2026 Olympic Season | Music Suggestions

Hi everyone!

As we know, less than a year from now it will start the much awaited Olympic competitions. The 2024-2025 is going to come to an end, and the following period will be marked by a constant research from coaches, choreographers and skaters as well, of the perfect music to build refined and detailed program with, a music able to express skaters' own skills and artistic quality at their best for the Olympic competitions. In a few words, they will try to build the perfect "Olympic program".

I thought that maybe we can post here our personal suggestions, and we may add music in our post whenever we want keeping them always updated if we may find other music! Let's suggest music for all disciplines creating a music source for every skater and coach! What do you think?

What music would you skate to for the 2026 Olympics? What music would you choose to perform your Olympic programs? Let's talk about it here, proposing a lot of music! I hope you will enjoy it and that maybe it will be useful too!

Although relatively unknown. many great figure skaters have used music created by USA pianist/composer Jennifer Thomas. including at major ISU events and the Olympic Games. IMO as an independent she deserves far more recognition in the music world.
This is one of her works performed by the delightful Rika Kihara.

I'd love for someone to use the corpse bride music that evgenia medvedeva used in 2015. I heard that an ice dance team has used the music before, too. Idk if the music is from the original stop-motion Corpse Bride or from elsewhere.

Canadian team Lauriault/Le Gac used it last year for FD

I prefer radical and bold music choices, Olympic year or not. I wish we would see at least one Carmen, PotO, Turandot or, dare I say, Tosca, but one can only dream, I know.

I just remembered another idea I had recently. Since we've heard a lot of ill-advised riffs/remixes on Moonlight Sonata etc, I suggest skaters check out Jon Batiste's album "Beethoven Blues" which is in a whole other league from stuff like "random vocals/electric violin randomly added in."

ETA: The full album (it consists of 4 songs) also includes metal versions of I. Don Quixote, The Impossible Dream, and My Way. What is it with this Sir and skating program warhorses?

Pines of Rome by Respighi (there are a lot of good parts... this is just one excerpt)

Might not be tuneful enough for Olympic audiences, but it brings back a fond memory for me. One time the Detroit Symphony put on an outdoor concert, featuring this music. A little bird was perched in a nearby tree and started singing along with the orchestra. He out-sang the entire 100-piece ensemble.

I have been re-watching the Worlds last few days because I did not have time to watch early groups before. And last night by the time the second group of women SP was finishing I was literally BEGGING for Carmen, POTO, Chicago or any warhorse (all the mentioned I hate normally) which would bring a bit of life. A program after program was skated to a one-level, nondescript pop with no tempo change, no rise or fall, nothing. I just can't help wondering why the skaters go for such a music? Do they think it would help them focus on the elements? Judging by what I'd seen so far - it does NOT. It brings them no PCS favours from the judges nor clapping from the crowd...So why?! How a judge can decide on music interpretation - if there is literally nothing to interpret, no musical accent to hit? Well, they must have their reasons I guess...

... This is something I am also often wondering about.
When watching Olympic skaters they really manage the most technically advanced things.

However their choreo (at least in my eyes) often does not seem to be in sync with the music they skate to. It often seems to me they are "just" reeling off their program (which is admittedly difficult enough ...) and the music is just there as a "backdrop".

I am myself still quite a beginners skater but when I sit in my car commuting to work, listning to some favourite music I immediately see in front of my inner eye which kind of moves, jumps etc I would do that are beat-wise and otherwise in sync with the song (and its tempo changes, rises, falls, drum or other solos,...) I happen to listen to. However I am unfortunately completely lacking the technical skills to put my "imagined choreo" into practice. So I wonder why skaters that DO possess the technical skills are not more in sync with their music or even choose music which does not lend itself as accompaniment to their superb skating.
