2025 World Team Trophy Exhibition

i don't think the point is really how well the Americans can fluff :)

it's that usually, these fluff awards, are given to another fluff team, not the one who won the non-fluff part of the fluff competition... :)
Yeah, I was quite surprised too. If they are willing to give fluff awards to those who win in the non-fluff part of the competition, why didn't Korea get the spirit award last year? I think they were clearly gunning for that award, and did it so well... and I figured that since they were silver medalists, they couldn't win it.

I thought that in comparison with the past, France's efforts were less structured and planned out. Canada actually did a surprisingly good job for Canada... but the US was overall more impressive this year, which I think comes down to Jason's planning and how they made an effort to have pretty much the full team in every Kiss and Cry as much as possible, and how everyone was game to cooperate (which would not be as possible if Nathan was on the team).

I know I've said this many times over the years during Gala Finales. But I will say it again.

I wish they would have a camera at the top of the stands that showed the whole rink, and stick to it for the whole of the Finale so that we can see everything that is happening.

You could tell that there was so much happening across the ice during that Finale, but we were only getting to see a tiny fraction of it.

Awww. Love the way all the skaters are interacting with the audience after the end of the Finale.

Did I spot one of the Italian team's pizza signs in the audience?

Yes, I enjoyed that Gala.

And I hope the ISU sees sense and brings back Galas for all of their events next season.

Just seeing Max in a full body bear costume should have secured the award for Canada :) but it's Okay... Canadians are nice... if the Americans want the fluff award, they can have it....

When did they do little intros? I missed it.
I was just referring to the way the KnC would react when a skater was introduced, not entering the ice à la Worlds. My choice of words was not good.

Although I do think whoever came up with the Ohtani bit for the team, playing to the home crowd but still all American, was genius.

So, while watching Ilia's exhibition last night, there were a couple of moments that he was holding the mask that reminded me of Hamlet. In a sleepless haze, I thought, Ilia could pull off Hamlet, if the right music for it existed, and now that I'm actually awake and had time to consider putting this out in the world, I'm still sticking to that idea.

Considering his LP from this year...
There are a coupe options.
Tchaikovsky Hamlet Overture.
Or
Thomas's Opera...

I leave you with the Tchaikovksy but to me, he doesn't have the glide to skate to classical music, nor the power to skate to a moment like 5 minutes into this piece.

Right after it, Mao Shimada's 3A in gala performance is treated like ordinary things.

Canadian team won my award for best K&C choreo. I probably would have voted for them for the spirit award if I was judging.
I like the dancing around the seating area. The bear costume. I thought Canada should have won too, or Italy for spirit. I don't know what criteria Asahi TV used to pick. I really wish there had been like a temporary app like Dancing With the Stars and the fans could take a poll on their phone from their seats. People's Choice Spirit Award. But that could also involve bias LOL.

I totally loved the gala. Two music questions - what is the music (Japanese?) the mascot skated to during the Zamboni breaks throughout the WTT (when it wasn't "YMCA")? What is the upbeat music they play following each medal ceremony/victory lap? It really puts me in a good, happy mood!

You're not the only one that was wondering about the music. Curiosity got the better of me on Saturday. And after some hunting, I did actually find the Podium Ceremony music, and posted about it in the music thread in Le Café:

That awkward moment when you are watching the celebrations after the Podium Ceremony at the WTT, and you are wondering what language the song being played in the arena is in, and what the lyrics are about.

And then you start picking up the odd word here and there, and realise that it is actually in your own language (English)! 😲 The words are just coming too fast for your brain to process them. :drama: :slink:

Gabry Ponte, Lum!x & Giorgio Prezioso - "Thunder"

A drinking song! 🍻 How appropriate!

It's not really my type of music. But, I thought I should add it to this thread in case anybody else was wondering what the song was.

Don't know what the music was that got played for the mascot, though.

Hope this helps

^ :thank: so much, Caroliza! I bookmarked it as another Youtube favorite (most of my Youtube "favorites" are figure skating related videos, duh)!
