Shoma Uno

Thanks for explaining his tweets. I use translation option under his tweets, but most of the time, nothing is understood from the translation. I think machines cannot translate based on context yet. AI is more close to do that, but they sometimes make up ridiciulous connections unfortunately.
No problem! Yeah that tends to happen with machine translation... I also use AI but it really helps when I already know the context of the tweet- Shoma has such witty humor that the Japanese internet love, but it's not easy to explain it in English 🤣

It's really funny how Shoma basically picks up at minimum 500 new followers per every new tweet... what even is his life.

This one is funny and nostalgic:

"What should I do... Back when I was active (as a competing figure skater), I had the unbeatable comeback (in arguments) of 'It's for jet lag adjustment' to justify gaming this late (he tweeted at 4AM), but now I can’t (use the comeback to) win arguments anymore." 😂

Part 2 and 3 of the Mainichi Interview has been posted, but it's paid... the excerpts are really good though:

<From what I’ve heard, your coach, Stéphane Lambiel, seems to have quite a few appearances in this show as well?>

I think it's going to be pretty tough (laughs). I’m not sure what kind of energy level Stéphane will bring, but for me, looking at the past year, I’m pretty much focusing solely on this. When it comes to skating, this “Ice Brave” show represents my current sense of purpose. So naturally, my passion for it is strong. I wouldn’t go so far as to say, “You have to match my level of enthusiasm,” but I will definitely put a bit of pressure on him—like, “You’re at least going to do the minimum properly” (laughs).

<When we met Lambiel at the World Championships in Boston this March, and told him that Uno said, “I’m going to push him hard,” he laughed and said, “OK.”>

Ah, so you told him that (laughs). I also met him about twice over there (for my commentary work), but we didn’t have much time to talk. It was more like, “Hey, it’s been a while,” and we took a quick photo together.

Stéphane already has the skills, of course. What I’m most concerned about is his stamina (laughs). Unlike traditional shows, this one is structured with a small cast, so he’s going to have to do quite a bit. Personally, I tend to push myself to the point where I can’t move anymore—because I kind of enjoy that—but getting injured is the worst-case scenario. So, if I can avoid that...

<From what you've said so far, it sounds like you're giving your all, like it's your first year as a working adult.>

Yeah, that's true. There's the difficulty of being a working adult, and also the challenges of being someone in the public eye... Creating a show is an honor, and it's fun too. If I think about continuing this in the future, I feel like I need to increase my own value and capabilities as a producer—so that people can trust me more and feel at ease leaving things in my hands. I think that alone would make things easier for a lot of people.

I do feel a bit disappointed in myself. It’s not like I have specific regrets, like "I should have done this," but I do think there were things I could have started earlier.

<Even someone like you, Uno, has regrets?>

No, I have absolutely no regrets about my competitive career. But when it comes to how I’ve handled things as a public figure, I have tons of regrets (laughs). Especially with social media. I haven’t really done anything with it. I still don’t even fully understand how to use it. Even when it comes to promoting shows like this, the platforms I can use are limited. I’m still awkward about it, and I keep thinking, “Is this really okay...?”

------------------------------------------------------

The funny thing about Shoma's regrets over social media use is that I'm pretty sure this interview was done in the morning / afternoon of April 24, 2025 , and in the evening of that very day.......... this happened. Even Kurazawa-san tweeted that "Shoma said in the interview that he doesn't know how to use social media... but from what I can see now, he's using it like an expert."

Back from Ireland (and terrible to no WiFi) and having fun getting caught up on the Sho happenings. Zero interest in the gaming. Most important event for me is Happy 5th Birthday to Emma chan. This sweet dog brought us so many happy Sho moments and smiles during the dark days of Covid. We never made the list of Sho pajamas we talked about. Geez, he makes a fashion statement, even with his pajamas! LOL.

Glad to have you back, Arriba. Missing the dogs, too. Hope you enjoyed the Emerald Isle. Can't wait for Shoma's show to begin.
My second time to Ireland ☘️☘️. Probably the only country I've visited where I know I could live very happily. It might take a while to get used to driving on the left side tho!...Not all that much longer until Sho's show!

Anyone notice that on Shoma’s YouTube channel a lot of his original videos disappeared. I don’t think he deleted them but maybe those ones are with the ones viewable only by members. I wanted to see the one when he gets ready backstage for an ice show again.

Yes, most of his videos are now archived as members only videos.

A fan uploaded Shoma's recent local TV appearances to promote Ice Brave on Youtube:

Charge! for Tokai TV (Aichi), with interviews at Osu rink (Nagoya Sports Center) which was Shoma's childhood rink and of course Uno Cafe. He also taught the host a bit of skating at Osu.

Tenjin Now! for Nishinippon TV (Fukuoka) where he strolled at the Tenjin shopping street with the hosts and tried many different foods:

I think Shoma's archiving his quotes on Twitter 🤣 I'm pretty sure I've heard this one from him before somewhere:

"A lot of people are considerate and say things like, 'You're playing games as a break from skating, right?' But in my case, my gaming goes beyond just having fun... so I was actually relieving the stress from gaming... by skating."

Remember when he had the Everyday Shoma calendar? He has so many good and funny quotes in Japanese. It's nice to see him being appreciated as having a great sense of humor by Japanese Twitter users.

Finally more skating content!!! Toyota Times released the second episode of Ice Brave behind the scenes preparation:

Edited to add after watching: such a good video!!

This is really all I wanted when I knew the show has a cast... I loved seeing Shoma's involvement and guidance, especially with the other skaters and choreographer Kenji Miyamoto. Shoma's eye for presentation during his competitive career is so underrated, it's cool to see him share his insights with other skaters, and work with them for new skills and choreography too. Also... costumes preview at the end!!!

I don't really know what Twitter trends have been over the years, but I remember some popular Twitter users publishing their books after gaining some recognition. Maybe Shoma will also write a book in the end.
