Our 3 time Novice champion Sumika Kanazawa will have international debut.
She performed at 2022 NHK trophy exhibition.
Back then she was Novice B champion.
I have been waiting this for 3 years from that time.

ETA: 2022 NHK trophy exhibition

Geoblocked in Japan, US, France. Germany, Italy etc
Unblocked in Canada, UK, Poland, Netherland, Spain, Singapore etc.

I wonder if Ted remember this performance.

Does anybody have any updates on Wakaba's health?

Japanese translated:

"Thank you so much for all your support. And I'm sorry for causing you so much worry. From here on out, I will give it my all in the remaining matches, and this is just the beginning. I am truly here thanks to all the support I have received. I will definitely turn that into strength and do my best, so please continue to support me! "

Ya’ll awfully quiet in here for how awesome the ladies have been doing! Four junior ladies might make the JGPF! Little Mao won her competition but she doesn’t have the highest score, senior or junior! Chiba is on top of the SB list! Watanabe landed a 3A+3T! Most importantly, Sumiyoshi won her first-ever Challenger, almost breaking 210 in the process!

…and I’m sounding off if Miyake doesn’t get the host spot at NHK!

I think it's because the GP season hasn't started yet and these competitions are pretty meaningless to the older girls. As far as Olympic selection goes, it's pretty obvious the Fed has decided on Chiba as the heir apparent "chosen one" with Kaori in her final season. So there is only one spot open and since Wakaba has never been on the Feds favorites list, she had better be razor sharp at Nationals or someone else will be sent.

I mean, all this isn't that surprising 😅

- the post-COVID Japanese junior girls are pretty much guaranteed to be good when they hit the JGP for the first time (especially the ones already handpicked by Kinoshita Academy), it's whether they can last or not that's the question: Rena Uezono obviously have been struggling with her growth spurt while Kaoruko Wada is Satoko's carrot queen heir apparent at the moment

- little Mao has a lingering injury that cause her pain already while still doing her quads and triple axels (pray for her to not end up like Rika Kihira)

- Mone is the only one serious and consistent enough in the beginning of the season + has good enough sense to repeat her SP (Kaori is unserious at the moment and should leave her seriousness for the actual season)

- Rinka is Rinka (crazy and free), whenever you think she has lost her 3A she'll be throwing herself and land an incredibly beautiful one randomly and add a combo to prove you wrong

- and Rion has always been great (and repeats her FS) so it's only a question of when she has a good day while others don't.

I feel like we all know that it will once again come down to the Japanese Nationals for the Olympic spots, so... I'm keeping quiet out of stress and trying to keep my hopes down.

The Japanese women are my favorite skaters in pretty much every competition. I'm just nervous who is making the team. I want it to be Mai, Wakaba, and Kaori but I know thats not likely...

I totally agree with your first sentence. I love the Japanese women.:love2: However my favorites at the moment are Rino, Mone, and Rion.

The thing that's interesting to me is JSF had this "Athletes who have not yet met the Olympic minimum score will be sent to the Golden Spin." elaboration in their document.

- Target competitions: East Japan and West Japan sectionals.
- From these, the highest-scoring athlete who meets the standard (Men: 271, Women: 205) will be selected.

It's interesting because it really opens up the Olympic spots for the Japanese single skaters who are not invited to the GP. So... technically someone who is not Kaori or Mone can score more than 205+ at sectionals, go to Golden Spin and win Nationals and get sent to the Olympics.

There are some Japanese women who I think can do this- Mai Mihara, Rika Kihira, Mana Kawabe...

I am new to this site but have realized this and the American women page don't get a lot of traffic like the Canadian one so I will try to keep it more lively since those are the skaters I pay the most attention to.

Mayuko Oda and Haruna Murakami are next up again on the jgp and they were the absolute standouts for me so far. I wish for both of them to be in the final and still annoyed Haruna was not bronze in Ankara tbh.

