Interesting results. It makes a big difference if Russia can compete especially in pairs. Even in dance things would have been interesting if they were allowed to compete. What would be more interesting but unlikely if the Shibsibs and Guilaumme and laurence fail to make it to the olympics though I think that is unlikely. There is just so much confusion! People actually seem to believe the figure skaters were doing war programs or something! It was totally apolitical. It was like an island of entertainment with no politics

The decision by the ISU follows the 'it's the war, not doping' logic, since Petrosyan passed, but M/G didn't (which, of course, piles injustices even higher since ISU continues to support Tutberidze along with RusFed and Russian government, with corruption apparently being the only common ground in figure skating where everyone is in a cordial agreement). This, at least, is consistent with their initial rule set. I wish Russians had the gumption to walk away from the Olympics, but it's their kryptonite. As the fires of the war spread across the globe, I watch ISU with a morbid curiosity.

I believe, yes, it was pictures with Putin and Galliamov's positive comment on this picture (iirc something like 'the greatest day of my life'). Galliamov allowed himself to vent on media about international pair skating (negatively), so that might have indirectly factored into the decision as well, pointing to an excessively patriotic mindset—even though Russians would not appear in the conferences/interact with media. He is slowly becoming abrasive/sour as he sees his chance for international titles slip away. They had never won GPF or an Olympic gold medal. RusFed would have been in a less awkward position if B/K hadn't lost as badly as they did to M/G in RusNats. But they had an awful season.

Junior worlds and junior competitions aren’t kindergartens! They are tested for doping and they are expected to know everything about what they take and indeed challenge all the people around them if they don’t know what they are taking and report anyone to isu or wada. Whatever protected person was intended to mean it didn’t mean ignorance of doping is ok

Meanwhile my 10yo - never tested - asking me to ask the doctor if his allergy pills are ok. Teens aren't dumb, they will contest adults and they knew who were people that were giving them these pills. Parents also knew and yet they let those people give things to their child.

OK, I can beat that. When I was 5 I got suspicious that my mom wasn't telling the truth about Santa Claus. So my sister and I set a trap for her. When we put out the milk and cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, we cleverly kept Santa's thank you note. Then we compared it to our mother's handwriting. Aha!

It's not a heart drug of course the manufacturer attributes all kinds of benefits in the same way energy drink manufacturers attribute all kinds of benefits to syrupy carbonated water.

People take fish oil (do they do that anymore), apple cider vinegar, all kinds of things, vitamins which get flushed out when they pee, and attribute all kinds of benefits. Meldonium probably better than vitamins, but less beneficial than caffeine or L-Carnitine.

Putting Meldonium on the banned list relates to events of 2014 (or more precisely 2013), unfortunately innocent athletes were caught up in it and had their integrity questioned. Serena Williams defends Sharapova to this day.
