Keegan Messing returns to competitive skating

I wonder if this means that somebody (Aleksa Rakic?) will have his Skate Canada spot taken away. Not that I care about mens skating, but it is going to be a fun season.

I was really surprised by this news, especially by the timing. I would have expected him to announce before the Grand Prix assignments, in order to have a full season. Will he even be on the GP replacement list?

Does he just want to do a legal backflip in competition? 🤣

Honestly, I would not be surprised if Skate Canada had encouraged him to unretire.

I would have been happy had he stayed retired. Although I am uncertain if this is true or not, there was a rumor on Twitter about him committing sexual assault, and this colors my current opinion of him in a negative way.
My first thoughts were similar—perhaps Wesley’s injury is more serious than reported, and Skate Canada responded by persuading Keegan to unretire.

Plus they love to promote him, of course. The baby pictures in the KnC. The cowboy hat. The “bromance” with Nam. Now to be combined with a comeback story! Some fans do enjoy these things.

I just saw this on X but I don't believe half the stuff on that platform. People post delusional dribble as fact all the time.
Ran right over to GS to see if it was true and it is. Wishing him the best for the upcoming season!

Keegan is uniquely suited for hyping up Skate Canada during the Olympic season. He's very outgoing and knows how to work a crowd! In addition to the shenanigans you mentioned, I can't help but think of his giant Canadian flag!

The ability to hype is no guarantee of competitive success, though... I suppose we will have to wait and see what happens...

Edit: I was thinking along the lines of Skate Canada having a backup option in case Roman and Gogo implode.

That would be incredibly unfair to Aleksa when Skate Canada assigned him the spot. I know he isn't a fan favourite, but if he's assigned the spot he should keep it.
I agree it would be unfair to take the host spot away from Aleksa now that it has been assigned - particularly when Keegan would have been entitled to non-host spots under the returning skater rule had he announced his intentions slightly earlier.

Wow! I read this on FB. It seems crazy and so late. I admit I like Keegan. I like his skating. And I admit Roman and Stephen have had many years to establish themselves and they have had a wide open door to control the situation They have not grasped the opportunity. As to what is fair I am not sure. But I would die if Keegan do the quad toe and quad lutz. Canada' men have themselves and maybe Michael Slipchuk to blame for their situation. I do wonder though how he is gong to get GP and challenger events. Would he be not like the Shibutanis and could get a spot though too late now? Or do you need a medal. I wonder though is there time for him to get ready and programs. Was he working on them already. What jumps does he have??? Wasnt he scared after seeing Gogo and Roman score over 160 in the long program?

Praise all skating Gods...praise each and every one. My Queen, your turn.
