2025 Skate America Practice Reports

Starr has been around it seems like for a while in singles. Maybe it is just mean. AT one point she seemed to be part of the future of women's skating but she never really made the top level and in past years has "regressed" and that potential seemed gone or lost. I am happy for her if she is going to make a run at pairs thoguh sometimes I feel it is more of a second choice but a lot of ladies especially do it because they can't land enough big jumps to be honest. But pairs isn't easy. Besides synchronization a big thing is lifts, throw jumps, pair spins, twists and death spirals are very very different skills. Plus you need to be able to blend and interpret with another arist on ice. Nt easy. The only thing easy is that in the uS pair skaters switch partners all the time so there may be opportunities.

Please remember that Starr has also dealt with serious health issues with her heart, and she is still finding ways to enjoy what she loves-skating

She also has had injuries that prevented her from doing lutz and flip for quite a while. I was happy to see her do a good lutz in yesterday’s runthrough.

It's too early for me to be up on a Saturday, but if the French sisters in the audience can do it, so can I. My time zone is earlier, though. The sisters brought flags and banners in their luggage, apparently, and they are going to use them.

Jean-Luc isn't on the feed commenting right now on Peacock for ice dance.

Theo is one of the most musically interpretive male ice dancers out there right now (and Loicia has grown into matching his energy in her own way).

I actually think LaLa's sports number is really smart. Marjo is really great at matching whatever music she is skating to, facial expression-wise.

I'm calling Christina's dress (purple/gold) '90s Latin Grammies realness.

Daft Punk music is clearly not a hardship for Geoffrey to skate to and he is living his best life.

Gamez and Korovin? Spencer adn Emily at least can "act" while perfoming.

I'm pretty worried for them. Where they are now seems to be where they are. The throws and the sbs jumps are going to be hit or miss. I'm not sure time will help what seems to be a chronic inconsistency. It hurts to see a dream possibly slipping away for them. They would be my pick for second team but if others are better then they will earn that spot. I love their performance qualities and sense of drama but it is a sport and points count.

I love Wakaba. And what a GORGEOUS costume. I hope she has a skate she is happy with, especially if she is still injured. I'll always remember her joy last year at Sk Amer when she won gold.
