My late comments...
The RD theme was great this year, so dancy.... my favorites were Mironova/Ustenko, Khavronina/Nerizhny, Kolomenskaya/Frolov, Schchina/Drozd.
The podium was boring and predictable in the end... wanted Khavronina/Nerizhny to hold silver, she could be the next Tatiana Navka. Stepanova/Bukin were very good, but I don't know, their material with Zhulin doesn't feel like anything new. Like when S/K went to him they made a tremendous improvement, and S/B are just kind of the same but still very good.
Love both programs from M/U... such great dancing in the RD, beautiful shapes and figures in the FD... TAT seemed to really like them. Wish they had a touch more speed like the dancers in the final group, but I prefer the lines over speed. Very fun to see them interviewed, I don't think I have seen it before, at least not something more than "how was your skate." Evgeny imitating a broadcaster and Katya's deep philosophical thoughts were cute, I didn't catch what Trankov said about them discussing elements in the kitchen... are they a couple or are they related to the coaches?
Big potential and speed but need to smooth out... Shevchenko/Ezhlov and Kaganovskaya/Nekrasov. S/E reminded me so much of Ilinykh/Zhiganshin, now I see he's on their coaching list... love their "wild" ending. K/N are so powerful, I would not have minded them on the podium (above K/B) but it's not a bad thing for them to see there are holes they need to fill, more complex choreography and finesse... and it's already a great result for this season. I know she's got a big following, so I hope she sticks with it and works hard.
On the other hand, Scherbakova/Goncharov have fantastic programs but skating is too staccato... (and I thought that before her unfortunate injury).
Pasechennik/Cirisano were really electric in the RD, they completely took me by surprise, just every step was so on the beat and so right, but I agree with them dropping in FD (for me ideally would have been behind M/U), nothing was wrong with it, just not as strong as others. They've got huge potential for next year.
Leontieva/Gorelkin have lost some spark for me, they were more interesting last season...
Happy Schchina/Drozd made top 10 but I thought they could have been a few places higher... they have the right mix of elegance, speed, and control... I can't imagine international ice dancers are any better than them?
Kolomenskaya/Frolov were the strongest among former juniors for me, it's so depressing how low they are ranked, I truly don't get it. All the teams are SO GOOD it's unbelievable to see the quality of skaters that don't even make the top 10... and I don't want them to split, so no idea where they go from here.