The NHK host spot goes to Yuna Aoki! (Rather unusual…I thought it might go to Saki or Mana. But Yuna definitely gets two crowd-pleasing programs)
I saw a discussion on Twitter earlier about Yuna likely getting the NHK spot because there is no woman in the West Japan Sectionals that gets an exemption because of NHK Trophy, while Haru Kakiuchi got one (the NHK spot for Men). Meaning the host pick for NHK Trophy is likely a woman from East Japan Sectionals who has yet to have a GP assignment or 2 GP assignments, which did lead to Yuna.

I wonder if JSF looked at the West Japan competitors (Saki, Mako, Rika, Mai) and was like, you know what we're not gonna pick one over the other, let them do the hunger games and just give NHK to Yuna, she's great and only has 1 GP 😂

I just can't with the fact that Mako is not competing in the Grand Prix. Her jumps are absolutely the best among the Japanese ladies and some of the most impressive in the world right now. Her 3Lz-3T is to die for.

Ah, sad that we still don't get to see her back, but I'm glad she's really prioritizing full recovery now instead of trying to chase the very very small chance of getting into the 2026 Olympic team.

I've been thinking whether it's worth for her to come back this season, as everyone will be upping their game trying to get that Oly spots.

Probably it is better for her to wait another year, then she'll have another 3 years to rebuild her skills & reputation going to 2030 Olys. Imagine how cool it would be to have Rika Kihira & Mao Shimada in the same Olys team! But if Olympic is no longer her goal, then that's fine too. Whatever her goal is, I hope we get to see her back again someday and that she'll have a fulfilling career for herself 🤍

I think her injury has fully healed, as she has been practicing in Canada and landing triple jumps. It seems she doesn’t want to rush things when she has almost no chances of qualifying for the Olympics. I wonder why she didn’t want to compete, though. Maybe she didn’t have her programs ready to perform, or a strong enough technical program yet. Or maybe she doesn’t feel comfortable or consistent enough for competitions

Yuna Aoki has been cutting off her social media use, and it's because of the reactions around her NHK Trophy host spot allocation. Yuna herself already knew for 2 months that she won the NHK Trophy host spot, but because of the announcement timing happening after other skaters competed, there were a lot of speculations on social media that wore her down. Rinka Watanabe advised her to stop looking at social media and Yuna now refreshed herself with cycling and walking while listening to music.

Ugh, I know that the news of Yuna getting the host spot is accompanied by JSF explanation on their selection criteria (for the Women, the NHK selection event, for the Men, the NHK selection event + Kinoshita Cup results), but I wish they could have announced Yuna earlier because the optics aren't great after Saki Miyake did really really well at Kinoshita Cup....

I know these problems aren't new but yeah, it's always the skaters who have to read those comments.

The women’s short program was held, and Yuna Aoki (MF Academy) scored 64.19 points. She successfully landed a triple Lutz–triple loop combination at the beginning, followed by a double Axel (2.5 rotations) and a triple flip. Reflecting with a smile after a clean performance, she said, “There were some lost levels and under-rotations, so it wasn’t a perfect 100, but considering it was 8 a.m., I think I adjusted well in my own way.”
Just a few days earlier, on the 16th, it was announced that she would compete in the NHK Trophy (to be held November 7–9 in Osaka). Given recent results in international competitions, some fans had voiced support for other skaters. Aoki commented with a smile, “I had known about my selection for about two months already, so I was determined to compete. I did see some of the speculation and rumors flying around,” but she also revealed, “Mentally, I was a bit worn down.”
Rinka Watanabe advised her, “It’s better not to look at social media,” so Aoki cut herself off from it for about a week. She now refreshes herself with cycling and listening to music while walking.
Her previously injured right ankle is recovering well. With major events like the NHK Trophy coming up, she said she is currently focusing on “developing the mental strength to overcome pressure.” Looking ahead to the free skate on the 20th, she cheerfully said, “I want to land the Lutz–loop combination.”
