2025 CS Lombardia Trophy Men's Short Program

Damn, Malinin was fun. Can't wait to see the final costuming, hope he will have it in Saskatoon. I assume that the split is a gamer playing the game, since unlike AC PoP didn't have modern day protagonist genetically connecting to an assassin from the past as far as i know.

Nah, you're not a weirdo. Different strokes for different folks. I see you noticed what Cedric did with the arrangement. I liked it too. The step sequence was great!
The great thing when you have boring music is that you can make it better for skating by thinking about it in terms of elements. The way it sets up the jumps and then builds up gradually into the climax (steps) is well done.

I think I found one other person in this entire forum who doesn't mind Adam's costume and it's @el henry and we are both very smart people LOL so I am fine with that ;)

Absolutely obsessed with Ilia’s fun and dynamic program! Loved every moment. I also love his good sportsmanship- cheering on Kao and giving him friendly advice. If only the whole skating community could follow their example :)

I enjoyed Matteo’s program and think it has promise! Nice quad from Kyrylo! Naumov had some strong skating -sad about the 3A, but still a good program. I had never seen Corentin Spinar skate before, but I liked his style

Ilia looks very confident and I can see the strides he has made with his artistry. Too bad about Yuma's leg cramp, but he did well considering and I like the jazzy style on him. Adam's costume and the artsy choreography are "interesting", but he is always dynamic.

Too bad about Shun looking shaky, but Kao was fast and impressive. I like both Matteo and Nikolaj's programs, they are making a strong case for Milano. Max's program is lovely and his season is off to a good start.

I think I understand what he's trying to go for, but the transition in the music needs to be a little better. The first half is wandering around, and acquiring the stuff you need before you engage in the fight that you need to win to beat the level which is the second half of the program.

I've never played the game that this program is based on, so I have no idea how the actual game mechanics work, so I'm working off my general knowledge of video games that my friends have talked about. I've played my fair share of computer games, but I was always more of a Sims, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc. type of gamer.
I'm too old to even understand half of what you've said LOL.

And that's fine... but I've always believed the program should stand independent of a backstory. In one sense, I suppose this one does, in that the music suits his style, and it's authentic to himself. I just like the first part a lot better than the second.

But the strength of the elements (except that combo spin... I'm still not sure why that got a V), the energy he brings, the speed, the confidence... if he skates like, he's not going to be beaten.

I'm not a big costume fretter. If he likes it, it's fine.

I didn't even realize that Ilia skated in practice gear. I thought that was his "real" costume, and I was fine with that, too.

But I do find it ironic that those who complain about boring costumes are so critical of Adam's. Whatever else, it's not boring. He's got half the skating internet talking about what it means. If it's supposed to be Vitruvian Man as some suggest, then he should go full bore, wiener and all. to be true to DaVinci's original drawing. Give 'em something to talk about.

See.. I thought Ilia's costume was practice gear.... but some people say it's just an unfinished costume. :)

I'm pretty sure I recall an after-skate interview in which he said his costumes for this season weren't ready yet, so he skated in practice gear because he wanted to get his programs out there. That was my first inkling that it wasn't the real costume,

And I might be mistaken, but I think it was a GoldenSkate reporter conducting the intervew...

I think Ilia's costume was not what he will wear at Olympics. Even though QuadGod is not an official sport trademark yet the logo on the neck of his shirt was too big. Logos other than the federation ones are not allowed at Olympics as far as I know. So I am sure we will see something different at other competitions

Good grief, Ilia Malinin flew 13 points above the field in the SP, in a jam-packed competition that included the likes of Kagiyama, Mura, Siao Him Fa, Memola ... Is it time to re-evaluate the scoring system and re-think where the sport is headed?

Yuma's skating with lower BV due to an injury and everyone else was messy, plus Yuma and Adam are totally capable of reaching that score when clean. I definitely wouldn't push the panic button on "the state of the sport as a whole", imo I thought the results were pretty fair (especially bc Lombardia is often generous with the top skaters).

So we're supposed to get rid of the Kiss and Cry and suddenly change the scoring system because someone scored 108 something in a short program despite the fact it has already been done many times in men's skating over the years.

Is there a full moon?

Yuma and Adam are perfectly capable of reaching this score. Yuma needs to be healthy and needs to eat more chocolate - it works wonders for cramps. Adam needs to be healthy and stop adaming...

I don't know. Yes, others, not just Ilia are capable ofle of scoring well. Still, the only way to do it is to land a flurry of advanced quads, and nothing else seems to matter much. To me, this is sort of disappointing. YMMD.

No, you just need to actually watch the competition and you’ll understand why Ilia has such a lead.

Siao Him Fa was messy. Very messy. Miura wasn’t as messy, but my hopes for the free certainly aren’t high. Memola has a BV disadvantage and his skating skills are as weak as Ilia’s. Worse really.

Kagiyama was easily the best of this lot but he stopped in the middle of his program to tend to a cramp. This obviously will affect the second mark. He also did a 3-3 instead of a 4-3.

There’s nothing to reevaluate.
