2024-25 Russian Grand Prix - Stage 3 - Krasnoyarsk

Great free skate from Krasnoyarsk. Gosh, I can just wish Nationals will be the same.

I was sure Akatieva won't attempt a 4T as there was no videos of her doing after the injury. I can't believe she lands it at the warm-up.
I'm curious why you thought she wouldnt jump it when they said she would even before the SP. Unless you didnt know they planned it, but that would surprising cause you seem to know everything.
I hope Sofia won’t give up competitions after this season. I hope she can be again at top level alongside with Adelia.
She really became a beautiful young woman and her skating is even more beautiful than before the break.
Why would she give up? Even if she had to stick with triples (which I doubt, if shes already jumping a 4T), why would that make her quit? She would still podium on an international stage.

Well i think Sofia MURAVYEVA - each time she has something - some excuses, some reasons - I think she will never become TOP ! disappointed in her, no idea it is coaches or skater problem. She is so beautiful and she skate so beautifully too but it stops at that, that's all.
Yea, being the 2nd best skater in the world last year, she will never become "TOP". Whatever that means. I suppose anything other than #1 isnt "TOP"? So why doesnt everyone but Petrosian get chastised by you as well? If they finished even worse than Mura? What excuses did she even make last year? I think zero. Every tournament she was crying blaming herself. How is it an excuse if shes actually sick now? Is she faking it? And she did so preemptively knowing she would do poorly? Can you give another example of "excuses" she made? If you say its "constant"? She sat out Spartakiad last year for sickness, which cant be an excuse, since she didnt compete, so there is nothing to excuse for.

Why backload all three combos if she's sick and on antibiotics (very common side effect is lower energy production)?
I looked it up on google and cant find anything on this. Curious on your source (not implying you dont have one, I just genuinely cant find it). I can only find some certain antibiotics weaken soft tissue but otherwise nothing on their intrinsic effect on sports/exercise especially in regards to cardio (unless paired with other factors).

Still the sickness itself would obviously effect her, so not peak shape Mura either way.

Little reminder, elite sport is very damaging to athletes' health, especially when people are forced to keep on skating when sick and injured.
Yea, people think pro athletes are the healthiest people in the world, or "fittest", but it isnt so, (whatever "fittest" means though I suppose).

A person who eats well and does consistent, healthy exercise has significantly more longevity and a better holistic health condition than pro athletes despite lesser peak performance in the short term.

Congrats to Frolova for her win against big guns.
Being older than 17 (19 in this case), keeping her jumps and being successful in Russia is possible after all.
Was it really in question Russians could keep triples? With quads there are issues but with triples I dont see reason to worry. Its that people retired for other reasons. For example Zagi/Medvedeva had no reason to continue. Shcherbakova too. Valieva got banned but she obviously would've kept triples (she even still has some), Ignatova is married and moved on but could probably do triples if she wanted. The Russian scene is pretty young at the elite level for ladies. The last generations just had no reason to continue. With quads we have a data set to show they really tend to lose them post-development but triples not really, there is no data set at all. Frolova/Sinitsyna's generation is the first to reach this point and I think plenty of them will keep triples. Muravieva for example is 18 already as well.

she really has something - i dont know it is about coach problem or skater or both. she showecased 3A outside of competitions - but she does not do it in compeitions, totally worthless! for me the season is almost finished for her. I dont think she can be on the podium this season.
Why do you hate her so much? The season is over for one bad skate? She barely lose to Frolova in SP, who is in peak shape, while sick. Her FS is one bad skate. And its already over? Its impossible you came to that conclusion logically, so explained why you are so bias against her?

Both costly mistakes of Akatieva were not due to lack of shape, but pure psychology. She just needs to get a confidence in herself in front of the crowd, and she can compete for top-3 in RusNats this year.
I agree. I believe her when she says the injury is cured. Her extreme hesitation was clear. They even mentioned she was acting a little off in the training, like overly tense and serious. Not free and normal like she should. But thats totally fine for first start. I think in her next stage she should do well then by finals we will see a well adjusted fully recovered Akateva. If she already landed 4T in warmup by finals she could compete with Adeliia, though without a 3A she definitely wouldn't be a favourite and Adeliia would need to mess up to lose gold. I really wonder how Akateva's 3A is going since her 2A is flawless.

Well, this stage was a severe catastrophe for my golden skate predictions reputation.

Anyways, I am just happy that Akateva isnt being hard on herself. I was scared she would be devastated when I checked the score cards. But she seems in good spirits quite quickly. Havent watched the events yet but very happy for Chaplygina/Gorbacheva as well.

And Kulikova is certainly making a serious bid for joining Frolova and Sinitsina. I secretly want her to skate with some of Tolkunova's or Shulzhenko's vocals.

There are a lot of different classes of antibiotics with different targets, some cause fatigue fairly commonly while others don't. Why energy production can be affected is pretty simple - Antibiotics target bacterial structures, and our mitochondria (where most of our energy production happens) are very similar to bacteria.

Generally, this would be more of a concern after long-term ingestion (which we obviously don't know is the case for Mura) and you are right that the actual infection is likely to have an even stronger effect than the medication (else we wouldn't be using them). There are also other, more common side-effects like nausea, dizziness and difficulty breathing (these are semi-common to very common side-effects of Amoxicillin/Clavulanate, which is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic in Russia), that make it inadvisable to skate with. :/

Thanks. Yea I understand the intuitive conclusion based on structural similarities you mentioned. I meant a specific source but I eventually found some on antibiotics negatively affecting ATP anyways. I am way too lazy to actually read the papers but seems you're right.

I feel so, so sad for Murav'yeva having to skate sick. I hope she will recover and comes back strong! She is magical.

I don't like this program for Frolova, but I adore everything else about Frolova and I am so happy with her gold. It is truly a triumph of love for the craft and art and just love. Excuse me while I swipe a tear off.

Nightmare skate though. But I want them to happen. I am gonna manifest it. If I can have skating miracles, i will take either that or Mozalev. Whatever is the easiest for the skating gods.

Totally deserved win for M/G, but I dunno, not digging this program for them yet. Hope that next pair event will have less problems!

Yes. Because that conversation didn't wait the quad era. It started way before that.

4 of the top 5 at nats last season were 17 to 19. All with 3-3s or even 3A. High scores. So it's clear that they can and always could keep their triples. It just depends of the motivation. They have more visibility now because most of quadsters are blocked in juniors.

Same here. It was all over the place. The mixed music was just giving me headache.
I don't remeber particularly liking any of their programs since We are the Champions, though Galliamov's Elvis costume was a find. But, I suppose, their strength doesn't lie in being creative, it's more in Mishina's joyful vibe, Galliamov's awe-inspiring physique and their technical prowess.

You talking about the MJ program? I'm still traumatized by the midi piano in that track from test skates.

I'm halfway through the women's SP. The judges were so brutal with Chaplygina and Agaeva. Exciting last 4 coming up.

Frolova's consistency is incredible I can't remember her messing up a jump last season, and perfect so far in 1.5 GP's.
