiful skaters I have seen. The opening of this programme made me catch my breath, tracing the figures on the ice, and then stopping on the very tip of his blade for a single perfect instant. I also loved his 3F+2A sequence, with the leg kick in between the two jumps. Also, props to him for fighting for the 3A and managing to land it the second time - sometimes the only way out is through - while also choosing to double the second lutz when the triple didn't work out: two different strategies for dealing with jump problems. And his reaction to the skate and the score, well, whatever disappointment he may have felt, he met with a smile.

Oh Jason...

That was spellbinding but what a shame about the jumps - wonder if he's ill or injured this weekend?

I've said it previously, but I've noticed that when Jason adjusts the waistband of his trousers before the start of the skate, he then goes on to have a not-such-a-great skate. Perhaps it's a sign of nerves/lack of confidence. (So, I always feel relieved when he doesn't adjust his waistband!)

Jason has a ways to go to return to form, so let's give him some time and see what happens. My guess is he was well aware of where he was before the start of the competition as there seemed to be an unsettled look about him-maybe I'm projecting?

Okay. I did the judges a disservice when I said he'd go into first on reputation. That was a fair score for the skate he did.
It's arithmetic. They gave him a 10-point advantage in PCS, but it still wasn't enough. They tried!

I know he won't because of reputation, but he should drop below Frangipani and Rakic.

that's what happened.

You're spot on about reputation. Even Chris was making comments about how great Jason is. I'm not trying to take anything from Jason. I love watching him skate, his artistry and presentation are always winners.

However, at this point, he's taking up spots in competitions that could be going to other American men who are ready to make a name for themselves, and can't because Jason is going, based on his reputation.

I think a bit nervous about the readiness of his content and lack of actual competition.

I respectfully disagree. Those other skaters could get a higher season's best than Jason. They could beat him at nationals. Guess, what ? They don't do those things. He's not taking anything from anyone else. They aren't earning the spots. Sorry, but I really hate this type of argument. You earn your spots, you don't rely on others to retire and give them to you. He was 5th at last year's World Championships. Should everyone who finished lower than 5th retire in your opinion?

Damn winter time. I almost missed this but watched the first half without watching skaters waiting the scores and caught the live broadcast now. Well the winter time is the real time, but moving the times on the clock and remembering to count +5, not +6 was the problem.

I’m no fan of Brown, but I definitely disagree with this. If the other US men want international opportunities, then they need to step up. The door is open and no one has been walking through it.
