This is troubling. No coach? What is happening?

I am so sad for Deniss; I don't what is happening toi the scenes, but this is not good. 
I hope that some coach steps up for him to sit in the KnC like Stéphane did for Shoma. I vote for Brandon Frazier, he seems to be a calming presence with Andrew T., and he will be at CoC for pairs, so no conflict of interest. Just a wild thought....

It is sad. I don't know what happened with his federation. Speculation is that they were withholding funds for his
training with Team Champery. Why they were doing this is anyone's guess. Deniss leaving in an Olympic year
does seem like the reason was his Federation would not pay Team Champery. I don't think he had falling out with his
coach and trainers. He has been treated shabbily for sure.

That they were withholding funds isn't speculation, Deniss Vasiljevs wrote as much in his Ko-fi pages. They paid part of what they owed him some weeks ago, but it looks (this is speculation) like they still didn't pay the rest, and force him to leave Champéry?
Me four.
It's shocking that he's been treated like this - he's such a brilliant athlete, but also, such a great ambassador for the sport, and for Latvia.

They have a gem (who brought Latvia their first European medal, not to mention the podiums at the Junior level), and they treat him like trash.
Deniss strikes me as a very intelligent young man, so I'm sure that he will do fine for himself in any field. If he gets disgusted by what is happening, it will be Latvia's loss.
I wish he were granted a bit of peace of mind while preparing for the Olympic Games.
So Deniss decided to keep La Bayadère as his FS. I was really looking forward to his Bond, but I completely understand his decision: he kept saying he wasn't sure about the program yet, that it still needed a lot of work. La Bayadère is a safe choice, because it's a beautiful and unique routine.
I'm curious about his new SP; I hope it will work well. (In case he prefers to return to something older, I'd love to see Sarakiz again

I think that is a good decision. Plus I read that there were possible problems with music rights.So Deniss decided to keep La Bayadère as his FS. I was really looking forward to his Bond, but I completely understand his decision: he kept saying he wasn't sure about the program yet, that it still needed a lot of work. La Bayadère is a safe choice, because it's a beautiful and unique routine.

I love all his short programs, so I don't care which one he uses.

If things are really bad, and it seems they are, and his funding got cut, he at least needs some pro to look after him in daily training, e.g. to correct his jumps. I suppose he was told to go back home to Latvia, but he found this option and decided it would be better for him. Good for him. It makes total sense that he went all by himself - traveling to China is expensive.

I didn't realize Roman was training Pitot there so this would make sense. I hope it's true and gives him the confidence to perform under these circumstances.
A few details:
The Latvian weekly newspaper Diena notes that Deniss had one option in Germany, but it didn't work out because in the middle of the Olympic season, all coaches are busy working with their top athletes.
The Latvian Federation has also not commented on the reasons for why Deniss left Lambiel or the skater's future plans, as they still have no official information.
P.S. It is also said that Sofia Stepcenko has retired.
