Is this men's competition this season the weirdiest or what? Nothing can be predicted!!! Really...it's so crazy!!! If this is any indication, this is going to be the craziest worlds ever!!

OMG, that's a MASSIVE score for Patrick!!! He's truly Canada's Boy Wonder!!! (That would make a cute superhero name, wouldn't it? )That number is very close to the SP score Jeff Buttle posted at the 2008 Worlds, which gives you an idea of how AWESOME Patrick's performance must have been. :agree:

At least Brian's PCS is very good; so it is a jumping problem. Patrick got a great score; he did not do a quad either, did he?

No Patrick doesn't have a quad yet. His goal this year is to add a second 3A.

If Chan and Kozuka skate cleanly in the LP they may well stay ahead of Joubert. He's got to hope that they make mistakes, and he's got to do the quad and everything else clean. Otherwise he's probably looking at bronze.

This season is so strange so far. I really don't know what to make of it.

I wouldn't rush to hand this one to Chan. Joubert made a mistake - he might make another in the LP - but Chan's lead over the next three skaters is not insurmountable. People tend to forget just how much ground can be made up in an LP; it's not factored placements like 6.0. Chan had better skate cleanly and with all his planned content if he wants to win.

Oh I wasn't aware of his score. I only tuned in at the very last minute and saw Brian. And then I forgot to check the scores in the thread. But you're right, Brian can make that up if he skates well.

My biggest question: How many points does one get for a cheated single toe loop? Oh Brian! And I am not sure of the rule. Is it any 3 jumps required in the SP or are they named? If the rule says double or triple and the skater does only a single, how bad is that in fulfilling the requirement?

Other than all that, I like Brian's routine. It's that steady heavy beat music that is easy to follow and he does that well.

And Kozuka, that bland Brazilian fox trot music with no change of pace and not even a swell in the score did not get to me. However, the tricks were fine.

Chan is the MAN, whether it is tricks or musicality. He has it all.

Preaubert who is very musical did a fine job and the tricks were there. Score could have been higher, imo.

Bradley someone has to tell him that his music is for Amercians only. He did some nice content of program but they did not please the judges due to music choice, imo.

Sad for Lutai because I think he has the flow of skating better than anyone else in the competition.

wow. I think the Japanese guy will win becasue Chan hasn't has much sucess wit the 2 triple axels. I never saw Brian pop the quad before.... usually he at least goes for it and falls. I hope he is OK.

I was planning to watch the SP but Eurosport was showing snooker instead.:scowl:

A popped jump is as costly a mistake as they come - and if it was quad-to-single, that's even worse than UR. It's also a very uncharacteristic mistake for Joubert - like Tinymavy15, my impression is that he goes for it with quads and, worst case scenario, ends up falling. I'm surprised. I would have guessed the painted ice is the culprit, but it didn't seem to affect anyone else. Strange.

I really hope Joubert skates well tomorrow and wins despite the mistake today (Eurosport's not going to be showing that, either). I know Chan is almost universally beloved here but he doesn't do anything for me.

He did just a single toeloop?! Base value 0.4.... I think I read yesterday that 3A is this seasons required jump in the SP.

I have to agree with you Chan does not do anything for me either neither does the other young skater from Japan, his name escapes me at the moment. I hope that Brian wins, it will help his confidence and start the season off on a good foot (no pun intended) for him

Did he change his SP music? He skated to Take Five at Skate America and I loved that program....
