2025 Skate to Milano Pairs Short Program

OMG. I know that rep for Audrey and Balazs has not been good, but right from the start, they were low-balled on GOE for the 3-twist. That was a very good 3-twist. I know the jumps were out of sync, but boy, judges do not usually take off like that when the jumps are landed. I didn't see what happened on the death spiral, but I see it's being explained. They are a btter team that what they showed. But for goodness sake, it was obvious the judges did NOT have a high impression of them at all. They needed to at least be 61 to 62 to give themselves a fighting chance.
I disagree. The twist was good in the air, but there was a slight bit of touching on the catch, which might not have been caught by judges from a different angle, but they did from this angle. And the jump GOE is very much in line with what they showed and what other pairs with similar jumps (i.e. completely not in synch) have received (see the Polish pair for some examples). Synchronisation isn't just optional in pairs skating, it's required.

I also would not count out the Kovalevs, if they are healthy. In any case, they are already eligible to compete in the 2026 Olympics team competition, so qualifying here for the individual pairs event would just be icing on the cake for the Kovalevs.
They did really well at French Masters recently.

I just knew Cami and Pavel would do something funny coming into the arena.

They came out together, and then she continued walking, while he stopped, gave her a 3 second headstart, and then started running. And caught up with her just before she reached the gate.

How do you run in skates?!

Oooh nice costumes. Particularly Camille's dress.

Lovely throw when the cameras started to focus on them.

Mark telling us a story. They arrived later than planned because somebody took ill on their flight. I hope that person is OK.

But, not ideal for Camille and Pavel.

The next time the cameras showed them, Camille and Pavel were warming up separately. But, that is normal for them. They only come together to practice elements.

Two partnerships, and then they are on.

Great start for Sofia and Artem but after nailing their big elements they somehow lost the momentum and messed up the last part. Hand down on the throw but it's a huge throw so that's not too costly for them.

I totally missed that the Master's had happened. I only found out last night when I went to update their Fan Fest with this season's info. Which is why the update hasn't been done yet - I want to watch their Master's skates first. But, with it being discovered last night and the action starting so early this morning, I havent had a chance yet.

The Kovalevs were very good at the French Masters. If they skate like they did there, they will qualify.

Eh, at this high profile event, judges are feeling their beans. Plenty of comps judges go easy on heavy contact on twist dismounts! For e.g., notorious high GOE for Miura/Kihara all the time on their twists, which look good in the air, but always clear contact on the dismount. Miura is always making obvious contact with Kihara's shoulder and chest!

As well, landing jumps out of sync may get low GOE for many teams, but not minus GOE. It depends on the event, skater rep, politics, judging panels. To say otherwise is ignoring the truth of what goes on in this sport. It is what it is.

Audrey and Balasz did not make contact to my eyes on the twist dismount. Certainly not anywhere to the point of deserving minus GOE! Politics abounds.
