I agree on some of your points but I really enjoyed the evening. Best wishes to all my fav skaters in the Free. Its gonna be one heck of a show.Quick and probably worthless two cents: I love my girl Haein but her cover of My Way is literally the worst cover of My Way I've ever heard (the choreo is actually nice, which makes the pain greater), Ahsun's East of Eden is pretty and nice although she needs more mileage (naturally, the program is about a month old), Sakamoto Kaori's Time To Say Goodbye was my favorite program of the bunch, Yamashita Mako's The Lark Ascending is quite lovely and I want to see her skate it clean, Chiba Mone returned to Last Dance which was probably the right choice since I was never into her Sakura Sakura (I had a lot of issues with the cuts and composition), maybe I'm just stressed and tired but I am not liking most new senior programs so far which does not help with my mental health, and thus the cycle continues
All the power to you Chris, contrary to popular opinion I don't actually enjoy being a grouch and I truly wish I could find more enjoyment than pain, I'm glad to hear that you got to enjoy the competition more than I didI agree on some of your points but I really enjoyed the evening. I haven't seen any of the skating... and I know Maddie is not the best in PCS. But a clean program versus one with two falls... and that program with two falls done by Rinka who is definitely not the best Japanese skater when it comes to PCS... I found it strange that the flawed program was scored higher in PCS... just saying.Saki getting 34 PCS is the dopamine hit I have earned today. Also love the budget increase for the dress.
Was curious about the Mako - Rinka - Hana bunch. Rinka getting the highest PCS among them is probably a 3A attempt bonus (?!?!?) a bit random, but I do think her performance was the most nuanced of the three, so far away from how she was back in 2022 when she first skated Roxanne. Mako skated really pretty well. I have always find Hana's skating gimmicky and juniorish, and her program does nothing to change my opinion.
I eventually gave up on it because of the buffering. Hopefully you have better bandwidth than I do.i got in, i got it to work, but it's buffering from time to time...better than nothing
Huge, huge jumps, soft knees, Japanese basics. I find her a strong if not necessarily the most compelling (style-wise) skaterI don't know Saki. She must be very good because on top of high PCS and GOE she couldn't get tech bonus points with her combo here being the simplest one.
What @Ichatdelune said, and also a matter of a perfect match between skater and program with the (recycled) Think of Me SP. Like there is not a foot wrong in the way that program is choreographed and how Saki skated it. She's much much weaker in the FS (tech and program wise) so that's where she's vulnerable of getting overtaken.I don't know Saki. Anyone want some smoke? I am at the blue dot.
I am looking forward to watching her.Huge, huge jumps, soft knees, Japanese basics. I find her a strong if not necessarily the most compelling (style-wise) skater
Again, I am looking forward to discovering her. It seems like each year, there is a new Japanese skater who is just a wonderful (for me) discovery. What @Ichatdelune said, and also a matter of a perfect match between skater and program with the (recycled) Think of Me SP. I don't know... Maybe Rinka's program is more compelling... Will have to watch but two major mistakes should be more costly than overdone facial expressions. This being said, I like Maddie being fierced in that section of the SP. She is embodying the black swan mood in there which is what the program is all about. I think she could improve the steps, and as a matter of fact, she only got level 2 here. But, that's something to consider, the problem is not PCS for me... it's technical. She's never had the best step sequences and she should lose levels and GOE for them, and she does. So should she also be penalized in terms of PCS for that ? Maybe a bit in skating skills... but not necessarily for the rest.Among the non-Japanese, I enjoyed Madeline the most today. The immersion between her and her program is a lot better than Bradie's (there's one thing I HATE is choppy sharp movements with flowing music and after 10 seconds of Bradie skating I just closed the window because I hate how discordant it was).
I think the components difference with Rinka is just there is this one section of Madeline's Black Swan SP that I find discordant between the flow of the music and the intense physical and facial expression she was making (step sequence), while Rinka doesn't have that.
It pays to be dumb about skating and just enjoy the artistry! LOL!All the power to you Chris, contrary to popular opinion I don't actually enjoy being a grouch and I truly wish I could find more enjoyment than pain, I'm glad to hear that you got to enjoy the competition more than I did
