2025-26 Grand Prix Final Women's Free Skate

Sometimes Mie Hamada can’t hide her emotions anymore. She acts very motherly when she’s in the mood, but in practice we don’t really know how she treats her students. What’s clear is that she’s very strict and she's scary...
This is the true tragedy of artistic sports. The abuse. At least Mone is an adult, she's 20 years old. She has a right to put up with the strict/ borderline abusive coaching if she thinks it benefits her but Mie Hamada has so many young students. It troubles me so much.

At this point, I don’t know if it’s better for Alysa to keep these programs. She’s been competing with them all season and getting credit for them anyway. Changing her long program might make her lose focus. To think Ami could have won here if she had been clean in either the short or the free, but what a senior debut for her. If you ask me, the Olympic gold medal could go to anyone competing here. Rinka Watanabe sold this program better when she performed it in the 2022–23 season. She’s very ambitious for attempting two triple axels, but her lack of presentation and her rotation issues won’t favor her in the Olympic selection.

Why would it? I'm not a particular fan of Alysa's skating.( I'm a fan of her weird personality) I'm not upset when her URs are mentioned. She does Ur sometimes. I just find it ironic how some people only focus on the URs of skaters from certain countries and not others. Of this field, Rinka, who I actually like more than Alysa or Mone, is that skater who URs the most but I don't see you posting all her URs. Alysa and Mone both have jumps that border on the UR/ Q range. Similar rotation levels , why don't you note every jump Mone URs? Ami Kaori and Amber are less prone to URs but I'm sure you could find some if you check in slowmo. The panel here was equally lenient for all. If you truly want to go back and review all the jumps, have fun. Imho no one has been robbed this year. Some panels have been stricter, some more lenient but they have been relatively consistent.
Ah but I react only to uncalled errors. And here I wasn't searching them particularly, but during Alysa Liu's skate I was surprised not to be irked by the rotations (in fact, irked from knowing that they wouldn't be called) so I checked during the Slow Motion and all the jumps shown were either fully rotated, or lacking less than a quarter. They didn't show the 3Lz + 3T in slow motion as far as I remember but the score sheets are just out and the 3T after the 3Lz has even got a q call. Her Technical score looks accurate at first sight, I'm unable to check Spins.
As to Mone Chiba, she got outright << calls on her fallen 3Lo and 3S. I didn't watch the slow motion I confess. I need some coping. They were underrotated anyway.

It’s so weird to see an Olympic rink packed full in Japan just happily celebrating these three women for the longest time, with a US winner in this and two of the other GPF events. Where in the US the venues are half empty and live broadcasts are now pretty nonexistent.

I’m really glad skating remains super popular elsewhere, and even if NBC/Peacovk pull back on the US side even more after the Olympics, we’ll all still have other ways to follow.

I think that it has long been so? That Japanese public applauds to US victories, even when undeserved? This behaviour has been baffling non-Japanese fans for long.

I think my favorite SP of this quad in women was Kaori’s 2023 season SP to the Janet Jackson medley. I enjoy Alysa’s SP as well.

And that carefree attitude is winning her gold medals at big competitions while everyone else stumbled soooooooo......

Enjoying life and winning competitions, she's having her cake and eating it too 😌 would be funny if she annoys her way to Olympic gold.

Ignoring her URs is winning her gold medals, dear, when you know judges treat you differently it is easier

She didn't care anyway when the panels were calling her early in her comeback, so nothing changed for her 🤣
so she is a figure skater because she doesnt care, doenst give a sh*** etc etc etc . If I would be receving those scores with such skating, basic , urs and flat edges, knowing that I dont deserve it I would be happy and carefree too

As soon as I saw the look on Mone's face before she skated I knew she was finished. It was similar at Nationals last year. Unfortunately for her, this competition was so leniently judged, all she had to do was stay on her feet to win, but the pressure got to her.

Alysa should have gotten a UR for her combo. But, Ami should have gotten a UR for her 3A. And both should have gotten edge calls. This competition was so leniently scored it's hard to take anything from it other than Alysa is very hard to beat in leniently judged competitions(and has a hard time making podium in strict ones), because she doesn't fall, which we already knew. The other thing we got from it was Mone has trouble with pressure, which we also knew from last year's Nats.

I agree, with strict panel she can forget about (especially) gold medal
Thank god, Kaori is still front runner for olympic gold, I think

People focusing purely on Alysa's jump technique need to open their eyes to her performance ability. At this competition, she really deserved the highest score on that component for both her programs. I do think Mone has the best LP, but she didn't skate cleanly, and she still skates a bit too studiously.

Alysa also has some of the better spins in the field - and the transition she's doing out of her 2A in the SP seems "simple" yet in reality is so difficult.

Alysa is a very good performer, although still a little juniorish, but that's just personal preference. Presentation is only one third of PCS . Her skating skills are not great compared to the Japanese, and her GOE are also grossly inflated. You might as well go back to 6.0 if there aren't going to be edge calls or URs called.
