Quick update about Kao's condition during Pairs SP ice resurfacing

Per a Mainichi interview, Kao is restricted from jumping the Toeloop with an exception made for a 2T in the FS
He only started practicing jumps a week ago and wasn't able to land 4S until two days ago
He's nervous about needing to depend on a clean 3F3Lo in the SP since he's never used it in competition before (edit: he yolo-ed this combo at NHK Trophy unsuccessfully out of desperation but has never included it as a planned combo in a program)
Says he was lucky to land it during his runthru
Also mentioned he lost a lot of muscle in his legs since he's been unable to practice jumps but that the ice seems conducive to his current condition
He doesn't expect a great outcome from this competition but is happy to be competing again

Unsure if changes are still possible but I wanted to post this in case anyone put Kao higher up in their picks

I guess JSF was hoping that he would recover in time when they gave him the assignment after JNats... There are a lot of talent in Japan, but considering most of them bombed nationals badly, probably JSF wanted someone who got a shot at podium at 4CC.

He really should have withdrawn, but we know how stubborn Kao can be. To make things worse the 1st alternate here is Shun who just did AWG last week and back to back comps really doesn't bode well with his body condition Koshiro as 2nd alternate should've gone instead.

Kao has actually been very responsible taking care of his injury since Nationals
He said he would decide on this competition depending on his condition closer to the event
He got his doctor's approval to compete at the beginning of this month, providing he doesn't jump the Toeloop (again, exception made for a 2T in the FS)
Considering he's been strictly following doctor's orders and withdrew from all but one of his previously scheduled events since Nationals (and the one he did recently he didn't jump at all) I'm not upset about him deciding to compete in this one
I'm just keeping my expectations low and gonna believe that he won't do anything stupid to aggravate his injury
