Andrew Torgashev

I have a couple more thoughts after seeing Andrew perform last weekend. One is that the modern and edgy style of the new program may be a better fit for him (and more inspiring) than Scheherazade, which he may not have ever fully "felt". I am curious to see if he goes with something classical for the short.

Also, he appeared to be very determined and looked trained and conditioned especially for it still being mid-summer. He is also posting more and seems enthusiastic. Of course, there is no guarantee of a successful season ahead but I am guessing that he is doing all he can to make that happen. ☺️

I listened to both songs and looked up the lyrics and read some interpretations. That made me say, "Huh? What? For a skating program?" I wonder what Andrew would say about why he chose them.

More importantly, though, Andrew's movement to it looks INCREDIBLE!!! What I LOVE about Andrew is, yes, he skates to lyrics, but it doesn't matter whether the audience understands the lyrics or not. Andrew moves based on the music and the musical qualities, independent of the lyrical meaning. He never goes too literal in acting out lyrics, per se. (Maybe French speakers feel differently watching his L'Enfer, but I don't speak French, so...) Whatever story/meaning the music or lyrics have for him personally, he moves on the ice in a way that is accessible to everyone. (Side Note: I hate when T&J feel the need to explain program backstories to us, during the program - just let me watch and hear the program, thank you very much). These songs themselves, I could take or leave (I feel the same way about L'Enfer as a song), but I am SO EXCITED to see how Andrew skates to them and how the program is as a whole. It seems very Andrew.

No news on the SP yet, but I doubt he's doing L'Enfer for a 3rd season. As much as I love it, I hope not. Shae-Lynn did his 25/26 LP and not Misha Ge, which is an interesting tidbit. Yes, 12 seconds was way too short. I WANT MORE!!!

I hope that I'm not overselling it, but what I saw at the ice show could potentially be Andrew's best program. The music worked with the choreography and both fit his style well. He also showed maturity, passion and a commitment to the movements that was noticeable even in such early stages. It built to a very exciting finish and engaged the crowd, which is always a plus.

I am also curious about the SP. He skated to popular music for the intro and finale (Harry Styles and Benson Boone) but could pick something classical. Lots of people are opting for Italian and/or opera this year, but I would personally like to see him go with Russian and dramatic such as Rachmaninoff.

So I can't resist a challenge and I looked up the lyrics.

Okey dokey I see what you mean @skatingfan4ever. Yikes. I think I like the anticlericalism interpretation profferred by that one commentator, otherwise, double yikes.

But L'Enfer was just as yikes. I remember the first time I heard it, I thought, is my French failing me that much, and no it was not.😖 And since I did understand it, I had to lose myself instead in Andrew's passionate and intense performance.

Luckily that is not hard to do. ;)

I could say a lot. Fortunately, I can't express myself in English as well and quickly as I can understand it by ear 😆

Well, I'll try 😄

Firstly, good art gives you the opportunity and the right to choose or create your own meaning. It also gives you the right not to deal with meaning at all. Just enjoy if it sounds as beautiful/cool/beautiful and cool as Oratores or moves on ice like Andrew does.

L'Enfer sounded cool as well. And it had a strong lyrics. This was about the truth of life of many people who have some common mental disorders. The truth is not nice 🤷‍♀️
Me and my friends were convinced that Shae-Lynn's choreo and Andrew's performances were the perfect embodiment of this song on ice, both the music and the lyrics.
He wasn't overacting, he was just perfect as the song itself.

For me personally a meaning of Oratores is clear. It is about some sort of beloved idea/purpose that lives in a person's head and has power over him. Something crucial and extremely strong. The idea/purpose doesn't have a body, but in the song it's embodied in gorgeous female voice.

Of course it's just my personal point of view.
But... look at that 12 seconds 😄
His left hand is placed on his head. Then something moves from the head to the hand. Then it leads him and he looks at it attentively.

Yes, I have read about the original meaning of the song

I mean that some particular idea can become like a personal religion. This is my point.

Anyway, like Leonard Bernstein said
"A work of art does not answer questions, it provokes them, and its essential meaning is in the tension between the contradictory answers."

The end 😂
Thank you if you read this 😄🤦‍♀️

What a lovely clip to come home to, after 9 days of vacation. It reminds me that the season is getting closer! No Cranberry for Andrew this year, but maybe he'll get Lombardia or Nebelhorn? He seems tight-lipped about the SP, and I wonder why. If the LP clips are any indication, I'm not sure how the SP could outshine the LP this year. We'll just have to see!

Andrew posted a clip on his IG stories yesterday inviting people to tune in "next week" to watch the Summer Sizzler on YouTube. So it should appear on USFS YouTube soon enough. I only hope that the audio on Andrew's program won't be muted.

FYI, Andrew's whole LP from the event last evening is posted on his IG account. I don't know how to send the link, but it is in the "tagged' section and looks similar to what I saw last month (with music intact, for now).

Whatever he decides about the short, I think he is smart to emphasize the LP this year and debut it early. He looks very committed to it, as he should be with that choreography.

And, while I'm at it: Michael Parsons & Friends (incl. Andrew) - Sunset Boulevard intro

BTW, I checked and the intro at 2025 Nationals is different. Meaning, they filmed a new intro with Champs Camp/Summer Sizzler skaters. Side Note: I wish OIP would upload Andrew's gala from 2025 Nationals too, but oh well. Andrew also put it in his stories with the caption, "My favorite Broadway Actor."

I could say a lot about the LP. Jump layout looks the same as last season (love the 3Lo out of nowhere). And the rest? I'll summarize and say I have never seen Andrew move quite like this. I look forward to seeing it in full, on camera for real. Chills and thrills, even with this fancam.

Andrew has a new website!

with videos of his "best performances"

and merch:biggrin:

I will say, with all the love I have for Andrew, I wish the merch was more skating centered. If I wear a "Pizza King" t shirt in Eastern PA, folks are going to want to know where the new pizza joint is. ;)

But I guess we are now the Pizza Kingdom.
