The opening day of the British Championships begin now with a Basic Novice FS triple-bill, and then finish with the Advanced Novice Ladies SP.

The Basic Novice competitions consist of 1 Pairs partnership; followed by a group of 5 boys; followed by 35 girls.

Livestream for the Basic Novice Pairs FS is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

All the other information you may need can be found in the OP of this thread.

Hope this helps

:cheer: ALL THE BEST EVERYBODY!!! :cheer:

Warming up to "Reach" by S Club 7.

That'll get them going!

Oh no. Ellie-May had a hard fall just before the 1 minute warning. I think she's hurt herself.

She's having a big drink of water. Hopefully that'll help her.

Well, they're carrying on.

Ellie-May COLEY / William SANDELANDS (OXF) were skating to a "Lion King" programme.

Well, if she is hurt, it didn't show during the programme.

Mind you, she did bend over double momentarily after they finished.

Jenny Bill came back over the tannoy to tell them that there were items on the ice for them, but I don't think they heard.

After they sat down, a girl arrived with a lion for each of them.

They win. Obviously.

And with that, I have to leave for food. Boys on the ice.

I came back in time to watch a piano skating!

The last of the boys, Hugo BROOKS (Blackburn) was wearing a black jumpsuit, with a keyboard down the whole of the front left hand side. And there were stars and notes scttered across the rest of the front.

Suffice to say, he was skating to Elton John. Specifically "I'm Still Standing".

Not bad. But, I haven't seen the others, so don't know what they were like in comparison.

He finishes in 3rd position.

Just while we have a short break for the panel changing, I want to tell you a story.

Thanks to watching the Pairs competition, I was singing this in my head the whole time I was eating:

Lester Flatt And Earl Scruggs - "The Ballad Of Jed Clampett"

Imagine naming your child after one of the Beverly Hillbillies...

(By the way, I started watching the series last year, and I LOVE it!)

The break was shorter than I expected - we're already into the last minute of the Group 1 Warm-Up!

My eyes have been watering a lot the past few days. And the first girl skating to "Tomorrow" from "Annie" isn't helping.

That song always gets to me. I was in a production of "Annie" when I was at school. (OK, so I was an extra, but still).

Rather than the red dress that you normally associate with Little Orphan Annie, she was wearing a yellow dress. So, I take it she was taking the song literally, and portaying the sun.

She goes into the lead. Obviously.

She's happy.

I agree I was impressed with the young Pair from Oxford who did all their elements cleanly despite a terrible warm up. The boy has a nice style and flow on the ice, and if they stay together could have a promising future.

For those in North America BIS adopts the ISU categories of Basic and Advanced Novice rather than Juvenile as you do in competitions.

I was so impressed with young Liam Crosby from Sheffield in the Boys Basic Novice Free Skating. He came 2nd as he didn't do a double axel like the winner, but had everything else, such poise, lovely carriage and arm movements like a dancer, he even bowed stylishly. He had good spins and musicality if not the harder jumps, but he looks very young, and so happy in the Kiss & Cry. Such a joy to see a young boy caring about the aesthetics and not just the jumps.

Basic Novice Girls Free Skating in progress.

Such a pity there's only a few relatives there, and empty stands, but who knows this event is even taking place? 😔

Lovely to see my "kid" Zoe Jones sitting with the girl with the Polish name.

Zoe and Chris are building up quite a stable of skaters.

Katarzyna PAWLOWSKA (Swindon) goes into 5th position.

Resurfacing now, so I'm going to catch up on some of the boys that I missed.

Yes, we need young partnerships like this coming through. We might have a decent number of Junior partnerships now, but we need to prepare for the future. So the more the merrier!

We're back. But the sound isn't.

Ah, it's back now. Jenny is just finishing the introductions.

It's not that much of a problem in the competitions being held today, but I do find it frustrating that there are so many skaters who do not have their clubs listed. For goodness sake, there are more gaps than named clubs in the Advanced Novice Ladies. :drama:

I always assumed that when this happened, it was because the skaters belonged to clubs located in other countries. But, the seventh girl to skate in this Basic Novice competition was down as Dundee at the August Qualifier. The club even wished her luck in a social media post yesterday. Yet she has a blank in the Club column on the Entries / Results page here.

Were the forms for Nationals just not filled out properly?

P.S. In case you're wondering how I came across that post when I have pretty much given up on social media, I am making a point of keeping an eye on some pages at the moment, because I have a feeling that there is a retirement announcement coming shortly. (Before you panic, it's not a British skater).

I gave up Instagram 3 years ago and though that's where every skater appears to post news these days, I don't regret it. Thankfully Golden Skate still posts on X with competition photos and quotes from the mixed zone, which is extremely helpful. Thank you Paula for staying on there. 🥰

Only got the first three boys fitted into the last resurfacing, so I just watched him there now.

I agree! He was very good.

And I loved that he was skating to a more traditional skating piece, "Otoñal" by Raúl Di Blasio. I wish more skaters would go down that route.

I look forward to seeing him in the years to come.

Yipes. Didn't realise the Warm-Up had started, because the sound hasn't come back.

As you know, I'm not on Twitter (I refuse to call it by the current silly name), and for non-members it is nigh-on impossible to use now. When we visit somebody's page, it either says they have not posted yet (when you know they have), or it has them all jumbled up, showing mainly posts that are years old.

But, I have recently found a site, sotwe, that lets you view people's Twitter pages with the posts in the correct order. So, I have started visiting the pages I used to visit again, but this time through it. Including your's.

By the way, I made a video for Marilena's 21st birthday a few weeks ago, and included a screenshot that you had taken and posted to Twitter of her waiting for her results at the 2020 Budapest Trophy. So, thank you for making it!  :points:

:thank:

Thankfully, the sound came back during the second skater in the group.

Now that makes a change. Somebody skating to "Mars" rather than "Jupiter".

Good to hear that somebody has discovered that there is more than one planet in the solar system!

Unfortunately, it was not a perfect skate for Arina ZUBOVA-COLLINGWOOD (Sheffield).

She goes into 19th position.

You're most welcome! 🤗 I saw that video to a Snow Patrol song, but I'd forgotten about the photo! I hope Marilena appreciated her special gift.

Also welcome back to my twitter page. 👍 🖐️ I see Torvill & Dean were in Belfast last Friday for Mary Peter's Trust 50th Anniversary as guest speakers. Thankfully the Belfast Telegraph covered it, but I had to wait till the weekend to see the video and photos which initially were behind a pay wall.
